terror. now the image is vulnerable and vain. today the pentagon released videos seized from the compound where al-qaeda's leader was killed. a side of bin laden he never wanted you to see. >> one of the new videos released by the u.s. government shows osama bin laden in a bare room huddled in front of a television set wrapped in a blanket. he clicks through an on screen menu and watches news about himself on the network. it's unclear when the video was shot, it appears to be from inside the pakistani compound where navy seals killed bin laden. intelligence officials now bin laden monitored the news, but before last weekend's raid, they didn't know he was able to still watch live television while in hiding. in the video bin laden feared his streak with gray. other clips show him rehearsing to tape an al-qaeda propaganda video. one of the videos is an outtake in which bin laden appears to make a mistake with his lines.

another is in front of a crude wrinkled sheet. a senior intelligence official says bin laden clearly controlled the terrorist network and its plots from inside the compound. and now we're getting a never before seen peek into his life. >> we never had a view of this. this is a tremendous opportunity for us. >> cia director released a statement saying the american people expected agents to hunt down bin laden after 9/11 and quote, we delivered. >> another new video was messaged to the american people that was never released. it was shot last fall and includes attacks against capitalism and calls for al- qaeda followers to rise up. the u.s. government decided to release the pictures without audio to prevent the terrorist group from using the videos. the last time bin laden was seen on video tape was in 2007. cbs news, new york. the tapes are part of the largest collection of terrorist materials ever seized. one man who lost his wife on 9/11 watched the newly released

video of bin laden while many of us see a unheroic terrorist leader, he sees a man plotting and scheming. >> reminds me of one of the villains in a james bond movie who is isolated and has all these tv screens around him. he is ultimately in control and everybody fears him. >> other material collected from the compound includes phone numbers and documents that have not been released. but the cia director says it confirms just how important it was to go after bin laden. a lot of pakistanis are upset about the raid that killed bin laden. but they are more upset with their own leaders then with the u.s. demonstrators are calling for top government officials to resign. they are asking how bin laden went undetected for so many years. just a 2 1/2 hour drive from the capital and how u.s. helicopters managed to fly in undetected. in the bay area tonight, three people are dead after a

dispute between roommates ended in gunfire. it happened on the home in venus drive shortly after noon. a fourth person was also shot but survived. what police believe may have happened. don. >> police don't yet have a motive. they can't yet explain what triggered the violence. but there are some hints, some suggestions that could be perhaps an estranged couple living under the same roof. could be perhaps court order under someone that lived at the house. >> fairfield police broke a window next to this open door to enter this home on the 5200 block of venus drive. >> once they were inside, it was then that they started checking the residents and upstairs they found the male and the female deceased. they found what we believe to be the shooter. the person responsible for the violence today with a life threatening injury. >> the critically wounded man

later died from an apparent self-inflicted wound. a resident provided this video. giving updates of the violence as it was underway. he was shot in the foot and treated at the hospital. this neighbor had left earlier to go to a baseball game at noon. >> all of a sudden we started getting texts saying something is going on in your neighborhood. we found out that the neighbor had been tased by the police and found out that there were two people who had been shot. >> police say an older neighbor man was tased because he interfered with officers as they rushed to the home in an effort to end the shooting and save lives if they could. this evening two bodies, a man and a woman, remain in the house as investigators continue their work. all those involved are believed to live in the house over an attached apartment in the garage. a court order was served at the house today. >> there was a civil order that was issued by a judge that was served on the people in the home today. what the nature of that order

is, i still don't know. i don't know if it was a conduct, don't harass this person kind of order or if there was something else related requiring someone to come into the home. >> police are not releasing names nor details at this point, but they believe they have all the people who are involved and now they have a search warrant. >> we can go in and search the residence for evidence and to piece together the sequence of events that led up to the violence today. >> crime scene investigators have been in the house ten hours now and they are still at it trying to determine what led to the violence, what led one man to shoot his roommates. >> quite a mystery. don knapp, thank you very much. and still no suspects tonight in the shooting that killed two men and injured a teenager in east san jose. it happened at a party at 5:00 this morning. it ended with an argument and two men shot dead. a 17-year-old boy was taken to a local hospital.

this is the 17th and 18th homicide of the year in san jose. police are investigating whether the shooting was gang related. work to stabilize a corrupt east bay hillside is being held up by a dispute. the san pablo landslide damaged seven homes during heavy rains in march. the repair plan would release the city for liability as well as damage the stabilization work causes. homeowners rejected that plan and submitted a modified version. the city says the homeowner's plan would put the city at financial and legal risk. other bay area headlines, a kickoff rally for senator leeland yee who is launching his campaign for san francisco mayor. immediately after this morning's rally, volunteers hit the streets to spread the word about his campaign. 36 candidates have filed papers to run for san francisco mayor next year. and oakland mayor is visiting china. the purpose to build business connections in parterships that would bring new investments to

the city. among the ideas, increasing trade volume and increase tax revenue and to develop direct air service between oakland and china to increase travel related jobs and tourism. no tax money will be used for the trip. the money is coming from the port of o.k. land's enterprise fund that promotes the port. and safeway workers pitched in to help rebuild a berkeley home for a couple with disabilities. the volunteers worked with skilled workers through a group called rebuilding together. a nonprofit that helps preserve affordable homeowner ship. the couple could stay in their home and remain self- sufficient. payday loans would be banned in san mateo county if one lawmaker gets his way. charge an average of 400% interest on a two-week loan. critics accused them of predatory lending. today daily city councilman says he will introduce

legislation to ban any additional stores and then pays out the ones that exist. >> today is the day where payday loan lenders in san san mateo county are through. we are not going to go to sleep until payday loans are eliminated. >> also cracking down on payday lenders. here's a question for you moms out there since tomorrow is mother's day. if you had to, would you rather move in with your son or your daughter? in a new survey. 70% of mothers say that they would rather live with their daughter if they could not take care of themselves. 68% believe their daughter would probably take better care of them. but 94% say they would rather live on their own in their own home as they age. and in home care provider called senior help conducted the poll. most moms will be enjoying brunch with their kids tomorrow

or getting flowers and phone calls. others will be reminded of a loss. that's why this mother's day weekend, military moms gathered in the south bay to find comfort in each other. some lost a child in war and others have sons and daughters deployed. ann shows one mom's priceless gift. [ applause ] >> this is the face of a mother who didn't think she would see her son's face this mother's day. >> they did a really good job because i had no idea what was going on. >> her son, specialist is stationed in a texas rehab clinic after part of his leg was blown off in iraq in 2009. >> the first thing that came to my mind was mom. what is my mom going to think? oh man. she is not going to be happy. >> she helped nurse him back to health in texas, but they haven't seen each other in months. >> mom, i definitely would not

be standing here if it wasn't for my mom. [ applause ] >> and he wouldn't be standing here if it wasn't arranged by grace. >> this has nothing to do with what you believe in the war or not. this is about doing something for these moms who live daily with the knowledge that their children are in harm's way. >> some of the moms here are gold star moms. moms who lost their kids at war. >> it's kind of hard because my son didn't get to come home. but i'm so happy for her. for all the moms that have their sons and daughters home. it's a blessing. >> it's clear these two have some catching up to do. >> that's why i avoided talking to you for a week or two. >> i called him, but he didn't respond. >> he thought he would let the cat out of the bag. >> mom, you support me in everything i do, and i'm a better man because of it. >> he is now headed back to texas for another six months

t the highest the mighty mississippi is threatening nearly every community in its path. the river is at the highest level its been since the 1920s. mike is in memphis where they are hoping the levees built after the floods 80 years ago will keep the river at bay. >> reporter: around memphis, they are building a buffer. filling sandbags, and getting to higher ground. the mississippi has become a menace. >> it is mind boggling. >> north of memphis, kathy showed us why her family is living in a camper. >> there's water for four miles. >> their home sits in ten feet of flood water. water that traveled four miles inland. >> what's next? i guess -- we've never had anything like this. we lost lots of crops to the water. we never lost a house. >> at the fair grounds, a dozen families live in campers.

they all lost a house. >> it's bad. >> but it could be much worse. after the great mississippi flood of 1927, the most destructive in u.s. history. engineers built an elaborate system of levees, reservoirs, and floodways. by one estimate from caro, illinois to the north. it affects 4 million people. >> money that we have invested in our levees on the mississippi river is paying off. >> but that system is being tested never before, by flood waters higher than existing records. one measure of the river surge is that icebox spinning round and round. it came from a now flooded racetrack and has been stuck in that same when i will pool for the last four days. the line berries know the feeling. this camper could be home for the next six months. >> there's nothing you can do about it. it's just stuff. it's just stuff. all four of us are here and we

are healthy and that's what matters. >> this wall of sandbags is one more way memphis is trying to help itself. it's now a race against the river and next wednesday the mississippi will crest at 48 feet. that's 14 feet above flood stage. mark, cbs news, memphis. after seeing that, lawrence, i'm not going to complain about tomorrow's forecast, okay? >> no. we would love it if it could be perfect for mom's day. it's going to be cool and breezy. we'll see clouds and there is a slight chance we could see a few showers. we have a weak cold front that is making its way through the bay area tonight. it is bringing lots of clouds across our skies. threatening for a while early on, haven't seen any measurable amounts of rain. here's your cold front sliding on by and making its way through the state and moving through the bay area. headed out of town, a will the of clouds in behind it. partly cloudy for mother's day. a slight chance of a few light showers. more likely we will see drizzle showing up. especially near the coastline and it's going to be cool and

breezy toward the afternoon. temperatures running in the 50s around the bay area. i think as we look around the state, you'll find some cool numbers for this time of year. 56 in sacramento. high country, it's a winter weather advisories up there. up 6500 feet. we could see another 1 to 2 inches of snow. all right, we're not done with the wet stuff just yet. can't get spring going. now it is back to cool weather again. that whole trough is along the west coast. that will keep temperatures cool again all around the bay area. so it's going to stick around with the cool temperatures, probably into monday as well and some breezy conditions to go along with that. as we head through the night tonight, a lot of clouds are going to make their way across the skies. we are looking for rain drops. see some of that developing off the coastline and then in the morning, a couple impulses start to slide on shore. bringing with it a slight chance of showers. leave that in the forecast if you are headed out for brunch

tomorrow morning. bring that umbrella with you and it's going to be cool outside. sunny breaks as we head towards the afternoon. the temperatures are going to stay down. plan on 50s coast side. breezy there. low 60s to the mid 60s. you have 50s and 60s just inside the bay. friends in the north bay expecting 50s. a lot of 60s showing up in many of the valleys and looking out over the next couple days, we will warm things up. again it is going to be on the breezy side. by tuesday, it looks like high pressure builds in. we may see a weak offshore wind. and that will probably hold through next wednesday and possibly thursday. but you know what next weekend? >> yes. >> you just wanted to hear this. we have more clouds coming in and a chance of rain again. we aren't done with the cold unsettled bad weather just yet. >> all right. thank you. >> you're welcome. there is relief in sight for pain at the pump.

experts believe the skyrocketing gas prices are finally screeching to a halt. in fact, they might even fall faster than they jumped. analysts expect prices to drop nearly 50 cents as early as next month just in time for the summer driving season. minor reason increased gas production and falling demand in the u.s. it's more than 100 years old. the running of the kentucky derby. next a look at the pomp and circumstance and some of the traditions go way back. ,, [ banker ] mike and brenda found a house that they really wanted. it was in my sister's neighborhood. i told you it was perfect for you guys. literally across the street from her sister.

new park opened today in richmond's notorious "iron triangle." the dr. martin a new park opened today in richmond's notorious iron triangle. the park was funded by nearly $3 million in public and private funding and credited for a long abandoned park. it features sports fields for football and soccer. a competitive track and new landscaping. >> frankly it was a place that detracted from the neighborhood. it didn't contribute to the
