celebration of love and happiness and acceptance of yourself. >> a parade energized by a law passed thousands of miles away. the excitement and unity felt throughout the pay area today. the number of people unaccounted for in last week's collision involving an amtrak train is lowered and enough information about the -- new information about the past of the company. the minot river in north dakota slowly recede. how people are trying to move on after losing their homes. good evening, i'm ann notarangelo. organizers estimate more than 1 million people gathered in san francisco today for the city's pride celebration. today's parade was the centerpiece of it all. anne makovec shows us the excitement along the route. >> reporter: and with the revving of engines from the dikes on bikes, the 41st san francisco pride parade was off

and running and stamping and dragging its way down market street. >> it's a celebration of love and happiness and acceptance of yourself and acceptance of the community and the whole world. >> reporter: in attendance? people of all colors of the rainbow including enthusiastic politician, law enforcement -- a lot of children. >> it's fantastic. >> reporter: and straight supporters. >> we have a lot of people in our family are gay and to support them. >> reporter: one of the grand marshals? chaz bono. >> it's huge for me, this is like san francisco pride and it seems like it's the city where everything gay and lesbian and bisexual begins. so it's good to be here. >> reporter: because people being here can make an impact nationwide. >> it's really important that we have visibility like this because this is what the youth sees from across the country

when they're in places. >> reporter: organizers say the parade is paramount even though it costs millions from planning to law enforcement to clean-up. >> they don't have the final numbers in just yet, but with the turnout like this, organizers are hoping they'll be closer to being back in the black. >> reporter: but today, it's all about bubbles, baubles and being yourself. >> we're celebrating the diversity of the city and everybody knows they can belong here in san francisco. that's what i'm proud to be a mayor of. >> it's a beautiful day, a good crowd. couldn't ask for anything more. >> in san francisco, anne makovec, cbs5 news. >> and new yorkers had extra reason to celebrate today at the gay pride parade. governor andrew cuomo signed a bill into law friday night legalizing same sex marriage. people danced all day in the streets and party goers in every color of the rainbow. >> just amazing to see

everybody come together and all the love and everything that everything brings to the table. all you see is happiness. >> many are now considering getting married, something they say they never thought would be possible. the weddings can begin july 30th. in chicago, even flat tires couldn't let the air out of the city's pride parade. someone punctured tires on parade floats in a warehouse before the parade. the owner said more than 100 tires on 50 floats were damaged. organizers scrambled to repair? possible in time for today's -- as many as to believe in time for today's parade. five of the passengers on board remain unaccounted for tonight as the investigation continues into the cause of the fiery truck and train crash. six people were killed including the conductor who once loved in concord. don knapp reports we're learning more about the truck and driver. don? >> reporter: that's right, they have begun to focus on the heavy big rig and the driver as

they look for the cause of the accident. the associated press is reporting they have the history of safety issues. the big rig driver whose truck skidded more than 300 feet and slammed into a amtrak train worked for a company with a history of safety violations according to records reviewed by the associated press. >> the team is still working obama the vehicle and that was part of -- on the vehicle and that was part of the -- the tires and brakes are the focus. >> reporter: the ap says john davis trucking company has been cited repeatedly by state authorities for crashes and operating a truck with tires so bald it had to be taken off the road. the crash was 70 miles east of reno. in january, the rig was deemed an imminent hazard to public

safety. ntsb investigators will be selecting the background of the driver who was killed in the crash. >> the human performance team will take a close look at the driver, his history. develop a 72 hour history, look for fatigue issues. >> reporter: meanwhile, county coroner workers continue to sift through rubble two badly burned passenger rail cars. forensic anthropologist was expected to join the team today and tomorrow. conductor laurette lee lived in concord a few years ago. >> hit trucks and hit people. >> reporter: in 47 years as a conductor, walker has seen a lot. but he wasn't on board on friday when his train was struck by the rig big. he was on week's vacation. >> it's a strange feeling because there's a feeling of relief that you're not there. and there's also a strange feeling that somehow i should have been there. >> reporter: the woman was killed who filled in for him.

>> i worked with the conductor that was killed for -- off and on for 20 years and it's -- you know, it's really mixed emotions in that regard. >> reporter: the search for more victims in the burned cars is expected to resume tomorrow. the davis trucking company didn't respond immediately to the a. p.'s request for comment. ann? well, a second person has died from her juries after a -- injuries after a car slammed into a south bay nursing home. 100-year-old suzanne infante and ester buckneg ra were killed yesterday. police say the 90-year-old drier hit the gas instead -- driver hit the gas instead of the brake. the car careened into the amberwood home at san jose. the driver won't face charges police say. the controversy surrounding a college football player arrest because of his saggy pants more than a week ago is still being talked about this weekend. people spoke out at an naacp

the main obstacle whether to increase tax revenue. democrats want an approach that makes some spending cuts but also end tax breaks. republicans say any increased tax burden will further slow economic recovery. next february, that's when the first votes are cast in the no, ma'am nomination race for the 2012 presidential election. a new poll in iowa shows tea party favorite michele bachmann at least a strong con fender for now. >> reporter: the race for the republican presidential nomination is heating up. minnesota congresswoman michele bachmann is a top choice in 2012. former massachusetts governor mitt romney has the support of 23 president of likely caucus goers, but she has 22%. >> concerns what we were hearing on the ground. we're gratified and we know it's still a long road ahead.

>> reporter: materially polls -- early polls generate excitement. but mitt romney led the poll in 2007, but lower ranked mike huckabee actually won the iowa caucuses. at this point in a crowded race, some in the gop are hesitant to jump on any bandwagon. >> i like all of the candidates. but i'm going to keep an open mind. >> reporter: bachmann will wide ride the momentum into monday and she's making the economy her top issue. >> we're on the wrong back. my focus will be on turning the economy around and job creation. >> reporter: she's formally declaring her candidacy in waterloo, iowa where she was born. she says her native ties give her an advantage with socially con serbtive voters who are expected the play a big role in the caucuses there next year. susan mcginnis for cbs news, new york. erika martin with the forecast which includes a little bit of everything. >> that's right.

we have a lot going on this week as we take a look outside, we can't see much. it is dark, but conditions out there, we're going to start the see the increasing clouds making their way into the region. as an upper level low works its way in. here's a really good look at what we've got going on. dipping usuallily low for the time of the year and we're starting the showers just popping up here indicative of the light showers just moving on in. by monday, late monday into tuesday and lingering possibly into wednesday. the true view forecast, starting the see thunderstorms as well along the ocean and that's because we do have a lot of instability. we've got the lift and that has are the ennuyed -- those are the ingredients we need in order to produce the thunderstorms. so again the chances of thunderstorms increasing quite a bit as we see all that moisture make its way in. for tonight, temperatures still lingering below average. we've got 46 for santa rosa. concord, 55 degrees. so a bit below average. so you know, you definitely want to maybe grab a jacket when you head out today and no

need for the umbrella. for tomorrow. i decreased the temperatures just a bit and that's because the low is pushing in a comfortable. temperatures are going to -- cold front. temperatures are going to cool down more than anticipated. mostly sunny inland and patchy fog and partly cloudy skies for the bay. some fog and clouds and gusty conditions along the coast. thanks to that low working its way in as we take a look at the pencil here. the daly city and pacifica, 0s. mill peta. 79 degrees. richmond, 68 and brentwood 84 and we're seeing quite a difference there. but temperatures again trending below average. napa, 82. fairfield 83. 79 your expected high. as we take a look at the extended forecast. lot to talk about here. i was definitely waiting to get to this. we've got the thunderstorms possible by tuesday into wednesday. we potentially had them on wednesday. i bumped them up to tuesday.

a bit sooner than i initially anticipated. by wednesday we're going to see it clearing out wednesday night into thursday. finally warmer temperatures by thursday. into friday. i bumpus up quite a bit there for the highs on friday, saturday and sunday and sunday i left us at 98 degrees. however, i think we may actually hit 100, 101. >> oh wow. so a long weekend. long hot weekend. >> long hot holiday eastbound. >> all right. thank you erica. watt earl levels on the american river are dangerously hi and rescue crews have made a record never saves in the past few weeks. angel cardenas with a new program. >> very strong currents, our cold water and people get in trouble. >> reporter: in the past two weeks, 60 people have been rescued from the american river from dangerous waters. a number that metro fire usually doesn't see the entire season. >> it's twice what it normally

is at this time of year and the water temperatures -- it's warm outside, but the water is 53- degrees and that's what causes you know, probables when you have -- problems when you have the current and the cold water together. >> reporter: operation river safe is a new program that patrols water looking for rafters and swimmers with inadequate safety equipment. >> there's definitely alcohol involve. people out here without like jackets and riding a blow up toy. >> reporter: every year they provide free life jackets out here, but yesterday, ten boxes were full of life jackets as park rangers made sure people put these on before they hit the water. after closing american river raft rentals for one week, owner dave hill said levels today are safe in his rafts. >> our boats especially designed for commercial rafting. they have multiple air chambers and fabric and nylon

they say the picture a worth 1,000 words? apparently also $2.3 million. that's the price paid at a colorado auction by a billionaire william cotch. drivers are finally able to keep a little bit more money in their pockets. gas prices have dropped about 11 cents in the past two weeks. that's according to the survey of fuel prices. the national average for a gallon of regular is $3.58. but as usual it's higher here in the bay area, the average price in oakland is $3.82, in san francisco, it is highest in the state at $3.93. for all drivers, hybrid owners may soon spend more time on their commutes. the yellow stickers that let them drive solo in the carpool lane? they're about to expire july 1st marks the end of the road for the popular highway perk.

the sticker removal party was held today. berkeley celebrated california isolateddest juneteentt festival today. it has become a day not only to mark the end of slavery but also to celebrate african- american culture. >> it is an opportunity for people to get together and just like black repertory groups, provide an opportunity for people to actually enjoy the culture of america's rich black culture heritage. >> this is berkeley's 24th festival. the actual date is june 19th. but the date of the celebration varies around the bay area. madison bumgarner couldn't do any worse than the last start, right? i'm dennis, bad blood and revenge dominate the nascar race at infineon.

numerous bumps, spin outs, and even some re nascar returned to sonoma this weekend and the road course didn't disappoint with numerous bumps, spinouts and even some revenge. bill, start the clock please. he gets rear ended by brian vickers who stewart earlier bumped into a barriers. this is payback and the number on the 14 car, yakking it up on the rear end on the wall and he finished in 39th. kurt kurt burn dominated the race. tuesday, madison bumgarner
