lines that are an hour long just to get into the stores here, allen. and that is just not half the story. the turkey was juicy and later, so were the deals at the livermore premium outlet. >> the boots look cute on you. >> the crowd big enough to make your head spin. lines stretched nearly as far as the day is long. all the way down the corridor here and wraps around the building. and the bags were stuffed as the bird of the day. >> don't want to wait until 10:00. >> shoppers were committed, if not a bit delirious. >> got leggings, leggings, and some, what's it called? mascara. >> tired and high on sugar. >> how much pie have you had? >> i only had two pieces. >> i've had like a full pie.

doors opened at the best buy in union city. now the stampedes -- not the stampedes we've seen before, but we wanted to speed it up to show you all the people that came through. if you're wondering, the number one guy in line said he had been there since monday morning, and forget sleeping in, these shoppers were up at 6:00 a.m. for k mart's opening. k mart plans to stay open for 41 hours straight until 11:00 p.m. tomorrow. and on every store has been bustling. old navy has been open since this morning. lots of stuff for sale, but not a lot of customers. that's the case in khol's. sharon. >> take a look, the lines here are long as well from this vantage point, it's hard to believe that just over half the people surveyed say they won't be shopping this four-day holiday. we found many people bicycling, jogging, and walking.

shop today. >> serving this day for friends and family. >> there's going to be plenty of shopping between now and christmas. >> some of the nay orstores refuse to open on thanksgiving. they include costco, marshalls, and t.j. max. nordstrom, and ross. >> well, this thanksgiving day shopping is banned in three states. in rhode island, maine, and massachusetts. they have laws going back to the colonial days which say that shopping on thanksgiving and christmas is illegal. live, kpix5. >> we have new video tonight from sacramento. a dump truck crashed into a house. this is at 7:15. an elderly woman was inside that home. fortunately, she was not hurt. no word on who was driving, but the chp is investigating whether alcohol was a factor in that crash. tonight, we're hearing from san jose neighbors who had the dodge crime scene tape on their way home for thanksgiving dinner.

here's why. this morning, police shot and killed a stabbing suspect in this quiet cul-de-sac on kirkland drive. hours later, people living there needed a police escort to go to and from their homes. kpix5 breaks down the three separate crime scenes involving a high speed chase, a carjacking, and several stabbings. >> this spanned two miles and crossed three neighborhoods. sean jose police say an officer shot and killed a drier driver. >> the gun shots took place, you know, bang, bang, bang, real fast. then there was the crash. >> the guy comes, boom. >> the car stopped short of crashing into michael fan's house. his family was getting ready for thanksgiving. next door neighbor who is deaf was doing the same when she witnessed the drama. >> but he drove over to the cop's car and went over to the

cop and the cop started shooting him and he didn't stop. he crashed into the tree. >> the violence began this morning when police say the man stabbed three people on loose avenue. ran across the street to a senior complex on north jackson and stole the van. darren fuller saw the carjacking. >> there's definitely a little bit of tees ling going on, you know, once the vehicle actually, before that, it was arguing more like, what are you doing? >> the crook then led police on a wrong way high speed chase on interstate 680 before he drove into this cul-de-sac. >> now i can take the whole family and have a happy thanksgiving. >> things are back to normal where all of this ended. police have not released the suspect's name. as for those three stabbing victims, they suffered serious, but not life threatening injuries and thankfully the elderly man wasn't injured. live in san jose, kpix5. >> it has been a violent 24

hours in san jose. two strait overnight shootings sent three people to the hospital. they are all expected to survive. no word on whether those shootings are connected. no arrest and no motives. >> speaking out for the first time since being set on fire. talked to kpix5's lynn. he has a lot to be thankful for today. >> it's sasha's second day home after spending three weeks after a hospital. he misses school, friends, and most of all, a sense of normalcy. >> it's nice to be home in my own house. >> especially on thanksgiving. the recovery both mentally and physically will take time. three surgeries, so far, the bandages on his legs make it hard to walk. >> i can't walk as fast and i need to be more careful physically. >> the teen suffered from second and third degree burns after someone lit his skirt on fire aboard a bus.

the latest crowd sourcing effort is mapping out surveillance cameras in several bay area neighborhoods. the website is meant to deter crime. kpix's kristen ayers went to find out if it's giving criminals an upper hand. >> carla knows what it's like to stair down the barrel of a criminal gun. >> i got robbed with a revolver. he had a revolver. >> man who robbed her in east oakland was never caught and she wonders if the new mapping website we showed her could have protected her. >> community cam is a free service for drentzs for residents to research security cameras in their area. >> users can pinpoint the location of every security camera they come across. >> we have seen users plot safe running, walking, and biking routes using community cam and we have also seen users

research activities or areas where something has occurred. >> already, they mapped 2,000 cameras in san francisco and the east bay. >> i think it's a good idea. >> they identified about a dozen surveillance cameras along this stretch of international alone. one of them right here. but critics say the site is nothing more than a road map for criminals. >> i don't think it's a good idea. >> he worries that community cam could backfire if criminals use it to target areas with little surveillance. the same concern oakland city council member told a nuke she has and daniels admits it's possible. >> the map could be used for malicious purposes, but we think the positive benefits far outweigh the negative. >> one more potential safety measure in an area that could use it. in oakland, kpix5. >> so far, community cam users have mapped out about 10,000

surveillance cameras nationwide. checking bay area headlines, this is the damage left behind after a high speed chase in santa rosa. police say two men took off after a routine traffic stop. blowing through red lights at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. the car smashed into that light pole and a fence, part of a house before bursting into flames. officers had to pull the driver out of the wreck. no word on what charges men might be facing. >> a coast guard helicopter had to rescue three people after their car plunged off an embankment. the car plunged just after midnight. a fourth person was able to get out and run up the road. speed or alcohol don't appear to be factors. >> volunteers of all ages got together in richmond to make sure the communities homeless had a warm holiday meal. they cooked quite the spread at the bay area rescue mission. all the usual menu items, the turkey, the mashed potatoes,

gravy, and pie. >> i find people are very appreciative. we find out there are people that come, sometimes people are new to the community. sometimes people have been in the community for a long time. our goal is to serve. we are serving the community. >> the bay area rescue mission has been cooking meals and providing shelter for almost 50 years. you thought you had to cook a big feast, the folks needed 500 volunteers to fix at least 5,000 meals for the needy. we found one volunteer who drove from sacramento to help out. both dinner and breakfast were served today. by the way, they need volunteers to serve meals tomorrow. soldiers may be far from home this thanksgiving, but the department of defense sent turkey overseas. there was stuffing, cranberry sauce, and much more. >> one family spending time

flying. handlers kept a tight leash on snoopy and flew them lower, which was better for parade watchers. the balloons almost stole the show. >> new yorkers not the only ones braving a morning chill. >> about 25,000 people in downtown san jose started their thanksgiving running or walking for a good cause. the turkey trot is one of the biggest in the nation. over the years, it raised more than $3.5 million for local charities. this is the turkey trot's ninth year in san jose. >> thanksgiving has become a tradition for car buffs. the big ticket items on display weren't for sale. for many, jumping behind the wheel of their dream ride was enough even if it was that sponge bob man. the auto show opened with hundreds of new vehicles from 38 manufactures. a couple have price tags of $500,000 plus. i'm looking for new and exciting stuff to see.
