" a simple test for a middle school science fair project didn't worry eighth grade math teacher michelle gearhart. two students asked to place an automatic cuff on her upper arm to read her blood pressure as part of the data collection phase of their project. the digital display screen read 196/110, categorized as a hypertensive crisis by the american heart association, meaning gearhart needed emergency care. gearhart later asked a school nurse to verify the results, who recommended she call a doctor. after two days of testing, doctors are still working to discover what's causing the high numbers, but prescribed medication to help control the levels. as for the students behind the project, gearhart said their data may have saved her life - something the two eighth grade students didn't expect. a

were showing a good deal of suport for biden's potential run. tim: biden's decision to not run is affecting poll numbers. an abc news/washington post poll released yesterday showed early democratic caucus voters would favor hillary clinton if biden didn't rn. with 64 per-cent of pollers siding with the former secretary of state. 25 per-cent say they'd vote for bernie sanders. tim: atop the polls, hillary clinton payed tribute today to the vice president after he announced he would not run for president on her twitter page, the democratic frontrunner called biden a "good man" and a "great vice president". clinton said she was always inspired by biden's optimism and commitment to change the word for the better. jenna: however it wasn't all kind words on twitter today. republican candidate bobby jindal used the opportunity to [bash] the democratic side of the race tweeting quote " democrats are now left with a socialist or a candidate under fbi investigation. let's embrace our conservative principles, and we will win."

jenna: g-o-p candidate and new jersey governor chris christie was in iowa today. christie made a campaign stop in newton this afternoon to speak at a town hall event. he'll also be in des moines for a private campaign appearance at six tonight. tim: and the republican candidates keep on rolling into iowa, today donald trump was in burlinton for a campaign rally, one of three stops across america this week. and according to a local trump staffer, next tuesday, the businessman will be right here in sioux city. will be at west o'clock. doors will open at four. jenna: on his way out of the capitol, speaker of the house, john announced the house will vote for a new speaker by the end of next week the leading candidate wisconsin congressman paul ryan has decided that he would accept the position, but has several conditions if elected: he wants time for his family and he wants every republican

in the house to back him. ryan: we need to do this as a team and it needs to include fixes that ensure we do not experience constant leadership challenges in crises. still, members of the freedom caucus which helped to push out speaker boehner say they have reservations about some of ryan's conditions for taking job. ryan has given his colleagues until friday to express their support. without full support, the one- time vice presidential nominee says he will remain in his current post as chairman of the ways and means committee. tim: hundreds of people are expected for an event this weekend honoring local members of the law enforcement community. as part of saturday's briar cliff and morningiside football game, city, county, state and federal officers are being honored at a free tailgate party at olsen stadium. the event begins at 10:30 in the stadium's west parking lot. officers eat free, there is a small $5 fee for others who attend. a parking shuttle will run from transit plaza to the stadium begining at 10am

three officers will recieve special recognition prior to the football game.. sioux city officers jill fitch and kevin mccormick were both shot in the line of duty and are now back on duty..... meanwhile the family of rockwell city officer jamie buenting also will be honored. officer beunting died in the line of duty in 2013. tim on cam organizers are expecting a large crowd on saturday and encourage people to take advantage of a free shuttle service. shuttles will leave from the transit plaza parking lot, at the corner of transit and vine avenues, every 15 minutes beginning at 10am. that shuttle service runs through 4:30pm . "as far as parking is concerned there is neighborhood parkign and onstreet parking around, but we are really encouraging people to park at the transit parking area and use the free shuttles . obviously this is a bog rivalry between mornignside and briar cliff so we expect a lot of people to show up," said ann westra of the city of sioux city." tim: kickoff for the mornginside briar cliff game is one oclock jenna:

this morning a couple of musketeer fans going through a tough time got a chance to meet players from their favorite team. players from the sioux city hockey team stopped by unity point health saint luke's this morning to meet patients, sign autographs and talk to fans at the hospital. it's something players says is more rewarding than netting a goal on the ice. jacob wilson, sioux city musketeer player says, "i mean it's more than just a hockey game. we're trying to make people feel important, and give back to the community as much as we can." and for patients at the hospital, the stop by the hockey players was just what the doctor ordered. "i run my days really positive, but this is a nice thing. i just got out of having a test and getting ready for breakfast and all of a sudden these young men come in and they're making right decisions, and it was quite enjoyable and it was fun. i've never had this experience before." you have a couple chances to see the musketeers this weekend. they take on des moines at home this friday and then also play in town saturday for pink in the rink.

tim: toyota announced it's recalling six- and-a-half million cars globally to fix power window switches that can short circuit and catch fire tim: the automaker said the driver's side switches on some models have been found to malfunction if they did not receive enough grease during the manufacturing process. it received 11 reports of burnt door trim, and one report of a customer who burned their hand. the affected cars were produced between 2005 and 2010, and include toyota's yaris, corolla, matrix, camry and several other models. jenna: a boil order for the town of cushing iowa has been lifted. the local well there has been repaired and is back in use. according to town officials it's no longer necessary for residents to boil water there before use. tim: sioux city officials are advising residents how they can properly dispose of fall foliage. they're reminding everyone that leaves and other yard debris
