he passed away last night in the was long known and 60 minutes for his persistent and tough questioning of public figures. mike wallace was talented squad determined and he never backed down. on screen or off. the news legend began his professional life and radio and his early years of broadcasting were far ranging. he's saying and commercials and worked on variety and game shows and eventually making a breakthrough in a television program called like pete challenging his guests with difficult questions. what kind of people are your friends. for a while he straddled the entertainment and news world when his teenage son peter died in a hiking accident in greece he decided to concentrate more meaningful work and signed an

bay, and a half inch or less across the greater bay area. as temperatures, today we will be on the warm side, slightly warmer than yesterday by a few degrees. cooler temperatures expected through the week as we see the clouds moving in to cool things down with a slight chance of showers starting in the north bay monday night and spreading across the bay area through tuesday and wednesday. it looks like more rain than expected in the picture. at the end of the week we will get another shot and drying out just in time for next weekend. there's probably more rain in this picture than we will actually see but nonetheless it looks like spring showers and cooler temperatures can be expected through the rest of the week. >> there is a new plan from the

california high speed rail authority. the latest estimate is $68 billion but that is $30 billion less than before >> so how reliable are the numbers and should the project go forward given the price fluctuations? those are some of the questions we have put to the state senator who sit on the transportation authority in sacramento and will be overseeing this. >> is a huge project, the biggest capital project in the history of california. started at 42 then as you said it went up to 98 and now 68 >> in the meantime we have push and pull road to nowhere that was going to be in the central valley and now it has expanded to 300 mi. but other people say let's spend the money upgrading san

francisco to san jose. which way will it go? >> the last report by the authority on april 5th was to change and eliminate the so- called train to nowhere so it is going in the right direction and a couple of colleagues and i have been forceful in saying we should spend money with the writer ship in the bay area and l.a. so that is the blended approach that they have moved to >> it looks like the first pets will be incorporating local lakes so we would see a lot of things going on in the bay area >> that is true. under this plan would significantly upgrade san francisco to san jose and that is a good thing because there is a need there. looking at these videos that the authority has put out of train's whipping through the central valley and going into these incredible high-tech stations in san francisco, it was a heck of a sales job and

they're supposed to do this so it does not come out of our pockets forever. how realistic is it that what we see it here will really happen? >> will add the equivalent of the state of new york in the next 25 years to california. we have to improve passenger rail and that is what the argument is, how do we do that? there is real questions as to where the funding would come from and it is an ambitious program >> one of the immediate hurdles is the real bond issue, you have expressed a major concerns about that >> will be asked by the government to authorize financing and this will be the first segment and that is what we're talking about a one of the criticisms in the program is there is significant funding that is identified and that is

true for a lot of programs >> unidentified basically means we don't have it and nobody is coming through with it. so we have 12 billion of a 68 billion plan and 50 billion missing so i guess everyone's question is do think they will push a button and start and hope the money comes in or what? >> that is what the advocates would say. myself and others have said wait a minute we need to have more definite plans that identify prospective funding and so far it has been the private sector or the government will come in but there's no assured me of that >> we have a price tag changing and we don't have money for it. >> we have to have all spent by 2017, $2.4 billion that the obama administration has provided >> will you be making a decision this session? >> the governor will ask us to do that within the next eight
