farming. he says.... it was a priviledge. this small town nebraska farmer is back on his land after a whirlwind trip to washington d-c where he was honored for being a pioneer in his field. "there's other people like us out there too, they want things to happen... to make things better for the future and i felt very privivedged to be one of those people. what a great time!" says martin kleinschmit, braska farmer honored in washington d.c. for his efforts as an educator of sustainable farming. martin kleinschmit from hartington is one of twelve farmers from across the nation who's been named a "champion of change" by the white house. since 1996, martin has been educating other farmers in his area about sustainable farming.. "as a group too, they learn what practices to use, what rotations work, what don't, so we can share experiences with one another, and that way not everybody has to make the same mistake. and so this way they can speak and they can ask the dumb questions and not get ridiculed, because everybody was asking those questions, so it was a safe environment to learn under" says martin kleinschmit. they tried grazing, crop rotation, and cover crops... all ways to keep carbon in the ground. he says it's not only important for healthy soil and fruitful crops, but needed to fight climate change. problem and it's up inthe air, it's all the excess carbon that's up there. so if we could grab that carbon and put it in the ground, wee going to help mitigate some of the extremes we've seen from carbon, from climate change. and it will benefit the soil at the same time. it's a win- win" says martin kleinschmit. martin is retired now, but he's passing along his passion to the younger generations. and they'r'rexcited to seeeeim honored for what he loves. thier agency. today (thursday) everything from balls to sticks and bags was available for pickup, providing kids with activity they might not otherwise get. " ""it means alot to us because some of this stuff we don't even have at the club, it's exciting.like i haven't even played with some of this stuff. i don't think i evered play golf and i want to learn." says 13 year old ernesto hernandez. "it is amazing what our community does do and the support it has for the non- profits in town. it really is a great community to be a part of." says jeff florke, chairman of the executive e committee of the young leaders society at united way. florke says the idea for the "equipment drive" came from members of the young leaders group who's own children had outgrown the equipment. jenna: its national cat day and uber is helping folks celebrate uber drivers delivered these kittens to the news room at our sister station in des moines. for a fee of 30 dollars, you get 15 minutesesf playtime witit these tiny felines. uber offered the service across the country and in canada to help support
