oakland city hall joined by mayors. and also drawn by the star power of actor activist, danny glover. >> we are here because it's the right thing to be here. sick of being sick and tired. >> protesters acknowledged they represent various causes to find common ground. >> america is not going to get any jobs, significant amount of jobs back until we have fair trade. free trade has taken all the jobs out of the country. >> it all boils down to who is reaping profits and who is paying the price. >> penney hall of berkeley claims friends have died because they could not afford medical care. >> and mostly the celebrated 1% are making the profits in a very mean spirited way. organized with occupy wall

street. activists demand that wall street and millionaires pay what they claim is a fair share. generally the actions have been tolerated if not encouraged by some community leaders. roger is a san francisco city college professor. >> i'm troubled that 1% of the population controlled 40% of the wealth. we see it in terms of healthcare costs and the failure of our educational system. >> organizers and participates say the rallies offer an opportunity to be heard at a unique time in history. >> it had to be a resolution and transformation. governor jerry brown was also at the plaza this evening. very near the occupy oakland encampment. stepped into a building on the plaza on the east side. vincent is celebrating its 100th anniversary. but he did not step outside to talk with the protesters. >> he may have gotten an

earful. thank you very much. today's protest in oakland was one of many not just in the bay area, but around the country. several hundred occupy sf protesters marched down market street just before 6:00 tonight. the peaceful demonstration moved towards the ferry building. within the last eight days, occupation campers in san francisco had been removed twice by police. only to return to their location outside the federal reserve bank. >> thousands of americans rallied for a variety of causes in the nation's capital today. they participated in the march. the civil rights leader spoke at the martin luther king memorial trying to drum up support. other groups call for easier access to job. and in new york where the

occupation protest movement started, thousands of demonstrators filled times square. they marched 40 blocks, snarling traffic for hours. 74 people were arrested. 24 of those were taken into custody at a nearby city bank ranch for trespassing. >> it is the greatest place in the world. it's new york. if we can't have a say here, where are we going to go? >> small scuffles between protesters took place later in the day. two police officers were hospitalized. the antiwall street protest isn't just spreading across the u.s. today the movement reached cities all over the world. tina explains, some of the demonstrators turned to violence. >> angry italians filled the streets as protests turned violent. some torched cars and smashed bank windows as riot police used tear gas to keep control.

but thousands of others rallied peacefully. demonstrators across europe joined the u.s. occupy movement in a day of local protests. they marched against government budget cuts and what they call corporate greed. he says people are suffering from the power of banks. in greece, people vented more of the fury they felt for months as the country fuels europe's debt crisis. in london, julian rallied protesters and promised his website will launch a campaign against financial institutions. british police stood guard here in central london where organizers were hoping for tens of thousands of protesters. the number is much smaller. demonstrators wanted to occupy the london stock exchange, but police held them back. global campaigners say they are hoping for nonviolent demonstrations in more than 900

sties around the world by days end. protesters in hong kong, and tokyo had the same message. >> we need the people over profits. >> but crowds weren't as big in asia where the economy is growing. most of the day's protests were peaceful, but it seemed the larger the country's debt, the louder the crowd. tina krause, cbs news, london. >> tragedy on the water in southern california. three women riding on a water craft were killed when they slammed into a boat. it happened on the reservoir in los angeles county. four men in the boat were hurt. three of them seriously. the los angeles county sheriff's office is investigating the crash and right now, no cause has been determined. >> days after a shooting rampage left eight people dead, dozens of people showed up to the site it pay their respects and some went inside the salon. melissa on how this tragedy has

brought a community together. >> a community. >> hand in hand, strangers stood together. the support has truly perched the families of those grieving the loss of their loved ones. including those to randy fannon. family and friends stepped inside the salon for the first time since the tragedy today. >> i think the emotions are just -- everyone is overwelmed. they are just trying to get rid of the visual to see it maybe a little different than it was when they left. just trying to raise, start some sort of process. it's going to take for ever. >> suzanne is the sister-in- law of fannon. her sister, sandy, was there when her husband was killed. >> he's the best man that god ever made. truly.

to jobs. apple says the event at stanford university is private and that no public services are planned. a small private funeral was held a week ago. jobs cofounded apple and was the master mind behind the iphone and ipad. but october 5 at the age of 56, he battled pancreatic cancer for years. oakland has recorded its 91st homicide of the year. one man was shot to death, a second wounded near 11th and will yesterday about noon. no arrests or suspects have been announced. last year at this time, there were 64 homicides in oakland. and today oakland's mayor layed out her proposal. the announcement comes amid dropping approval ratings, at a time when the city is without a permanent police chief. kristen ayers reports, many residents aren't sold on the crime stopping plan. >> applause and a smattering of boos, with the prevention

plan that she hopes will reduce crime here. >> beyond the slogans and beyond the gimmicks, we really have to start talking about changing the city block by block. so i'm talking about 100 blocks. >> plan zeros in on 100 blocks in east and west oakland where data shows 90% of the homicide st happen. this is one of the 100 blocks that will be targeted. the mayor's office says we will see more police here. more public works officials and mentoring groups targeting children who live here. some residents worry that is just lip service. >> one oakland resident, a former foster child who watched her peers drift into drugs, alcohol, and prostitution, says the city has done little to help. >> i really feel like it's a publicity stunt for them to make it seem like they are trying to help us. >> a couple held signs, calling her a liar. others blamed her for the surprise resignation last week. but qualm has allies here,

mainly the interim police chief who hailed it as a step in the right direction. >> this is a multifaceted approach. the heart of it is trying to build relationships with the community. >> heart of quam's plan, squarely in the 100 most violent blocks in the city. target triewns and families. and share data trends with highway patrol and the housing authority. but residents say with 84 homicides on the books this year and no permanent police chief, there are no guarantees the plan will change anything. >> i just don't have any idea what's going to happen at this given time. >> kristen ayers, cbs 5. police predicted it might happen. why officers rushed to the bay area cemetery where a funeral was being held. it's the day we celebrate ungodly images and evil characters, but when christian groups want to change that. how it plans to celebrate as an alternative to halloween.

despite a heavy police presence, a top member of the hell's angels club was shot. it happened just before 1:00 this afternoon in san jose. 5,000 people were attending the funeral for him when shots rang out. the mercury news reports, the dead man is steve towson. police say something about the crime scene doesn't add up.

>> when the officers arrived, it was moments after the shooting. they noticed that the scene appeared to have been tampered with. so again, i can't get into details as to what they found that made them believe it was tampered with, but they believe it had been tampered with. >> police have no suspects in the case, but they are interviewing witnesses. today's homicide came as a massive crowd of bikers remembered the member of a hell's angels leader that was killed in a casino. what it takes to put together a funeral of this magnitude. >> an estimated 5,000 bikers from all over the country came to san jose today to honor jeff pettigrew. the president of hell's angels. >> he was a human and he had a heart of gold. >> he was a good man. he'll be missed. >> awful to hear that he was

gone. and for what? i don't understand. >> pettigrew was gunned down last month. the murder was ernesto gonzalez. a member of a rival bike club. gonzalez was arrested a week later in a car near ucsf. mourners here down play a gang warfare motive. >> people looking in, calling it a war, but even among family, you have disputes. >> some bikers admit there is inherent danger in some clubs. >> it's like a fear that all of us have. >> biker groups from all over the bay area, california, and the country were represented here today. >> we are all here gathering. it has been going on. everybody is cool. we like to keep it that way. >> so did the san jose police camped out on the corner patrolling the event. >> the director of the memorial park says this is the

largest event that has gone on here in recent memory. >> what does it take to put on an event of this size? >> a lot of patience and understanding. a lot of empathy that there are people different. we serve everybody. >> in san jose, cbs 5. with halloween just two weeks away, a group is promoting a faith based alternative. it's called jesus, when the pastor who created it says halloween is not consistent with the christian faith and he says many people feel uncomfortable that day, so instead of dressing up in scary costumes, dress up in white and hand out bibles. >> i don't think christians need to feel guilty about putting their kids in costumes. shake down the neighbors for candy bars.

coastline. this area of high pressure temporarily holding. right behind it, this area of low pressure and that's going to bring the cloud cover and bring us even more clouds, making our way into tomorrow. also keeping temperatures cooler than what we saw today. so your highs for tomorrow around northern california look like this. almost breaking to 80 in sacramento. same story for redding, lake tahoe a high of 70. across the board here, you're seeing cloud cover once again a factor. high for tomorrow in the bay area, quite nice for any outdoor activity. 76 is the high. 77 if you're headed to redwood city. cooler in pacifica. hayward in the mid 70s. inland locations squeezing out few low 80-degree readings. up into the north bay, pretty nice. 73 expected for tomorrow. and if you're in sanoma, almost breaking that 80-degree mark. as we make our way into monday, we'll see warmer weather, more sunshine in store and tuesday,
