most likely path to a bomb. >> reporter: the deal was made in switzerland. secretary of state john kerry and diplomats from several countries negotiated with iranian leaders through the night hammering out the final details. in geneva on sunday morning the foreign minister tweeted we have reached an agreement. in that deal iran will temporarily limit its nuclear program. in exchange notions will ease harsh, the nations will ease -- nations will ease harsh sanctions that have damaged iran's economy. >> it is important that all of us see the opportunity to end the crisis and open new horizons. >> we will refrain from imposing new sanctions and we will allow the iranian government access to a portion of the proceeds from sanctions. >> reporter: if this initial dole holds there will be final stage negotiations down the road. to ensure iran does not build a

says it's been more than three weeks. newman went to north korea on a tour but as he was supposed the leave he got pulled off the plane. a man who has known newman for most of his life says all he can do is pray. >> hoping he gets out as soon as possible. and they realize that he's just a tourist is all. >> since 'tween, north korea has detained six americans. kenneth bigh is serving time in a labor camp accused of spreading christianity. the naacp is calling for tougher charges against four san jose state students accuse of hate crimes. mark kelly reports some students on campus also say the school should be stepping up and using this as a teaching opportunity. >> reporter: the san jose silicon valley naacp says the racial harassment that reportedly happened in these dorms is a felony not a misdemeanor. asking the santa clara d. a. to increase the charges. currently freshmen -- school a ation has been

under fire after an 1. onli education project faced a r y morale is l and one minor are suspended from school and facing a series of alleged hate crimes against the victim. an african-american freshman. the news has forced this diverse campus to look at itself in the mirror. >> i know that those things do still happen today. but it's definitely disheartening. >> and there hasn't been much outreach at all by any ras and i just feel like they can be doing a better job. >> reporter: include racial slurs like calling the victim three fifths a slavery era racial slur. this incident is just the most recent trouble to hit campus. administration has been under fire after an online education project faced a rocky start. reports faculty morale is low. and word at one point spring classes could face cuts. >> budget cuts? classes. list goes on. >> reporter: in response the university laid out this week its plan for a teachable moment. scheduling a lecture series on

racial tolerance. but for these students, faculty and staff, have only scratched the surface making this campus inclusive to all students. >> as far as being informed what's going on on campus there's more that can be done. >> reporter: the naacp is calling the incident racially based terrorism and come monday they're going to hold a rally right here on campus to make their voice heard. at san jose state university, mark kelly, kpix 5. >> at least one of the students has turned himself in. the others are also expected to vender ahead of the arraignment in january. san jose police are investigating the murder of a man in a city park and don knapp has the late details. >> reporter: police got a call a 911 call about 4:302 afternoon saying -- this afternoon saying a person was shot here in capital park. the victim apparently is an 18 to 20-year-old male according to san jose police according to joshua herbs. >> about 4:30 this afternoon, officers responded to 911 calls of a person shot.

when officers arrived on scene, we found one male victim. with at least one gunshot wound. he was determined to be dead. >> reporter: any idea what happened? >> we're still piecing that together. it's very preliminary so any possible motives or reason for it is -- would just be speculation at this point. >> reporter: any sense it's gang related? >> always a posesment but right now too premature. >> reporter: investigators have been talking to residents but at this point he's not saying what they may have learned. the suspect is unknown and remains at large. in san jose, don knapp, kpix 5. a fire in san francisco's prevideo heights threatened shops and buildings. it broke out between sacramento and locust streets around 2:30. it took crews hours to get the fire under control. >> i left -- and i see flames but these are not this -- i went back hoping to put

everything into the safe. and then was already knock on the door, out, out, out, out. we are on the fire. >> but no one was hurt and as many as four people need temporary housing. a floor heater likely sparked a fire that badly damaged a building in downtown burling game early this morning. investigators think combustible items near the floor heater caught fear. the building next door was also damaged and no one was hurt but at least two people are displayed. a brand new lexus had this happen to it. a scaffolding collapse in san francisco crushed it. along with a few other cars. it happened this morning as construction crews were tearing down a building on gary street. workers say that a big chunk of concrete fell inside the partially destroyed building that pushed the wall outward and that knocked down a scaffolding. >> looks like there's three cars. one of them's a lexus, i think it's brand new. i think the girl bought it yesterday. and one is their own truck. >> the good news is nobody was hurt. surrounding streets were closed

for several hours while the construction crew cleaned up the mess. a treaty came down during the thursday's -- tree that came down during the storm on thursday is a tourist attraction. at least 25 feet in diameter with huge root system and people are coming by to take pictures of it and children have turned it into a playground. one woman didn't realize what happened until she saw it firsthand. >> i just wondered why the news trucks were here. i hadn't seen this yet. oh probably doing a story on the restaurant. and then when i saw what it was i said oh my god. everybody when they first see it they say oh my god. >> it's up to the city to remove the tree and no word on when that will happen. the sail winds wrought havoc in southern california last night. in pure toe ranch they brought down a 50-foot pine tree on top of a car. nobody was hurt but it was one of several trees toppled in the

allegedly sucker- punching a well, just when you thought it couldn't get any weirder a new york man has been arrested and charged with a hate crime for allegedly sucker punching a young jewish man in the face. police think that it might be related to the so-called knockout game. the object? to knock out an unsuspecting person with just one punch. in one new york city neighborhood at least seven attacks have happened in the past few weeks. including an assault on a 78- year-old woman. psychologists have weighed in. they think it's played mostly by teenage boys looking to impress their friends. >> they're doing this to get a thrill. to prove their manhood or womanhood. part of peer pressure and certainly they are followers

and not leaders. >> new jersey, pennsylvania and washington, d.c. are investigating similar recent enaccidents. well, first tablets and ereaders and smart devices. now phone calls? the fcc proposal would let travelers make calls with their cell phones during a flight. it was proposed once before in 2004 but the flight attendants' union was against it then and they're still against it. delta airlines has said even if phones are given the green light it will not allow passengers to make calls. >> i would allow the phone call as long as it's short and to the point. otherwise it would be better that they don't use their cell phone. >> even ahead of the fcc is uncertain. he sees the problem it could create but at the same time, says there is no technical reason to keep the ban. a warning from boeing about icing problems on etc. new dreamliner planes. the problem occurs mother thunderstorms at high altitudes and it can cause the engines to temporarily lose thrust. this has led to japan airlines

halting two international routes and it's one of 15 carriers that fly the dreamliners. boeing is working on a software fix. well for decades cars that drive themselves have been the stuff of science fiction or the distant future but as carter evans shows us the future is now. >> the next level of autonomous technology. cameras mounted up here. >> reporter: subaru's dominic inphantasies its new system may soon be standard equipment in the u.s.. he says the technology's been common in japan for almost a decade. >> if you don't hit the brakes in time, it's going to do it for you. >> exactly. it's an unusual feeling but as long as you have faith it will stop the car. >> reporter: this year, the insurance institute for highway safety added something new to its crash test. a category called crash avoidance. this test was at 25 miles per hour. subaru got top marks. auto tech journalist doug new comb says that with so many distractions on the road -- >> drivers become complacent. and that's the whole idea behind this technology is to look out for them when they're not paying attention. >> reporter: in traffic, this car can actually start itself. stop itself and basically be in stop and go traffic and drive you? >> that's exactly right. that's really one more step to the ability to have autonomous driving. >> reporter: dream that may

soon be a reality. >> fully autonomous up until exit. >> reporter: we're much closer the cars driving themselves than i think a lot of people imagined. >> reporter: carter evans, cbs news, los angeles. >> we are not even to thanksgiving. but christmas is in the air. ♪ >> a 60-foot tree was lit at pier 39 tonight as part of a weekend celebration. mickey mouse and friends are in town for the event which continues tomorrow. it also includes performances from local music groups and children can write letters the santa and get them decorated with the help of the postal service. up in the sierra this past week storm combined with some man made snow was enough to get the ski resorts open. heavenly started operations today a day later than it had planned. high winds kept it from opening up yesterday. north star also opened today. kirkwood says conditions are improving and it expects to open any day now. and on the subject of weather, there's not going to be any snow in the near future. nor will there be rain.

but in the medium future, yes. let's talk about what's happening now though. it will be a chilly night in the bay area tonight. that's pretty sight at the bay bridge -- at 8:00 tonight. santa rosa was 24 degrees cooler than it was last night. at that time. so things are really cooling off because the winds have abated and high pressure is building and with calm winds the dew points are up a little bit though and that's going to keep things from really tumbling. but we're going to get some frost tonight in some of the coldest places in the north bay. recover tomorrow to mid 60s for the most part in the bay area and look for plenty of sunshine for sunday. and that will hold true right through wednesday but look at what happens. we get cold turkey right on cue for thanksgiving day there's at least a chance of rain in the bay area. and temperatures on that day will only manage low 60s. so there's not a you know huge amount of certainty about the rain precisely on thanksgiving day and stay tuned. raiders are playing tomorrow. game time temps 65-degrees and satellite and radar, here's the

cold front. this low pressure is going to move into the desert southwest it's already creating snow out in the sang redechris toe mountains of new mexico and moving into north texas and then it will create havoc out on the -- well havoc it's going to rain. on the eastern seaboard for them as well. just in time for thanksgiving. and it's important because it is a big travel week. a lot of people taking to the air and taking to the roads. if you're going to do that in the next couple of days it's going to be nice in california. sunny for sunday and high pressure in full command for a while at least and here's what's next. tomorrow nice. dry through tuesday. then we're going to increase clouds and late wednesday night member some rain along the -- maybe some rain along the coast on the north bay and a chance of rain for everybody on thanksgiving. then by the weekend you know by next weekend we'll go back to sunshine. be cold tonight. 36-degrees in napa and 43 in san jose and fremont. if you're in the city down to 48-degrees and for tomorrow looking pretty good. temperatures in the 60s about where we should be for this time of the year. 66 at livermore and down in san jose 65 degrees.

65 for morgan hill as well. and up in fremont, 63. over at the coast, pacifica 62 degrees. mid 60s will doubt for the east bay as well. a lot of sun after a cool night tonight. north bay nice. mill valley, nice. 66 degrees. 65 at roanoke park and 60 at the tega bay. how about the far north? not bad. 67 depositions at windsor. 64 at lake port. extended forecast and looking for sunshine all over the place between now and tuesday. wednesday however, a cloud no bigger than a man's hand agains to blow up and increase the chance of rain for the north bay. by thursday we can get wet in the bay area and no sooner do we have that then we go the other direction. and dry it out for friday and saturday. and we're well behind where we should be at this time of the year for rainfall. and we're not going to have much to it on thursday. >> hopefully not too many people are traveling actually on thanksgiving. that's the problem. >> i'm going to my mother's. >> be careful. >> poor brian.

oakland has a new air traffic control tower. controllers say things will run more efficiently. >> and as don ford tells us it should make the airport a lot safer. >> reporter: it's 236 feet tall. costs a total of $51 million. it's oakland's brand spanking new airport traffic control tower. >> it's just going to be a marvelous addition to the airport. >> reporter: of course, there's the required ribbon cutting. >> okay -- shocked me. >> reporter: didn't go quite as planned but back to that later. this new control tower replaces two old control towers. one built in 1962 that originally had a restaurant halfway up. the other built in 1972 nearly 40 years ago. >> brand new tower. it's got the new car smell. >> reporter: air traffic controller juan bueller says working the old way with two towers was difficult. >> almost like we had to prepare meals out of two
