amid the devastation. >> first responders combed through the rubble searching for tornado survivors. >> we hope that we have not left any stone unturned. >> this crew picked up a photo album they hope to get to its owner. >> several families say that after the fact. they'll say that's the only picture we found. that's all we have left of our family. >> the tornado demolished the town. sending a school bus into a building, dropping a tractor trailer on a gas station and sheering the walls off of homes. >> i have seen some of the most incredible damage i have ever seen. >> the tornado that tore through henryville headed across the state line into eastern kentucky. cutting a path of destruction 52 miles long. >> the national weather service is classifying it as f4. >> it's in that violent category that most tornadoes don't come anywhere near. >> rescuers in salem, indiana,

found the two-year-old in a field near her home. in ohio, a twister tore up the town of moscow, killing several people. and at least one person died in alabama where the first storms started friday morning. back in henryville, long time resident, wayne jones, is trying to stay positive. >> i have insurance that covers everything. i'll just pay everything off and start over. >> jones will have to start with finding a new place to live. susan, cbs news, henryville, indiana. >> the death toll is expected to rise as officials search for those still missing. president obama called the governor's of indiana, kentucky, and ohio to promise federal assistance in their recovery. united airlines new computer system hit some turbulence today. the final step in the merger of continental and united met the data were combined into one computer system. but sorting out ticket codes and frequent flier miles for

best. at the attempt to be humorous, i created a national stir. i apologize for the insulting word choices. sandra had been asked to testify to congressional democrats in support of their policy that would require her college to cover her birth control. responding to that testimony, limbaugh said, what does it say about the college coed who goes before a congressional committee and said that she must be paid to have sex. it makes her a prostitute. she wants to be paid to have sex. san mateo congresswoman fired back from the floor of the house. >> shame on you for being the hate monger that you are. shame on you for calling the women of this country prostitutes. >> first garnered national attention two weeks ago when they refused to hear her testify on the new policy of insurance coverage for contraception. before she heard from limbaugh,

she got a call from the president. >> he also wanted to express concern and make sure that i was okay. he mentioned that as a parent of two daughters, he hopes i would tell my parents that they should be proud of me. >> both republicans and democrats had condemned limbaugh's remarks. despite his apology, sponsors pulled ads from limbaugh's radio show. super tuesday is just three days away and most of the republican presidential candidates spent the day campaigning in delegate rich ohio. washington state held its caucuses today and mitt romney racked up another victory there. >> reporter: inside some caucus sites, it was standing room only. in others, voters were turned away. as tens of thousands of washington state republicans made their picks for a presidential nominee. front runner, mitt romney, won the contest. ron paul dropped in on caucus

goers saturday, pushing hard for his first victory, but came up short. the washington state win may give romney a boost heading into the criminal supertuesday contest. saturday, he rallied supporters in ohio, where he is locked in a close race with rick santorum, but romney stuck to hammering president obama and highlighting his business background. >> with jobs so badly needed with incomes having gone down, we the president who knows the economy to fix the economy. >> santorum used a 2009 u.s.a. today editorial to challenge romney on healthcare. in it, romney said he supported individual mandates and tax penalties that inspired president obama's healthcare bill. >> you know, it's bad enough that he recommended, it's worse that he wouldn't come clean with the people of this primary that he did it. >> speaking near cincinnati, newt gingrich said he is counting on a win in georgia, he feels he'll do well in ohio. >> i want to get as many

delegates as we can. obviously we see real opportunities here. >> more than 400 delegates are up for grabs super tuesday. >> president obama says his administration is exploring ways to save on gas. he says the reser sergeants is helping, but it's not avoiding the situation. >> there's no shortcut to taking control of our energy future. we have to pursue an all of the above strategy that helps develop every source of american energy and we have to do it now. >> the president said american's dependence on foreign oil decreased. republicans criticized the president for not doing more to increase domestic oil and gas production. the happiest place on earth is staying open later tonight. this after the bomb squad was called trapping park goers in the parking lot for hours. the guard found a suspicious object in a tree near the ticket booth at disney land.

people had to wait in a parking lot and in downtown disney while crews investigated. turns out, it was just a rolled up paper with a spiritual message. >> a lot of people were saying, this is ridiculous. they should have a backup plan for this. >> the man who put the squirrel in the tree apologized. police say charges are possible. the park opened four hours late, the extra hours tonight are to make up for the inconvenience. it was the largest farm animal rescue in the state. thousands of malnourished hens plucked from a shed. tens and thousands of other hens weren't so lucky. tonight, an update. shows us how you can help the surviving hens find a new home. >> 2,000 hens that lived in battery cages for a little over a year. >> david says seven to a cage, starved for weeks and unable to move. those were the conditions 50,000 hens endured at a shed

in turlock. >> it's really, really sad. it's a terrible, terrible situation. >> 40,000 hens did not survive, but the majority of the animals who did are being cared for here at the animal place rescue ranch in vacville. >> there are a thousand healthier than they were when they arrived. >> the hens received medical attention and a diet of a high protein, high calcium feed. >> they lost their body weight and they are putting that on. they are happy now. they are walking around, they are scratching. they are sunbathing. >> getting back to good health hasn't been easy. >> it has been overwelming. it's been sun up to sun down every single down with an army of staff and volunteers. >> not only physically, but financially draining as well. the sanctuary goes through 2,000 pounds or $400 worth of feed per day. the group is looking for any help from the public either through financial donations or adoption. >> we want to have a backyard, you need to have a coop that

>> announcer: with citibank's popmoney, dan can easily send money by email right from his citibank account. >> nice job, ben. >> announcer: well played, dan. well played. citibank popmoney. easier banking. standard at citibank. the doctor prosecutors say over prescribed medications in three deadly overdoses including a student from the bay area is charged with murder. 42-year-old lisa sang did not enter a plea to second-degree murder and other charges yesterday in a southern california courtroom. prosecutors say she prescribed drugs to several people, including jody from san ramon. the college student died after taking a variety of pills ask drinking alcohol. >> it's a matter of fact, as far as i can tell, this is the first case that we have filed against a doctor charging murder for over prescription of drugs. >> being held in jail on $3 million bail.

new tonight, a free trial hearing on the costa concordia trip in italy brought out lots of lawyers for angry passengers. as anna reports, this is just the beginning of a long process that will determine if the ship's captain will stand trial from manslaughter. >> the legal teams for cost costa concordia passengers are learning what happened aboard the cruise ship. the luxury liner hit a reef and capsized off the coast of the island. 25 bodies were pulled from the sea and seven people are still missing. at the hearing, the judge assigned four experts to analyze the ship's data recorder and gave them until july to prepare their report. prosecutors will then decide whether there's enough evidence to try captain francisco, he's accused of veering too close to the island and causing the

wreck. then abandoning ship. his lawyer says his client did not abandon ship voluntarily. the captain told investigators he fell into a lifeboat when the costa concordia capsized. neither eight others under investigation attended the hearing. this theater in the center has been turned into a temporary courtroom. over 200 people are inside. mostly lawyers and experts and some passengers from the costa concordia. this woman's daughter is among the missing. i don't have any confidence in the italian justice system, she says, i don't trust them at all. costa cruises came under the spotlight again when another one of its ships had to be towed to shore after a fire broke out on board. passengers spent three days without electricity and running water. cbs news, italy. >> nearly half of oakland's community officers on a different beat tonight helping

the mayor's 100 block initiative. 22 problem solving officers are now part of a crime fighting team focusing on the city's most violent neighborhoods. >> the cops are in the hundred blocks are being assigned are officers that were able to come back to work for the city last july when the police officers union agreed to pay into the pension. we were able to bring back an extra 34 officers. we also just got a federal grant for 25 new officers that are going to be assigned to the school. >> officers are also funded by measure y, a partial tax voters approved eight years ago. well, there's an old add damage about idol hands. one bay area city is keeping it from becoming a reality. ann on what's being done to keep kids out of school by putting them to work. >> when you turn that back in, your application will be complete. >> for these teenagers, it's a

chance that their first summer job. >> stop depending on my parents. >> but for amira, it's the opposite. >> i look at any kind of job right now, my mom needs help and she is trying to go to school. >> city of oakland wants to give half of the jobs available at this fair to people who live in high crime neighborhoods. part of the mayor's 100 block initiative. the 5% of the city with more than 90% of the violent crimes. >> you can't, but not see the kids who are dealing drugs on the corner and i would have conversations with them. and a lot would say, if i had a job, i wouldn't be doing this. this is hard work, we're out in the cold. and some people may think they are putting you on, but i believe a lot of those kids. the teenagers aren't so sure. >> kids are going to do what they want to do. >> a paycheck at least offers a way to learn the rules of the working world. at this fair, the department's hiring include park and rec's and the explorer program that the fire and police department.

congress cut a huge summer jobs program so oakland has been trying to fill the gap. it is the combined public sector effort to create 1,000 summer jobs. that could lead to successful future jobs. >> hopefully i'll go to college for engineering. >> and more help for the very neighborhoods they came from. >> i want to be a probation officer. >> why? >> because i want to help youth in oakland. >> many fairs are planned for april. cbs 5. >> we're talking about summer jobs and feels like summer should be around the corner. >> it's amazing, we just did a fast forward. it was a gorgeous day across the bay. if you enjoyed today, you're going to enjoy tomorrow as well. we are looking for another weather repeat. temperatures outside right now, getting chilly out there. 50 in livermore. 50 in san francisco and only 46 degrees out in santa rosa. we are going to chill things down tonight. clear and cool. that's the name of the game. we're going to see a few upper

30s for the most part. low to mid 40s. for tomorrow, plenty of sunshine once again. and we are going to see widespread 70s. kind of like what we saw today. especially in our inland spots. going to reach the mid and upper 70s. satellite and radar is going to show a big high pressure system that has been keeping us nice dry, mild, and the low that brought us rain showers last week, that's completely out of here. so our future cast tracking the next 72 hours or so. it looks like we are staying dry tonight and through tomorrow. and then we're going to freeze time about midnight on tuesday. we start to get a little unsettled. we are putting a slight chance of rain in our forecast for overnight monday into tuesday. now anything we get is not going to be much and mainly going to be north of the golden gate. very light showers. more like sprinkles for monday into tuesday. pinpoint forecast, your overnight lows mostly going to be in the upper 30s to 40s across the bay. 47 in vallejo. one of your chillier spots

coming in at 38. 45 in oakland. and once again for tomorrow, 70s. a lot of them. 76 in livermore. 73 is your high in san rafael and 75 in oakland and redwood city. looking out over the next couple of days, a lot of sunshine in our forecast for sunday and monday and a slight chance of some sprinkles monday into tuesday and again we're keeping chances mainly north of the golden gate. by tuesday afternoon, we are looking pretty good and temperatures get on the chilly side. that's going to be our biggest change. 10 to 15 degrees cooler across the bay area from what we saw today. and then things get more seasonal by the end of the workweek. dry and mild. >> a lot of weather to enjoy. we might as well do it. thank you much. all right, just like taxes, higher fares for public transit are a certainty. how you can determine which bart lines get the highest fare hikes and how you can avoid the higher costs.

histor a sea otter that is being called the most important animal in the history of the aquarium died. rescued from the beach in 2001. she was suffering from a seizure disorder that vets believed stemmed from a brain infection. in spite of her illness, she was the first rescued sea otter to rear pups that were successfully released to the wild. she was a ser surrogate mother to 15 pups. before making a decision on a price hike in july, bart is holding five public workshops this month to get ideas. the point is to find out how to spread the pain of higher fares among different sets of riders. to find out when and where they are, click on links and numbers. come july, cal tran riders using the old fashion ticket system will have to pay more.

the peninsula corridor approved higher fares. the goal is to encourage riders to switch to clipper cards. the price of the cards will not go up, but those that pay cash will fork over 25 cents more. tickets lined up to take part of a white elephant sale. it benefit the museum. money will help support the museum's exhibitions and educational programs. >> what we don't use, we give away to women shelters and the growers and the pickers that need help and we have a wonderful system to recycle all of the pieces of merchandise that are given to us. >> in the even's history, it raised more than $16 million
