get rid of it. >> and it was a shocking sight to see on easter morning. >> that makes me very mad. >> at some time last night a racial slur was spray-painted on several homes. >> this is the first time i have ever seen anything like that explicitly. >> what did you think about that? >> i think it is terrible, it is defacing people's property, i think that it is cowardly. >> one target was the home of buddhist monks on 27 avenue in lincoln, and wondered if they were singled out. >> we stopped the car and came back and ask us what happened but we did not know. we just erase it. >> the offending words on this house for covered up with cardboard. the people that live in this neighborhood say that it is intolerable, and not a neighborhood that has problems with racism and that is what makes it is much more disturbing. it has appeared in almost four different residences along lincoln boulevard.

neighbors say that this is worrisome, especially after the controversial shooting death of a black teenager trayvon martin triggered protests. >> you think that things have been addressed but apparently they're not. we need to have more discussions and civic involvements to try and ameliorate the differences. >> the city says it cost taxpayers $22 million per year to remove graffiti from public buildings. private property is the responsibility of the owner. >> this city will give you a notice pretty quickly. >> they will fiu if you do not take care of that. >> they have 30 days to get rid of it or pay fines starting at $500. a vandal faces up to three years in prison and a $50,000 fine. it is impossible to measure the cost of hatred. in san fransisco, linda yee, cbs five. >> police say drunk driver may have caused @ but to crashes on the embarcadero within minutes

of each other around for 30 p.m.. no one was seriously hurt when a jaguar ran into a muni light rail vehicle at the harrison street intersection. the second crash happened at the granite street intersection. police say car was leaving it sporadically in and out of traffic when it hit one car, bounce off the second and hit a third car before smashing into the side of a restaurant. the driver and four other people were taken to the hospital, their injuries are not considered life-threatening. officers are investigating the accident as a possible d u i. there's no connection between the two collisions either than their proximity. about 200 people attended a vigil tonight in concord for a father and a daughter killed by an out of control s u v. police are investigating whether the driver was on the telephone when the accident happened and whether drugs or alcohol or a factor. as ann mackovic shows us, the people that saw the accident that killed the father and daughter, are haunted by the

horrifying images. >> i cannot sleep last night. you know, it was just keep coming into my eyes. >> a common theme for anyone that witnessed the crash, a teenager drove this s u v into a father and his two daughters out for a bike ride yesterday morning. >> i heard the crash and screaming. a girl was screaming. me and my sister ran out there and we saw people on the street. so we try to help them. >> the 41 year-old father died immediately and is 9 year-old daughter died in hospital. the 12 year-old daughter was injured but is ok. along the roadway today memorial for the family. >> the father was a big part of the community. >> his kids went to school with his girls. >> show some respect. >> they also live three lanes going east way, the speed limit 45. >> people drive too fast.

accident all the time. >> today outside of a building that was also hit by the s u v, a jumble of reminders of what happened including the fire hydrant that the vehicle crashed into, writing on the sidewalk. the 17 year-old driver identified by friends as david rosen had just driven through the intersection, witnesses say that he was speeding and police are investigating whether or not his cell phone may have been involved. he called his friend right after. >> he told me that he might have killed two people, he was very scared. i was not sure if he was serious. but he seemed very nervous. >> the 70 year-old driver facing charges of vehicular manslaughter but is expected to make a court appearance this week. >> tulsa police have arrested two men in a shooting rampage that left three people dead and terrorized the black community. as and warner reports, both suspects are white and the motive appears to be racially motivated revenge.

>> the north peoria church of christ held a special service on this easter to remember the victims gunned down on good friday. the multiple shootings stunned the city of 400,000 people. all the victims were black. the attacks all occurred in a small section of north tulsa. police knew only that one man in a white truck was allegedly involved. an early today 48 hours after the shooting spree, two white men were arrested. a 19 year-old and 32 year-old. >> we were desperate for leads, and that is why we made some very pointed request of the community to come forward. and they did. >> stake in lin has lived through personal tragedy, two years ago his father were shot and killed in an altercation with a black man. and then in january his fiancee, the mother of their infant son,

took her own life. this neighbor has lived across the street from him since he was a child. >> it is a shame, that boy is a good kid, no one ever dig deep enough. >> the day before the shootings he used a racial slur in the official posting describing who shot his father. today is two years at my dad has been gone, he said " it is hard not to go off between that and my fiancee, i am gone ahead ". so far police are not calling this a crime but the city councilman says that for him, the answer is clear. >> he committed the crimes, he was very upset with black people. that person happens to be a white people. the people that they have until into were black people. that fits the bill for me. >> police say that these two suspects were definitely trying to evade capture. they were found in a trailer 7 mi. north of tulsa and

there burned truck was found several miles away. >> college students from all over florida ended their march in stamford florida today. protesting the death of trayvon martin. the teenager shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer. the students began their 40 mi. march in daytona beach on friday. a special prosecutor has yet to determine if there is enough evidence to arrest the shooter george zimmerman. former 60 minutes correspondent mike wallace died last night at the age of 93. his broadcast career spanned 60 years. and was one of the original records on 60 minutes but as his colleague molly schaefer discovered, it was not easy for wallace to retire. >> do you feel that it is time to pack in and reflect? >> reflect about what? give me a

break. reflect? what will i reflect about? >> wallace spent 40 years on 60 minutes, he practically invented the ambush interview. randall kingston looks back on the life and career of a broadcast legend. >> mike wallace was talented, suave, determined, and he never backed down. on screen or off. >> the news legend began his professional life and his early years in broadcasting were far reaching. he sang, the commercials, and worked on variety and game shows, eventually making a breakthrough on a television program challenging his guest with difficult questions. >> what you know about that? what kind of people are you afraid of? >> for a while he straddled the entertainment and news world,

but when his teenaged son peter died in a hiking accident in greece, he decided to concentrate on more meaningful work and signed an exclusive contract with cbs news. in 1968, cbs news producer don hewitt recruited wallace to co- host 60 minutes. in a for a few short years the program became the most influential primetime news show in the history of television. >> you have enough time on the air, you have enough money by and large to do the kind of job that you want, you are working with first-rate producers, and directors, it was heaven sense. >> week after week the audience to into see wallace asked probing questions in his confrontational style. >> a connor image, the political damage, is that of a loser. why? >> the master of the tv interview, he interrogated politicians and criminals, dictators and movie stars. he traveled the world,

completing over 800 reports for 60 minutes. some criticize his use of hidden cameras and surprise confrontations as ambush journalism. a few of the programs targets file lawsuits including a general that sued cbs for libel over documentary wallace did on the vietnam war. the two sides settled but the controversy launch wallace into a suicidal depression. >> adjusted not want to have this incredible wallace exposed. as suffering from depression. >> but wallace decided to talk about his trouble to help others. >> i will not retire, i don't believe, until my toes turned up. >> when he was 87 years old he decided to scale back his work at 60 minutes. he continued to do occasional reports but after his 2000 interview with roger clemens. >> will people believe you? >> his poor health forced him to step away for good.

randall princeton, cbs news. >> other friends and colleagues are remembering mike wallace tonight. the cbs news chairman said that he loved the fact that if he showed up for an interview, and made people nervous. roger ailes from fox news said that wallace was actually trying to serve the audience and that is what made him great. abc news president said that millions turned in every sunday night to see who would be on the receiving end of his interrogations'. a special program dedicated to wallace will be broadcast on 60 minutes next sunday april 15th. >> part of a busy freeway closed for 24 hours. it is all because of this, a gas tanker fire. why the time for the reopening of the firfreeway keeps get pushed back. >> why united is getting out. >> a lovely easter weekend, with increasing clouds and warm temperatures continuing through the night.

>> after this tanker truck fire. a gasoline tanker caught fire last night and crashed near glendale. one man in trouble with the law because of this crash. >> it flipped over and caught fire instantly. >> thousands of gallons of fuel

burst into flames on the 134 west, directly under the 5 freeway interchange around 11:00 saturday night. the chp says that a 25 year-old from glendale crashed his honda accord into the back of the tanker, he was arrested under suspicion of d u i. >> it took a direct flame. >> the chp immediately shut down the 134 in both directions. >> our big concern at this point and time is the stability of the overpass. >> 134 west and east as well as the interchange remains closed throughout the night while crews cleaned and assessed the damage. >> we also need to get engineers up on the bridge, to do what we call coring samples.

it will drill out some of the concrete and look at the structural integrity to see whether or not a slam that licked at the underside of the bridge did any damage or not. >> clean up crews had to siphon roughly 3,000 gal. of gasoline left in one of the trucks to tankers before hauling that truck away. investigators are looking into the cause of an early-morning fire in oakland that damaged several businesses. the fire was reported around 3:30 a.m. near the section of international boulevard. no one was inside when it broke out. crews had it under control within two hours. six businesses were damaged including the restaurant where investigators believe it started. a major airline will no longer be flying out of oakland this summer. united airlines is ending their operations at oakland international on june 4th. they say they do not make financial sense for the company. they serve a little more than one percent of the airport passengers with only 11 weekly

flights to denver. >> it does not make economic sense for them to operate such a small number of flights from one city, in this particular case, mostly to denver. some to chicago. they could operate out of san francisco. so it is sad, anytime you decrease my options as a passenger i'm not happy. >> united will either provide new accommodations or refund customers currently booked on flights to and from oakland. we looked up this weekend, crystal clear conditions but now they're saying the rain is coming in? >> it has been a lovely weekend but we're looking at increasing clouds and gets a chance of showers. we'll be back throughout the work week. there are some high clouds moving into the area. a balmy easter sunday giving way to the increasing clouds and once temperatures through the night. cool and then settled at is the pattern for next week as we see some showers moving back into the forecast. for tonight, right now looking at upper '40's to lure 50's.

the 62 in san the cell. that is questionable at this point. but nonetheless it is above normal for this time of the year. the stationary front has been part of the coast all began long. slowly moving towards us, bringing with it some shower activity with a very dry and warm easter weekend. the rain track going by to the north. we'll see cooler temperatures arrive through midweek as unsettled weather continues through the end of the week, several waves of energy keeping the shower activity going to the weekend beyond. late monday and tuesday comes the next wave of moister. another one to into the region by wednesday. and then thursday evening into friday will come a culture of these systems with once again some thunderstorm potential for the bay area. rainfall amounts as ec tuesday morning in half inch range up north, a quarter of an inch or

less across the bay area. a threat of thunderstorm activity in the future for friday afternoon. as we see mid to upper 60s prevailing around the region. a few 70 still possible. mainly in the south bay. through the end of the week here, weighing down below normal about 10 degrees from what we saw this weekend. and then we see a chance of thundershowers likely by friday into saturday with cooler temperatures to prevail into the weekend. before slowing.
