pruning large tree branches? melinda's got the answers for you... " late winter, after the worst of winter weather has passed through early spring before growth begins, is a great time to prune trees. make proper cuts to insure the health and longevity of your plants. use the three-cut method when removing large branches. this prevents trunk damage caused by the weight of the branch ripping it and the bark off the tree. make your first cut about one foot away from the trunk. cut from the bottom moving upward about 1/3 of@the way through the branch. next cut downward from the top of the branch several inches beyond the first cut. as the branch starts to fall, it will break away at the first cut. this prevents damage to the trunk. the third and final cut is made flush

wait until you see today's secret ingredient. it's something you probably love, but would never think to use the way we are today. here's howard with more " you know quite often ingredients get so closely associated with one dish that it's hard to think of them used in any other way. let's take pepperoni for example, most likely, when we hear the word pepperoni the first thing most of us thinkf is pizza. well today we're using it in a different way that comes from our new cookbook and is it ever good. we start off by seasoning
11:48 am
some boneless skinless chicken breasts with a bit of salt and pepper before sauting them in olive oil. after a few minutes, when they're golden on both sides, we take them out and set them aside while we add a can of cream of chicken soup, some half and half and some chopped tomatoes. now for the stuff that gives this dish a ton of flavor, we add in some sliced pepperoni, that we've quartered, along with a few off-the- elf spices. we'll let that simmer fofoa bit before adding the chicken back in and cookokg it until it's done and all the goodness from the sauce begins to soak in. this is one of those dishes that when someone tries it they know it's good, but they can't figure out exactly why.t's the pepperoni of course! i do hope you'll go online and get the recipe for our, "skillet pepperoni chicken," along with more information about our new cookbook that's a must-have for the holidays. i bet you're dying to know what it's called. i'm howard in the mr. food test kitchen, where today we found a "secret ingredient way" for you to say . "ooh it's so good!!"" jessica rae: coming up after the break... we'll have a
