leg. >> changes are now in place for people being searched going into candlestick park. good evening, investigators were out there searching today. friends and families are looking for missing nursing students. they found a body there yesterday. and on why the area might be connected to the missing woman. >> search crews scour the grounds near a place where the body was found yesterday. and while dna and the dental records would help provide the identity, they will search for clues that may tell them what has happenedded here. and they might help with the prosecution. the body was found by the volunteers looking for the 26- year-old nursing student. and in a place where her cell phone signals were tracked, along with the cell phone signal of the woman accused of killing her. >> the former san diego high school friend was arrested on september 7 in connection with michelle lee's murder. although police did not yet have a body to confirm the deaths. and the discovery of the body

here in this rugged off road area, near the castle wood country club, it comes after numerous searches involving police and volunteers and family members, and members of the class kids foundation. >> they did find a couple of items today. they are not sure if they are relevant to this body that was found, but that is very typical for these situations, you collect a lot of things and then you figure out what it means later on. >> reporter: the decomposed body was found yesterday. they made it difficult to determine if it was indeed the girl that returned in may. and he was arrested after sur -- she was arrested after the hospital garage where lei parked her car, showing her there and before after. and her blood and shoes lead to her arrest. >> and tomorrow, the pathologist will make a determination on gender and the real nuts and bolts of trying to find out who this person is

will begin. >> reporter: perhaps michelle lei's family will get the answers and the closures they have been seeking since she disappeared on may 27. i'm don knapp,cbs5. nine people were killed in the reno air race. several remain in critical condition. three days later drivers are starting to share their horrific stories. how one man barely escaped with his life. >> reporter: they may have found critical evidence into what caused the crash in reno, nevada. the world war ii era plane was equipped with a camera and pieces of it had been located in the wreckage. the plane smashed into a v.i.p. section where ed larson was standing 20 feet over the crash site. >> it was coming right at us. >> he took off running. flying debris woke him up, waking up in a helicopter that had moments before been on display at the air race.

>> evidently i was hit on the back of the head by something. >> reporter: and rescue crews rushed more than 60 victims to local hospitals. doctors are still treating patients with critical injuries like head wounds and amputated limbs. he was working security the day of the crash, and went back on saturday to help the national transportation safety board map the debris field. >> you could see everything, how it was scattered. and most importantly for me, there was a pile of belts, apparently a military person had gone through the stands, collecting belts from people for using -- from people for use. >> reporter: instruments on the ghost did send data to the racing team below. >> these could be critical for us to perform analysis that would allow us to examine the certain structure or medical -- structural or medical issues. >> reporter: that will be examined by experts in

washington, d.c. >> and we're hearing from the first emergency calls that were made after the crash. >> a plane down at the air race into the stands. i don't know how many at this time. >> yes. and where that is for the sack. >> they were just a few of the calls, certainly after the crash as the rescue crews were arriving on scene. and now to a chilling story from a survivor. the 25-year-old was in the plane's path as it devastate into the crowd of fans. >> i'm right in there and i kept running out. i was like right here where they hit. this is a very violent pull up. and you know, you need to go past it. they have rolled it over here. and they will start running. >> and at that point, do you close your eyes.

you really think that you're going to die. >> when i set my eyes, i seriously thought i was dying. like okay, there's no way i'm going to survive here. i open up my eyes and i'm like, okay, well, you know, i think that i'm going to make it, but it might hurt very bad. >> and they had a massive wound in his back. a stranger stayed with him for over an hour until he was taken to the hospital. and the man also helped him call his mother. the io denties of the eight -- the identities of the spectators killed are starting to be released. he was attending the show for the first time. and 22-year-old michael logan was from scotts dale, arizona -- scottsdale, arizona. he was sitting with his father in a wheelchair in the v.i.p. section. his father was seriously injured. george wendy was a former air pilot, owning a small post world war ii plane.

fires destroy a number of shuttle buses in a san francisco parking lot. it all started when a driver noticed something wrong while driving one and brought it back to the san francisco yard. and a short time later, the engine caught fire. the fire spread to the other buses, parked near it. and fortunately no one was hurt. new security measures are going into place beginning today at the nfl stadiums across the country. it comes in the wake of the series of violent incidents including someone shocking people with a taser. and they will get reactions from candlestick park. >> man down, you know, just a thing of the gang. >> reporter: and now there is more of it at candlestick park. the nfl recommended the fans be searched from the ankles out here. in addition to the waist up, the pat downs previously in place. >> it feels a little weird because, you know, again, they will be touching my legs here and it will be weird. >> and probably offend some people. >> reporter: they are looking for alcohol and weapons here, that's for the man arrested

last week for using the illegal stun gun on other fans at the cowboys jets game in new jersey last sunday. and they have gone through their own crackdowns recently, since two people were shot in the parking lot after the 49ers and the the raiders game in august. and another man was beaten unconscious in a restroom with several brawls caught on video in the stands. >> the safety is the first priority in any kind of venue. they now stopped tailgating about 15 minutes before the game starts. and there are extra officers on patrol and dui check points, as they will be leaving the park. the patdowns are the final set for entering the park. >> i would rather have them than somebody sitting next to me with a knife or a bottle of gin. >> that's a good thing. you want to go in there and have great fun. >> reporter: the extra pat downs will take a little longer. if you are coming out here, make sure that you leave early and prepare to wait. at candlestick park, cbs5 news.

we have breaking news, just getting word into the cbs5 newsroom that the suspect that left a woman dead and a man injured was arrested tonight. and he was taken into custody in west sacramento at about 7:30. right now, he'sing be taken to the san jose police department. and that will be on friday when police, they say that he tried to rob a man at the gas station. and then shot them. then he would say they carjacked and kidnapped the 50- year-old. and her body was found yesterday at the home where he has been hiding. a ceremony on tuesday to fill the crater that was left behind in the pipeline blast a year ago. and the residents will be among those with shovels to help fill it in. and they will do the rest. the crater was left open, all this time. and to allow investigators to come through it. paving work out here, and that will begin about three weeks. eight people were killed back in september and 38 homes were destroyed. the deadly earthquake in india and the sidewalk was

hitting the buildings. and we caught the rural areas that need to be cut off for more urban areas. >> we need to take a little bit more out of this. >> and that is the statement from warren buffet that ignited a fire in president obama's attack plan and why republicans are slamming them. some of the best weather of the summer season across the bay area today. clear skies, warmer temperatures. it looks like it's going to continue for a while as well. we'll take a look and just how long it is coming up in my complete forecast.

today. the 6.9 quake was felt as far away as the capital area. and at least 19 people are confirmed dead, but that number is expected to rise. mud slides triggered by the quake have blocked roads, making it difficult for rescue crews to reach remote areas. they have been too intense as well. and one with a magnitude of 6.1. and it is already being called the buffet rule. tomorrow, president obama unveiled a new plan to cult the nation's deficit. it is expected to include a minimum of the tax rates for the millionaires and the billionaires. and now, they are showing us that republicans, they are already determined to fight it. >> and president obama, the latest deficit reduction plan, they will include a new tax on the americans that are earning more than $1 million a year. the so-called buffet rule is a warning saying it's a higher tax rate than what they do. >> they need to take a little more. >> after a slew of credits and

deductions, people in warren buffet's income tax could pay as little as 15% in taxes. while most of them are paying an average of 25%. and the white house is aiming to change that. and details have yet to be released. but the republicans, they are already calling it a political proximate cause. and the class war fair may make for good politics. but it will be making for rocking the economics. >> reporter: maintaining their position at spending cuts, not revenues, they are the best way to reduce the deficit. >> it is a very simple equation. the tax increases, they destroy jobs. >> most high-income earners would notice the new tax f the and the bipartisan policy center. >> and you are probably right. about 450,000 people. and so you know, you're talk about a tiny permittage of taxpayers in the country. so then how does that help the deficit reduction? >> it doesn't. not directly. as much as people would hope it does. >> reporter: but they are pointing out that passage of the millions tax could give them leverage in the tax

debate, getting them to budge on tax increases that might make them more open to tackling entitlement programs. and today on face the nation, the former president said that it would take all of the above. >> we're never going to balance the budget again if we did when i was president and without a combination of three things. spending restraint, new revenues, and more economic growth. >> reporter: president obama will announce details of the buffet rule on monday, in addition to how he plans to pay for his new job's bill and further reduce the deficit. whit johnson, cbs news, the white house. this place in eastern dublin is expected to become a home to a high-end shopping mall. they bought 14 acres of land here. the price, $13 million. and so the plan is 165,000 square foot retail areas. they are taking steps to accommodate the development.

>> that's pretty, huh? spectacular kites, filling up the air above the marina and the green this weekend. and hundreds of pros and amateurs took the center airborne at the family day kite festival. the event included contact for kite making and flying. by the way, some of these professional kites, they cost more than $10,000. maybe that was one of those who they were looking at. all right a beautiful weekend coming to an end. what does the week ahead look like? we'll pass it over. 10 to 15 degrees warmer down here in the mid to upper 70s down there today. and that will be throughout the city. a few degrees warmer. out across the east bay as they will be hitting the valleys. we'll see the clear skies today as we take a glance. and that's the headlines for the week ahead. it looks like a light on shore flow to continue. and just very patchy fog at the coast. now, they will have an alert day for tomorrow as temperatures are warming up

slightly, and then we will continue to warm it on throughout the week with the official beginning of fall on friday. and finally, it's our summer fog season that has finally peaked down, where we see the significant change in our weather pattern, a little more mixing in the atmosphere out there. temperatures are warming up quite a bit into the mid to low 90s for the warmer locations. back to the water, we saw the mid to upper 80s in the east bay, the upper 70s on the peninsula, down into the upper 80s in the south bay. a very warm area, you'll be adding that tomorrow, most of those temperatures for tomorrow, as we are mostly clear this evening, a little balmy out there in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. winds are light and variable and so far it's pretty good, but they will become moderate through the debate tomorrow. we do have an alert up here as they have began. slightly warmer temperatures that are expected now. we're underneath the influence of the high pressure system. getting an offshore breeze, associated with that, it's very light. but basically a staggering weather pattern, so they will probably suffer through about

midweek before we will see a little mixing once again, which means that the low clouds and fog will be back tomorrow. and that is touch and go and then out of here as we look for mostly sunny skies through the day and the temperatures, a bit warmer than we were today. putting us in the low 80s. and mid to upper 90s on the peninsula. looking for the low 70s out there for tomorrow. in the east bay, that means mid to low 90s for most locations. you could see that out here, but basically we'll stay out of the triple digit readings. just a nice little warm up through the midweek. and we'll see more of the 90s tomorrow, even back out here in this area where we will be looking at low 80s right from the city. the low 80s for tomorrow. that's toasty by any standards. as you take a look at this, through the rest of your week though. they will be changing into next weekend. and that is the tropical typhoon atmosphere out in the western pacifics. and moving into the area, bringing with it, a lot of clouds and moisture and cooler

"drive," rounded out the top three. and cbs had a good night at the emmys. >> and the emmy goes to juliana for "good wife." >> she took the best actress for her role in "the good wife." and the winner in the best actress was a surprise, taking the best actress for "friday night lights." the actress in a comedy went to "jim parsons." madmen once again took the top drama prize and modern family

took best comedies. >> and well he was told that he may never run again. let alone play world cup soccer in brazil. that's the story of the man that refuses to give up. >> nearly two years ago, they would have never played soccer again. and that they have no idea right now from getting back to the field. they need to be going forward on the u.s. soccer team, hoerfully injured near this place that killed another passenger. and that they were fractured in three places. the eye socket was shattered. his bladder was lacerated and his nose was broken. just are several days, they woke up in the hospital, unsure where they were. and what happened. >> they are starting out here. >> now, when his doctor upset the condition, the outlook was bleak.
