following the game between the 49ers and the raiders goes far beyond a simple rivalry. i'm an note a rang low. a serious fight, two shootings, the violence following the game between the 49ers and the raiders go far beyond a simple rivalry. a bloody battle off the football field at candlestick park, one man shot, another severely beaten, both are in serious condition. >> oh my god. >> stop pulling hair. >> there were numerous fights both during and after last night's game. this one among a group of women happened in a parking lot. linda yee on everything that went down. >> reporter: there were a number of fist fights in the stands, a cbs camera caught at least three of them. in some cases, it's hard to tell who is fighting whom. these pictures posted by a fan on youtube show two men in red and white, maybe niner fans, punching each other. while a fan in black and white,

possibly a raider fan, trying to break up the fight. but, after the game, it got uglier. two fans were shot, one remains in serious condition. a man wearing a t-shirt with an obscenity directed at the 49ers was shot several times in the stomach but managed to drive his truck to find stadium security. another suffered superficial face injuries. a san rafael man was knocked unconscious and remains in serious condition. jim harbaugh, who was once a raiders coach, says violence at sporting events is sad. >> i was saddened by that. biel bad for those people who were injured. >> people who work in the area say drunken brawls are not uncommon at some games. >> our crowd tends to be a well- behaved crowd, just when they

have biggar much rivals that they party a little bit more than normal. i did see 'em, you know, on the tipsy side. >> reporter: police say officer presence is increased for games with intense rivalries. like the 49er/raiders game. the violence comes just a few months after giants fan bryan stow was severely beaten after opening day game outside dodger stadium. prior to last night's game there was a friendly wager between the mayors of san francisco and oakland. today they issued a joint statement saying violence will not be tolerated. fans come to our stadiums to enjoy an afternoon of football, not to be subjected to intimidation or violence. police say they have identified a person of interest in one of the shootings but they also need the public's help, any witnesses who saw the shootings is asked to fome forward. at candlestick park, linda yee, cbs 5. >> the beating suspect is described as a samoan pacific

time we entered the parking lot. >> reporter: he says the combo of rivalry and the low guys particulars of candlestick took a toll. >> you put that much pressure on people, you know, just getting into the stadium, it's not like the coliseum where you go in, binge bang you're done. >> reporter: then you add alcohol. >> you show up at a game 4 or 5 hours early, drinking alcohol, go inside the stadium and have 4 or 5 more beer that contributes to these fights. >> it was kiss discouraging to see fights happening around you constantly. >> constantly. >> at the end was more than the beginning. >> reporter: his sister took her 12-year-old son. >> i think it's just an eye opener to the decisions other people make and i think when people are having a great time it's fun to see. unfortunately i think some people make some bad decisions and that's part of life. >> reporter: in the east bay, anne mackovic, cbs5. >> if you want to see more of

what went on inside and outside the stadium we have posted the video on our web site cbssf.com. demonstrators are threatening another protest at b.a.r.t. this email evening, they shut three stations during rush hour. they say they'll do whatever it takes to prevent problems. >> reporter: protestors didn't need cell phones to shut down four b.a.r.t. stations last monday. b.a.r.t. shut them down one at a time as marchers moved down. now on the eve of another planned protest b.a.r.t. is telling riders it may close them. >> i got to go far out of my way and i only have a certain amount of battery in this machine and this is putting me to a great disadvantage. take your protests across the bay, preferably to arizona. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. strategy of shutting down cell service has ricocheted and produced a national outcry. >> i've gotten over 9,000

emails from people all across the nation, how dare you cut off our right to speech. >> this weekend b.a.r.t. is explaining itself in an open letter to riders saying intelligence showed that individuals had been giving and receiving instructions to correspondent their activities via cell phone. the interruption did prevent the planned coordination of activity on the platforms and the resulting threat to public safety. reactions were mixed. >> i think it wreaks of what happened in saudi, where institutions funded by the people bo turn off cell phones. >> my opinion is it was common sense, i think they had to do that in order to not have the public safety problems as far as the riding on the trains and what it really gets down to is public safety. >> reporter: the letter comes days before they hold a public meeting to discuss the cell phone issues. >> cell phones can detonate a bomb. there's going to be scenarios when the public is going to be

at risk because of a communication device that we consider our first amendment right. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. president bob franklin said it's highly unlikely they'll shut down cell service in the future unless it is what he calls an extreme case. another big story we're following, libyan rebels have taken the capital city of tripoli and captured two sons of muammar gaddafi. the u.s. has recognized the rebel forces and the legitimate government in libya. drew levinson on what is next for libya. >> reporter: celebrations are being held in cities across libya. rebels now control much of tripoli. muammar gaddafi's strong hold for more than ho years. but, now, the dictator's whereabouts are unknown, causing thousands to cheer in the streets, in a statement, president barack obama said "the people of libya are showing that the universal pursuit of liberty and freedom

is far stronger than the iron fist of a dictator." the rebel's surprising 1-day advance into the capital comes after 6 months have a locked civil ward. they met little resistance, some government forceses reportedly fled, show even shedding their uniforms. >> they are running like rats so we're doing good. >> they grabbed gaddafi's two sons. just an hour before one told supporters he would never surrender. libyan state news andre iguodala says they want them to set up a commission. they accuses nato of violating un resolution including killing innocent civilians. nato, which has provided air support to the ribs, said it has protected libyan state sense and will continue to do so. nato says it is ready to work with the rebels to ensure a peaceful and immediate transition to power. but a libyan government

her iowa tea party event scheduled for september 3rd has already been moved to a larger venue. whitt johnson, cbs news, washington. this is a tough day. you can't be intimidated, you can't be frightened, as far as i'm concerned, the tea party can go straight to hell. [ cheering and applause ] >> reporter: and this is california congresswoman maxine waters at englewood high school today talking about the economy, she spoke to a group of 2,000 people at the kitchen table summit. she encouraged people to let the president know they are behind him and not to give in to the tea party to solve the country's ills. many shared stories about being laid off and urged waters and other members of congress to find ways to put people back to work. we are on the verge of seeing the first hurricane of the season, tropical storm irene has winds of 50 miles per hour, meteorologist david bernard shoals us where it is heading. >> it's going to move across puerto rico tonight, then the

question becomes, how much of the anyone can republican and haiti does this storm travel over? that could weaken it significantly. if it doesn't move over those countries, we could be looking at a much stronger hurricane, approaching south florida, by the -- time we get into thursday. >> good evening to you. >> ann-marie: , no hurricanes to worry about here in the bay area, we have seen cool conditions all we go end long, cloudy skies as well. it has been uncharacteristic particularly cool this summer, starting to see some clouds build out there, little bit of patchy fog as well. for tomorrow though we're going to warm up nicely. temperatures making their way into the low 90s, pretty close to where we should be, in those inland spots, plenty of sunshine, cloud cover in the morning, making way to sunny conditions, at the coastline be temperatures there in the 60s, while we'll have a foggy and

cloudy start mostly sunny by the afternoon, shaping up to be a pretty nice start to your workweek. we see a dense fog section, and see those clouds mix out a little bit earlier in the mortgage. while these clouds are purke in overnight we'll start to see clearing earlier and more sunshine earlier. this low is going to sag to the southwest. this area over texas, oklahoma, that's going to make its way bumping those temperatures up a few degrees and breaking us into those 90s, also seen plenty of 90s in the california area, 91 for yosemite, 96 for redding, eureka, making it to 62, they'll have a drizzly start just like we saw this weekend, 91 for eureka, and 95 there. we'll see sun see skies. highs in the bay area, 84 milpitas, 77 in union city. also hitting 77, 73 in mateo, cooler half moon bay, daly city at 60, you see temperatures pretty similar to what we saw for highs this afternoon, 90

the high in brentwood, 70 in oakland, 64 for richmond, 81 for pittsburgh. up into north bay we go, 84 will be the high for fairfield. a little bit cooler, 80, 67 for symptom happen on the beach. the city and salsalito will come in one degree cooler, starting to warm up for your monday, on tuesday we start to see the high pressure build in. look at this number jumping from the high 80s into the mid- 90s in the warmest locations, actually going to get slightly above average where we are this time of year. quick change of plans, wednesday we get to see those temperatures drop back down, actually only into the middle 0s, clouds back into the picture, cooling thursday, friday, into saturday. pleasant weather, but temperatures even then only going to be in the high 80ings, then as we talked about as kids are getting back to school they are seeing that weather that feels more like summer, a few of them are feeling they didn't get a lot of swimming pool
