this is kpix5 news on kbcw. >> there were booms and another boom and a last boom right after that. and then glass everywhere. >> a gunman storms a crowded new jersey shopping mall and disappears. a daycare worker accused of showing up drunk first thing in the morning. >> and a young tourist vanishes off the streets of san francisco after a frantic phone call to his family. good evening, i'm ken basety bastida. >> and i'm elizabeth cook. >> no reports of any deaths or injuries. officials got the call around 9:00 eastern time. s.w.a.t. teams and police with canine units are combing the garden state plaza mall looking for the suspect or suspects. so far, they have come across one shell casing. everyone inside was ordered to

start running. i was in the back of the store and i heard the loud noise and something told me, go see what that was. i ran to front of the store and out of nowhere, the guy walked past the front door and he's shooting shots in the air. >> we heard a few shots, but we weren't sure what it was and everybody started running. we thought it was a joke. >> the mall cops came running past us screaming shots fired and told us to run. >> other witnesses described a lone gunman dressed in black from head to toe and talking to himself. at this time, it's not considered an active shooting incident and the gunman may have left the mall. >> for the first time we are hearing from one of the injured tsa agents who survived friday's shooting at lax. he told the reporter he was shot twice while doing his job trying to protect people. >> tony can barely walk after surviving friday's shooting at los angeles international airport.

the tsa agent was trying to protect passengers. when police say paul ciancia shot him. >> i turned around and there was a gunman and shot me twice. >> investigators visited his apartment just outside los angeles and left with his roommate, who drove ciancia to the airport, but says he had no idea what was going to happen next. ciancia walked into lax, pulled an assault rifle, and opened fire. hernandez, one of three agents shot was killed. he considered hernandez a true friend. >> police shot ciancia four times. his family released a statement. >> paul is our friend son and brother. >> saying he made the conscious decision to make

multiple tsa employees, but people who knew him say they don't know why he wanted to target the tsa. cbs news, los angeles. >> ciancia remains heavily sedated. the injured tsa agent hopes to return to work after he recovers. >> mayor of sunny vail says he is done waiting for lawmakers in sacramento and washington to do something about gun violence. as kit doe tells us, the mayor proposed a laundry list of gun safely laws for tomorrow's election. >> sunny vail mayor did not mix his words. >> i'm used to a fight. >> it would give gun owners 48 hours to report lost or stolen weapons. sunny vail would have to keep logs of ammo sales for two years. guns would have to be stored with locked containers and ban possession of magazines that held more than ten rounds with

discussion in pleasant hill tonight. the city is considering an ordinance requiring gun dealers to keep their distance from neighborhoods, parks, and schools. they would also have to install alarms. and turn over employees background information to police. city council could vote on the proposal tonight. >> it's been a week since the young man from brazil, looking to go to college in san francisco disappeared. last anyone heard from him was a phone call he made at 19th and shot well in the mission district. that's where kristen ayers is tonight. kristen. >> i'm standing right about where apollo was when he called his family in brazil to tell them someone was after him. it has been seven days and now his family has traveled thousands of miles to san francisco to try to find him. >> i'm in trouble. some people following me and i need help. call the police. call a taxi. send someone to find me. >> they are the last words on a

haze heard from her brother over the phone before he mysteriously disappeared one week ago. >> listening to shelters, they tried to put fires out. >> no sign. an art student studying in los angeles. he came to san francisco october 25 to look into city dig at academy of art university. he was only supposed to stay for a couple days. after meeting someone new, he extended his stay. when he called his family one week ago, anna knew something was terribly wrong. >> he was frightened. >> when they arrived at the scene, no one was there. now police are circulating this. a vary lance shot of a person of interest who used pallo's credit card in the mission on halloween. ana wants to find that person and plans to stay in san francisco until she has some answers.

>> something happened. we hear about it. but we feel that we are going to find him. >> in san francisco, kristen ayers, kpix5. >> they say that pollo may be in an altered state of mind. anyone with information should call police. a bay area daycare worker is under arrest. 58-year-old, anna lopez was drunk while the children were under her care. parents called police before 7:00 this morning when they say something appeared to be wrong as they dropped off their children at the child development center. police say they smelled a strong odor of alcohol on lopez and took her in. >> no harm. she definitely was -- the belief was, she was not able to care for the children. so no harm, but it didn't help her being intoxicated. >> informing investigators are

looking to see if there are any similar incidents. two weeks ago have now taken legal action. 13-year-old, andy lopez's family filed a federal lawsuit against deputy eric and sonoma county. the shooting was reckless and violated andy's civil rights. the deputy opened fire after andy refused orders to drop a real gun. turned out to be a replica ak47. >> we are going to prove to our investigation, through our lawsuit, that the shooting of andy lopez was absolutely and unequivocally justified. >> we want justice and also, we want an honest investigation. >> the deputy's attorney said her client thought his life was in danger. sanoma county says the federal lawsuit is premature.

the suit quote, has the potential of interfering with the conduct of the full criminal investigation. >> a case of trash talk goes too far. today, the miami dolphins suspended limen indefinitely after word got out he sent racist and threatening text messages to a teammate. jonathan martin who played at stanford suddenly left the dolphins last week because of emotional issues. a cbs reporter tells us, incognito is not known for having a squeaky clean record. >> richie won't be playing profootball for a while. he's been suspended for threatening jonathan martin and his family using racial slurs. martin left the team last week after a lunchroom prank that was apparently the last straw. cbs sports analyst, jason, says he has seen text messages

slep police are looking for an arsonist who nearly blew up a frat house as people slept inside. someone turned on the gas stove inside the fraternity house early yesterday morning and then lit a small fire. no one was hurt, but fraternity members are still shaken. >> no idea right now. that's the bad part. the scary part. we had officer stay the night. >> police are questioning about 40 people who were at the house for a party saturday night, but so far, they don't have any suspects. >> the university of california is going completely tobacco-free. kpix5's andrea borba tells us that includes banning e cigarettes. >> it's almost easier to find stanford cardinal red on the campus than it is to find a smoker. it's about to get tougher. cal and the entire system
