caused massive gridl traffic on the golden gate bridge at a complete stand still tonight. the crash that caused massive gridlock stretching for miles. this is truly the city of angels. >> l.a. showering the family with kindness. the cheerful thank you. showers, a few thunderstorms around the bay area today. we're not done with this storm and there's already another one coming. we will talk about that coming up. people may not drink on the course but they can drink before and after. >> you can take the booze out of the breakers but you cannot stop the rule breakers. good evening. an accident on the golden gate bridge tonight briefly closed all lanes and backed up traffic in san francisco for miles. we are at the bridge where all lanes are now open. >> reporter: open and moving at

the speed limit but that traffic was quite a mess after that head on collision that involved four vehicles with one of those vehicles rolling over. we have these pictures. that tied up traffic for the better part of an hour as they tried to unravel that mess. the traffic is moving well now. amazingly with the turnover on the bridge, injuries were minor. one person was taken to the hospital and then another to season fran general. no major injuries that we know of. a lucky break for those drivers tonight and for the rest of us because traffic has cleared up pretty quickly. back to you. >> thank you. the family of the giants' fan beat be outside dodgers' stadium had praise and thanks. brian stone will be flown to a

san francisco hospital tomorrow to continue his treatment. we have more on his rehab. >> reporter: there were hugs, tears and gratitude. they say they leave los angeles with no ill feels. >> this is very bitter-sweet because we're taking brian home. the people of l.a. have been in our hearts during this six-week journey and your praise and support have guided us through. we have made lifelong friends. thank you doesn't say enough how much we appreciate you. you will never be forgotten. this is truly the city of angels. >> he was severely beaten while walking through the parking lot of dodger's stadium after the open day game. he's been at the medical center for six weeks for injuries to his brain. but doctors say he's now stable enough to go home to the bay area. >> he still remains in an

unconscious state. however, he has shown some slight signs of improvement, meaning that he will open his eyes enter mittn'tly and is able to move his extremities from time to time. >> reporter: his parents have kept vigilant by his hospital bed. >> they see the shirt and they say -- they ask about brian and they say they are praying. we appreciate that. >> reporter: the case has gotten nationwide attention. billboards show sketches of the two suspects. the reward for information is more than $100,000. his career will continue at sf general's neuro surgery unit. doctors are hopeful but no one knows how he will be a year from now. >> we have no illusions that it's not going to be a long rode to recovery. we're looking at over a year of

rehab. we're prepared. we're rapid to take that next -- we're prepared to take that next step with brian. >> they have not seen their father, his 12-year-old son says once his dad gets back to the bay area, he would like to visit him. at san francisco general hospital, cbs 5. night. polic a shooting in san francisco last night. police found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. witnesses say a fight broke out during a birthday party. two men died at the hospital. family members identified one of the dead men. his older brother was also shot in the arm. police are holding several men for questioning. san francisco police are asking for the public's health for finding a man who has been looting a bank account. they want to talk to him about

the death of a 74-year-old. the workweek is going to start off tomorrow with another late season storm. our meteorologist tells us what to expect. a lot of folks would like to see that sunshine and some warm weather. more scattered showers. guess what, we've more showers out there tonight. a pretty good band that's making its way onshore. look at this cell that's just moving on through. you've got more showers rotated in your direction. most just some widely scattered showers right now as the storm system really beginning to wind down. but we still have some pockets of rain. in the moments here, we've got some rain -- in the mountains here we've got some more rain. around stockton right now, part of southern sacramento valley. another storm is sitting right off the coastline. we're beginning to see those clouds right there. those are starting to move onshore and moving in a little

more rapidly than originally expected. so this storm system may make for a pretty wet day tomorrow and of course we've seen a ton of snow this year in nevada, we could see another 4 to 8 inches from this next storm. >> not happy with that. we will talk to you more later. president obama will get a firsthand look at flooding from the mississippi river when he travels to tennessee tomorrow. more flute gaze were open today -- flood gates were open today. it could flood thousands of rural homes. people are doing what they can to save their belongings and stay optimistic. >> this is a very poor community. it's my choice to live here and i have to deal with it. >> by tuesday, homes over a 3,000 square mile area will be flooded with levels up to 25 feet high. the head of the

international monetary fund and front runner in france's next presidential race is expected to be arraigned sexual assault charges. he's accused of forcing himself on a hotel maid in a luxury suite last night. he was pulled out of his first class seat and took him into custody. he denies the allegations and has agreed to an expansion to obtain evidence. a bay area man might be the first person in the world to be cured of aids. >> i quit taking my hiv medication on the day that i -- i haven't had to take any sense. doctors say he is cured. how is that possible. our exclusive report coming up. i think everyone is drinking. >> you are drinking? >> i am drinking, yes, i am.

the berlin patient. >> reporter: his name is timty ray brown. a 45-year-old man now living in the bay area who tested osteoperosis for hiv -- positive for hiv back in 1995. he's now entered the journals to be the first man to have the aids cured from his body. he was living in berlin germany in 2007 dealing with hiv and leukemia when scientists give him a stem cell transplant that had astounding results. >> i quit taking my medication on the day that i got to treatment and i haven't had to take any sense. >> it's amazing. >> yeah. the leukemia came back unfortunately about a year later, so i got another transplant from the same donor

in 2008 and, in february, and luckily both things have been absent. >> leukemia and aids. >> right. >> gone? >> right. >> cure? >> yeah. in fact, his only medical problem is one involving his speech and motor schools because of neurological damage after the treatment but that's getting better. how did this happen? the berlin patient received stem cells from a donor is immune to hiv. some say it goes back to the great plague. people who survived the plague developed an immunity and that was passed down to their heirs today. >> your doctors say that you- cured. >> yeah, they do. >> the medical journals. >> they do as well.

>> cured? >> right. >> am i looking at the first man in world history to be cured of hiv. >> i think so. >> what do you think about that? >> it makes me very happy, very happy. >> reporter: needless to say, he's being monitored where we sought out a medical opinion from one of the most respected researchers in the world. >> if you're able to take the white cells from someone and in a nip late them so they are no longer in effectible by hiv and they become the whole immune system you've got essentially what we call a functional cure. >> we also sought out another medical opinion from another expert who has studied its

disease. >> it's not one that can be generalized. you don't want to go out and get a bone marrow transplant because the procedures themselves carry a risk of plow at that time. one -- mortality. one of the treatments allowed the virus to be purged from his body. >> they say he's cured. >> knock on wood. he hasn't had any recurrence of the virus and that hasn't happened before in our experience. >> never happened? >> never. >> reporter: his radical procedure may not be applicable to many other people with hiv because of the difficulty in doing stem cell transplants and finding the right donor, but this one case does open the door to the area of cure research. here at the aids foundation they are now using the word

"cure" after so many avoided it. you felt like you couldn't say it. >> people living with hiv felt like that was sort of a promise that was never going to be realized and it was dangerous to direct a lot of energy toward it. >> now? >> now things have shifted. >> shifted toward the hope that the berlin patient brings the all of us. >> i'm cured of hiv. i had hiv but i don't anymore. >> words that so many in the scientific community are incautiously clinging to. they are trying to replicate his case. now, the goal is to be clinical trials next year. we will be presenting more

stories about aids as we aapproach the 30th anniversary of the disease. it will begin on memorial day, monday may 30th. representative gabrielle giffords is in florida tonight to watch tomorrow's scheduled shuttle launch. she saw her husband and said goodbye to him today. nasa scrubbed last month's launch because of storms and electrical problems. there's just a 30% chance of a weather delay for tomorrow's liftoff set for 5:56 a.m. our time. this will be the last please flight and the second to last for nasa. a spring snowstorm is part -- organizers have abruptly cancelled the first stage of the race, the first time in the event's history. they hope to start tomorrow. thanks, lawrence we would just like a dry commute.

>> i was going to say in just about a little over a month, it's going to be summer. hey, we have some beautiful pictures. look at the blue skies. we're going to see more problems as we head into tomorrow. we're not going to get much of a break. tonight we're continuing to see some scattered showers around the bay area, part of north bay, just some pockets of rainfall showing up out there. you can see some cells making their way on through. watch out, your likely to run into a couple of raindrops. half moon bay, scattered light showers. a couple more off the coastline. it looks like things will stay a little bit unsettled throughout the night tonight. no major rainfall but a chance of a few more showers in the forecasts. well, the storm system is approaching the coastline. they brought lots of snow in

nevada. this next one will also bring some more snow in the high country. 40s and 50s right now. you've got some partly cloudy skies and a few showers, kind of a break as we get ready for the next system. under some wet weather everywhere you go in the northern half as we are going the see that next system begin to push on through a little bit earlier now. you plan on heading to the high country. don't plan on some spring conditions up there. plan on winter-like conditions. warnings up. they will go up tomorrow again. snow still likely into tuesday. maybe some left over mixture as we head into the next couple of days. here's your area of low pressure bringing that cold air. another one on the backside latched on to some of this moisture. that will bring some rain into

the bay area. a few leftover showers for tonight. overnight tonight we're going to watch those clouds continue to move into our skies. that rain will be moving onshore. here's the very latest computer model. not much. another band makes its way on the shore tomorrow morning. not a washout for the commute but maybe a couple of light showers. watch it happen as we head through the day. this system moves on about three hours faster. it looks like it will be pretty wet. temperatures will be in the 50s and a couple of 60s. the next couple of days, there is a glimmer of spring out there but you have to wait until the middle of the week. chance of showers likely to continue into tuesday morning at least. then partly cloudy and dry as we head into wednesday. thursday and friday look pretty good. there is a interpret when that next -- a hint that next weekend there is at least a chance of a few showers.

off the roof of a house. a man celebrating beta breakers nearly died after falling off the roof of a house. they say the 30-year-old fell during a house party. paramedics rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. relief for the family of this teen that went missing, san francisco police searched for her after she was separated from her friend and they found her safe tonight. police did arrest more people than last year.

preliminary statistics show 17 people were arrested for public intoxication, three for assault and two for burglary. it was mostly good news along the course today. how the city's tough new rules played out. 30 seconds to go. it's the 100th beta breakers in san francisco. despite some new rules, after complaints from neighbors from the 7 1/2 mile route, they say this year no alcohol is allowed. >> you think everyone is -- are you sober? that's unfortunate. >> the cops were ready to bust people being not so good. >> i've had my beer taken away
