over the weekend the tribe decided to put a hold on their operation. stopping production of marijuana and burning close to two million dollars worth of the plant. tim: kelly smith was in flandreau over the weekend and brings us more.. " flandreau, s.d. - with less than two months till the country's first marijuana smoking lounge was scheduled to open its doors, the flandreau santee sioux tribe has scrapped the plan. tribal attorney seth pearman says the tribe has suspended its plan and ordered their police force to burn all of the marijuana they were growing, which was worth millions of dollars. from the moody county sheriff to the south dakota's attorney general, many people have voiced their concerns about the tribe legalizing marijuana on the reservation. "i was afraid of the violence going on up here, crime," flandreau resident mike yeakey said. the tribe released a statement saying they wanted to suspend their efforts to get clarification from the federal government. attorney general marty jackley says it's a confusing topic. "the federal government

creating complex tribal laws and then making determinations if it is or isn't going to enforce certain laws which has really created the problem. so i never blamed this on tribal authorities or the tribal jurisdiction. this whole problem rests in the hands of the federal government," jackley said. tribal executive kenny weston commented on ksfy's facebook saying the suspension will last 30 days at the most, but some are hoping for it to be longer. "i believe if they can find a reason medically they need it go for it, but if it's just, 'hey it'll make us money and help us enjoy life,' i just don't know," yeakey explained. jackley says pausing production was a step in the right direction. "i think it's the best thing for tribal and non- tribal members that the tribe makes this a more permanent decision and we find other ways that will help the tribe financially. there are other opportunities that don't create some of these legal challenges," he said. pearman made it clear in a statement he released saturday that the tribe only wants this to be a suspension and eventually wants to successfully participate in the marijuana industry. businesses near lewis boulevard here in sioux city have been struggling with apparent road closures over the last week. tim: that's because of work going on with one of the railroads. but business owners aren't too happy about it. tim: since november second, railroad construction is to blame for several signs blocking roads near the intersections springdale drive, 28th and 31st streets. but not everyone was on board when the railroad deployed those signs. jenna: abc9's elisa raffa is standing by live by those road closures, elisa, what can you tell us? elisa:

31st and springdale drive, just one side of the city tells me this road has been closed since november 2nd but no one ever they were closing with. that has the city and local business owners frustrated. burlington fe, the railroad runs the rail along lewis blvd has closed the intersection at 31st street. however, they didn't propey notify the city of the closure. bnsf uses a third party company, road safe, to communicate construction and closures to the city, but that message never got sent from road safe to the city. "we need to have notification because then we don't have an opportunity to review their detour sign plans at all, and so that's a big issue" says jill wanderscheid, neighborhood services manager, elisa: the city says it's
