capture of jamal dean, his confederates with whom he robbed two people violently and everyone who made the sad mistake of trying to assist him after he shot officer kevin mccormick." tim: after years of tracking, investigating and prosecuting... the case against jamal dean and his accomplices is finally closed. tim: good eveing and thank you for joining us tonight im tim seaman jenna: and im jenna rehnstrom it's been more than two and a half years since jamal dean ramped up his gang activity in sioux city, eventually leading to him shooting a sioux city police officer.. then running from authorities. tim: since then, dean, along with more than a dozen people who helped him with his crimes have been tracked down, arrested and now, brought to justice. earlier this afternoon, the case officially wrapped up. abc9's rachael krause joins us now with the latest. rachael after more than two years, dozens of arrests and countless hours of work, the final two co- conspirators

involved with jamal dean have been sentenced... officially bringing a close to a case that nearly took the life of a sioux city police officer. federal prosecutor forde fairchild says the trouble with jamal dean started with gang violence back in march of 20- 13... continuing and eventually leading to the shooting of sioux city police officer kevin mccormick that april. it fueled the manhunt that eventually brought dean to justice. more than two years later, the case officially closed tuesday with the sentencing of dean's last two co- conspirators. "being a small part of the team that brought jamal dean to justice and convinced everyone who helped him that it was a mistake and a criminal mistake to help him, that's as good a thing as i'll probably ever accomplish professionally," said forde fairchild, federal prosecutor. thirteen in all were charged in connection to dean's crimes, but the final two co- conspirators... evette morris- hernandez and estebanhernandez were both sentenced tuesday, given prison time for their role in the case. but instead of remembering the bad, investigators and prosors are honoring the bravery of one sioux city officer. "i would also like to mention kevin mccormick, who is my hero. i have watched this video repeatedly and i still become very emotional, and very

proud of his service to our community," mccormick said. more than two years after being shot in the face by dean, mccormick says he still loves being with the police, but he's glad to put this all behind him. "relieved in many ways, but i suppose that just to know that 'this was it', that we can now move on and begin focusing on the other bad guys and bad gals out there," said kevin mccormick, sioux city police officer shot by jamal dean. others echoed that sentiment, saying they fsioux city is now safer because the dean case is finally closed. rachael everyone involved in the case said today they felt very relieved to know this case was officially closed... and glad to know anyone helping jamal

two years ago has finally been brought to justice. reporting live... tim: tonight what happens in vegas, certainly won't stay in vegas. for the first time, democratic candidates for president debated the issues at length. the 5 candidates gathered at the wynn casino in vegas. hillary clinton entered the night leading bernie sanders by a sizeable margin in most national polls ... with lincoln chaffe, jim webb and martin o'malley far behind. unlike previous republican debates that featured plenty of personal attacks... tonight's session stayed close to the issues including talk on gun control.... a subject that sparked a heated exchange. "hillary clinton says " everybody else has to be accountable but not the gun manufactors. we need to stand up and say enough of that were not going to let it continue. bernie sanders says " i come from a rural state the views on gun control are differnt in rural states than in urban states weather we like it or not.

hillary clinton and martin o'malley supporters hosted watch parties this evening. jenna: clinton supporters stated that they looked forward to hearing her stance on social and economic issues. while o'malley supporters believe that he has a proven track record to become the nominee. supporters at hillary's watch party were energetic, cheering on the former secretary of state from afar. and while o'malley is farther behind in the polls, his watch party was making noise... pushing for their candidate to see a boost in numbers, thanks to snappy answers in the debate. kum & go is going up along gordon drive. the convience store is at the interection of gordon and virginia, which has been undergoing major renovations to make way for changes to i-29 in that area. a couple years ago, the train depot was torn down on that corner. there's only one other gas station in that area of the downtown. no word yet on when kum & go will open. jenna: a local breast cancer non-profit hopes their new location will let more people know they're here to help. susan g. komen for the cure siouxland held a ribbon cutting this morning for its new office on nebraska street in downtown sioux city. they moved back in january, but waited until now to mark the occassion in honor of national breast cancer awareness month. executive director kristi quinn hopes this more visible location will encourage more people to use their resources. "what are real hope is that more people who have questions and more people who have concerns about breast cancer will stop by, they'll call, they'll learn to look to us for someone who can help." says kristi quinn,executive director of the susan g. komen of

siouxland. susan g. komen siouxland is open monday through friday from 9am to 4pm. monday through friday from 9am to 4pm. tim: haunted houses usually contain props such as chainsaws, zombies, or skeletons, but west middle school has added a new element... technology. sixth through eigth graders are working on a project called haunted hallways. it showcases their technical skills in areas like graphic design, editing and more. "the haunted hallways is a rear screen projection project where the kids take videos and then add green screen effects to them. to basically add special effects to a video such as smoke, lighting, explosions, all kinds of different things," said borrall. the way he's gng to do it is he's going to put them up on projects and we're going to show our projects in the haunted hallways," said huls. viewing of the projection project is open to the public and

runs october 23rd and 24th at west middle school from six to eight p.m. admission is one dollar ahead of time and two dollars on the day of the event. jenna: inmates at the south dakota state penitentiary in yankton are gaving back to the community with a fall tradition. nat sound: children shouting: "thank you!", inmates respond: "your welcome, guys!" the inmates grew and harvested pumpkins and now, they're delivering them to elementary school students. in a season when pumpkin numbers are down, the donation comes at a great time.... helping to ensure kids have pumpkins to carve for halloween. the inmates say the best part is seeing huge smiles on the kids faces.
