eric challenger, rick perry. how perry responded. >> there's a noise like that and i didn't know what it was. >> it turns out it was gunfire outside a party advertised on the internet. three people are dead. and a warning, if you plan on traveling anywhere, be alert. the threat facing americans all over the world. good evening, i'm ann notarangelo. it's a name that's causing quite a stir. the only republican african american presidential candidate is reacting to reports that the fellow candidate, rick perry released a hunting camp that had to erase their name. what it means for perry's campaign. >> reporter: the republican candidate used the " n" word, but did that to point out rival against rick perry. and that is very insensitive.

>> reporter: but the texas governor's communication director quickly reversed the statement saying, "when my dad joined the lease in 1993, soon painted over the offensive word. it is my understanding that the rock was also turned over to further upsecure what was originally written on it." but cbs5 political analyst says that this could be too little too late. >> even if this word was painted over, they should have explained it and quite frankly deeply insensitive. i can't believe why they didn't move the rock, blow it up, get rid of it. >> reporter: they interviewed people claiming they saw the rock with offensive name still on it during the 1980s and 90s. >> governor perry has been going there for years to hunt. i think that it shows a lack of sensitivity for a long time of not taking that word off of that rock and renaming the place. it's just a basic case of insensitive. >> it was painted over?

>> yes, painted over, but how long ago was it painted over? >> reporter: governor perry said the old name has their origins from another time and era when unfortunately offensive language was used to name some land formations around the country. they say that you cannot cover something up this explosive. >> it is afterall just a word, obvious, this is just a rock, but leading it around sort of creates a look at what we are talking about it again and asking questions as to why you want to be associated with a land that had that name in the first place. >> will it sink his campaign? probably not. but it will speak to the ability of perry's campaign. they should have been upfront with this controversy, explaning it before it becomes a part of the news cycle as it is now. >> thank you very much. well, a ban on banning circumcision is now the law in california. they cannot ban the procedure. the law was written in response to a san francisco ballot

measure that would have outlawed the circumcision. backers argued that circumcision is an unnecessary surgery. they argue this is an important part of the jewish and muslim faith. three people killed while leading the party in the east bay and across the times. they are reporting that one of the victims is a 16-year-old girl. police say two gunman opened fire just after 1:00 this morning. the party was held in a warehouse, the industrial area and they report about 150 people attended and police are hoping that witnesses will come forward. the shootings occurred before 1:30 this morning, but three bodies remained in this parking lot, covered in tarps until the afternoon as police continued their investigation into a multiple murder outside the legal warehouse party. >> we are trying to find a motive. we are not aware of any conflicts that have occurred prior to the party or during the party.

>> reporter: at least two people are armed with the receive e be my -- semiautomatic handguns. a lot of those shots were aimed at this explorer. three people died, three others were injured. they heard the shots from across the streets. >> there was a noise, this noise, i didn't know what it was. >> reporter: he went out on the roof to check it out. >> some people are running around, you know, and they had that a little bit. but i guess that's what you would expect. >> they know there were a lot of witnesses, dozens of people until the parking lot at the time of the -- people in the parking lot at the time of the shooting. they are hoping that more of them will be moving forward. >> we are separating the information we are getting, hoping to get more information for the folks that may have left the scene here, but you know, they have valuable information for us. >> reporter: and police, they also spent much of the day trying to track down the people here responsible for the party, which was advertised on the internet, but it did not have a permit. >> when that occurs, we are notified if there will be a large group of gathering or

party to monitor it. and you know at this point, there was no notification to that and as far as i know, no permanent tissue. >> it's disturbing, obviously. but the times that we are living in right now. >> reporter: cbs5. and changes are being considered here at the intersection where a little girl was hit and killed by a car. the 6-year-old was killed in an east crosswalk at bay road and gloria road as she walked to school last week. her mother was right behind her. the the driver was a teacher at another school. on tuesday, the city council heard staff reporting and getting feedback from the community members about the traffic conditions in the area, and now they will determine if changes need to be made. temporary repairs where a two-foot wide sink hole opened up and they are now in place. residents along the 300 block noticed the pavement giving way at about 8:00 this morning.

public works says that the 100- year-old sewer main under the road collapsed. it and the crews spent the day making repairs, getting the road reopened. the permanent repairs will start tomorrow. and for some bay area cities, a smaller budget could mean a smaller police force. but for these people, it's the dispatchers that are getting the acts. on how some residents are believing that public safety will change. >> reporter: it's always bad news when the town loses police officers to a budget cut. cutting loose their police dispatchers while trying to keep the same number of officers on the streets. now when a resident calls11, a dispatcher -- calls 911, a dispatcher in south san francisco will answer the call. >> the call will go to south san francisco? >> yes. >> it sounds like an unfortunate budget cut to me. >> reporter: and the south san francisco service, pacifica expects to save about $300,000 a year, about half of the $336,000 they need to cut from the city budget. >> we have the technology as

long as there's no significant difficulty in response from those calls. i don't see any problems with that. >> do you not like it, it's not good. >> reporter: but for some here, there's a perception that they will not be as safe. >> if it wasn't for the fire department, seen right there, then i would have been in serious trouble. >> reporter: he says he never liked 911, he has his own system. >> it's just like when you call the highway patrol it goes to sacramento, bouncing back. there's more times. you are better off having the local police department numbers in your phone. >> reporter: it's not known if the direct lines to the police agencies will work after they dispatch this. he says he will try to provide the same level of service as before. there will be other changes when the new services go into

effect be beginning tomorrow. for one, anyone who walks up to the police department here and pushes the button on the door for the intercom and gets a response, they will actually be talking to someone in south san francisco. in pacifica, don knapp, cbs5. protesters in wall street say they are in for the long haul. they are now beginning their third week dancing out in the financial district. today, they pledged to stay as long as they can. although that they have clear objectives, they speak against corporate greed, global climate change as well. protesters are now spreading across the country from boston to san francisco. >> i think what you're seeing now is actually an organic grass roots movement that doesn't have an organized leadership behind it. >> more than 700 people were arrested yesterday when protesters stopped traffic on the brooklyn bridge. several unions are planning to join the protest for a march

next week. american travelers are being told by the state department to keep on high alert after the u.s. military strike killed an american-born al qaeda leader in yemen. a former vice president is defending the obama administration's use of force in that attack. >> it's the new haven. >> reporter: they warn that the killing of the u.s.-born leader in al qaeda in yemen raises the -- leader for al qaeda in yemen raises a rise. killing anwar al-awlaki on friday. he spoke fluent english, using the internet to gain a worldwide network. >> he was the pipe piper of al qaeda, drawing western recruits, trying to inspire the americans and others to attack fellow citizens. >> reporter: the radical cleric played a role in attacks against the united states, including the fort hood shooting and the failed underwear bombing on christmas day in 2009. the statewide issue reported a worldwide alert. saying they might retaliate.

americans traveling overseas may be a target. >> i think anybody who is traveling would rather be safe and cautious than to ignore things because we all want to make sure we're safe. >> reporter: friday's attack also killed another american, publishing an online gihadist newsletter. thoroughsed concerns about targeting u.s. citizen -- they have raised concerns about targeting u.s. citizens. >> i think the president ought to have the authority to raise that attack. there's clear evidence. >> reporter: experts say that al-awlaki's death is a blow the to the terror network, but al qaeda and yemen remains a threat. will he or won't he make a run for president of the united states? new jersey governor, chris christie appears to be changing his mind.

potentially life- altering e scientists, riders, brokers are all waiting for a potentially life-altering phone call. that will be announced tomorrow morning. they reward ground breaking achievements in economics, medicine, physics, chemistry, literature, and peace. that will be announced in norway. well after months of denials, there are indications tonight that the new jersey governor may be changing his mind and run for president. if he decides to run, he had be cutting it close. this morning, he was not dropping any hints. >> governor? are you ready for presidency? >> reporter: after months of repeated denial. >> what do i need to do to convince people that i'm not running? >> reporter: he is now reconsidering. and as the team is investigating a presidential run. the first republican caucus could be less than 100 days away, leaving little time to hire staff, raise money, and

develop an effective strategy. he's been doing a great job as governor, being a very viable candidate. >> reporter: in the absence of the clear front runner, they say that there is still time for christie to get in. >> i don't think that it is too late for a candidate with his stature to decide to run. >> reporter: but that might be a top sell to more conservative republicans. >> i think that's an ability for them if they get out there. >> i have struggled with my wait for 30 years. it's a struggle. >> reporter: some of them have taken it to another level saying things like he is just too fat to be president and he should eat a salad and take a walk. cbs news political editor says for him, it's not a matter of image, but a matter of endurance. >> i think that you really need to decide whether or not he is fit enough to do this and whether or not he has the energy to do it. >> reporter: but should christie decide to run, his

biggest obstacle may be money. needing to raise tens of millions of dollars. and sources tell cbs news that the final decision is expected this week. whit johnson, cbs news, washington. >> and so the question we are asking is will it rain? and jim says, yes, it will. >> will it rain? of course. when and how much is still up in the air, of course, as the nature of the forecast. we'll take a look at our best guess at this hour. we'll see the rain is headed our way, beginning this evening in the north bay and moving south into the greater bay area throughout the day tomorrow as the rain spreads north to south. and again, we are looking for a rather light amount of rainfall as the first system is here. the second one will be significantly wetter and likely to arrive late tuesday into wednesday as we see it already, rain is falling on the north coast as the tail end of this system will be moving south here through the night. crossing into the greater bay area through the day tomorrow

with light showers expected. roughly a quarter of an inch or so. we'll take a look at that forecast in just a second. you can see this moving slowly south through the day tomorrow. clearing by tomorrow night. and we can expect the rainfall amounts anywhere from half of an inch to a quarter of an inch in the north bay. less than, well, a quarter of an inch across the greater bay area. and again, we'll see the rain taper off tomorrow night into early tuesday. a brief breakthrough for tuesday and before the next system will move into the area. and it promises to be wetter than the first one. so we could see significantly more moisture anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain. and as again, that will be wednesday's front. here we see it crossing the region and clearing out by early thursday morning beginning a drying trend that will continue into and through next weekend. so we've got a brief bit of rain before a bit of a break. again, this is tomorrow at this

hour. we'll see most of the rain falling in the north bay and crossing, well, that's tonight at this time actually. crossing tomorrow. then on tuesday, a bit of a break before the next round of the rain will arrive for wednesday. and that is packing a bitter punch than what -- what we will see. pretty significant early season rainfall here with winter storm watch up through the northern sierra. down to 6,000 feet. chains are likely as once again, we will see a good bit of snow in the high country. and also cooler temperatures as you would expect in the mid to upper 60s in the north bay for warmer locations. and we'll look for the supper 60s to the the lower 70s here through midweek as the conditions will continue to cool here. a bit of wind on wednesday as well and as things dry out on thursday, we'll look for temperatures to start warming up rapidly. still probably a little below

aims to make sure that dog owners have a license for their pet. it has always been state law for them to be licensed. only about 16% of them actually are. and the bill targets the bet stores and the rescue groups that are requiring them to submit the dog owners contact information to local licensing agencies. pet owners can then be contacted to ensure their dogs will get licensed. if not, they could be fined about $100. well, it's the end of an era for 60 minutes. he signs off at the regular contributors to the tv news magazine. and john wayne was one of those recognizable actors of our time. next, how you can own a piece of him. so...what do you think?
