im tim seaman jenna: and im jenna rehnstrom. here's a startling fact. one out of every six elderly americans... will be the target of a financial scam. tim:if you're caring for an aging loved one... that's a scary thought. so, how do you protect them? jenna: bria bell tells us about a new effort underway in iowa. she's live in studio. bria: that's right. the iowa attorney general's office is enhancing state policies to protect senior citizens. and, here in sioux city... one local organization is trying to education seniors and their loved ones. anyone can fall victim to a well crafted scam, but in places like sioux city where the elder population is higher...makes them more susceptible. the siouxland center for active generations is trying to combat these crimes by offering informational workshops. "education and vigilance. we have...every wednesday we have a talk show where we

bring in speakers to inform our members and the general public," said santi. the efforts that this center provides is what santi calls a team effort, because not every scam that occurs goes noticed. "more fraud happens in the community than what we're aware of, than what the police are aware of, than what the siouxland ceceer for active generations oror connections area, or agencies on aging or any of the e cial network groups are aware. if it happens, one times is too many," said santi. types of scams that con artists partake in arehone calls pretending to be relativeu, fake mail flyers requesting donations for charities, health care or contracting schemes. senior citizens can protect their wallets by making sure that their purchases are valid...verifying any money sent to donations, keeping a strong social network by communicating with friends...as well as not letting a person or organization force you into making a financial decision. on the state level... sisix city representative chris hallllays protecting seniors is somethingthey'r'ractively keepinintabs on, about what's important. incremental stepu. it's somethinghat we've considered with strong input from older iowans, and in particular the hall. is also working to by incorporating emotional abuse, as

"we think about it every day because ultimately, the land goes to my children, and this is my wife's family farm, andndt's sacred ground. i don't think people realize how near and dear the soil is to the farmer that farms is" says bill luetkeman, landowner." bill, who was listed in the suit, says the compensation he's been offered by dakota access is written vaguely and in favor of the company. it also doesn't include environmental insurance, which could lead to more lawsuits for farmers if there are leaks that damage their land. tim on cam three state ecutives who cocoete against each other when trying to land new business, came together today in the name of work force development. iowa governor terry branstad, nebraska governor pete

"we need to work to help adults find newskills or complete new degrees that give them the skills. we need to encourage our young people to understand the career opportunities that are available right here in siouxland. training our own probably won be enough we need to recruit workers form other arere where job opportunities are not as good," said south dakota governor dennis daugaard. financial incentives, are one of the most common tools used to help attract new business. whether from tax rebates, forgivable loans or tax credits, all three states offer millions in aid. but the governors agree it takes more than that to keep new
