influential iowa lawmaker says he's backing senator ted cruz for president. republican congressman steve king made his announcement this morning in des moines. he says cruz is the one candidate who will fight unapologetically for conservative principles. " i can tell you from personal experience the candidate i'll endorse does listen, and he does think and he's always grounded on our basic shared values. and the candidate i'll be endorsing knows how to act when it's time to act. i believe ted cruz is the candidate who is the answer to my prayers. a candidate whom god will use to restore the soul of america." tim: he praised the

king a "courageous conservative" and one of the "few truly principled men and women" in washington. tim: you may not believe it but thanksgiving is only ten days away... and christmas is just around the corner... for many, not only do they need to prep the turkey but their game plan for black friday shopping. jenna: siouxland stores have already seen increased traffic, our elisa raffa checked in on a few today and has more. elisa it's that time of the year to shop till you drop... whether it be to take advantage of great deals or cross people off your christmas list. siouxland stores have been prepping for black friday for months. some preparing to see customers as early as thanksgiving, while others will be closed. it's that time of the year again... thanksgiving turkeys, christmas trees... and you guessed it... lots of shopping. local siouxland stores say they've been prepping for months, making sure they are fully

staffed and ready to greet customers on black friday. but some stores are even open on thanksgiving. "it's time to shop on thanksgiving! they do their dinners early so they can get to the stores and get those good deals. people do wait outside, so we're anticipating that this year as well" says amber dowd, senior team leader, target. target will be open from 6 pm on thanksgiving, through the night and into normal business hours on black friday. target's best black friday seller tvs. store managers say those go like hot cakes, but this year they're antcipating the apple watch to fly off the shelves too. while shoppers make their way for electronics and toys at target, those waiting for deals at pier one can shop online thursday, and head into the stores friday. pier one will be closed on thanksgiving, but open at 8 am on friday. "it's going to be a great morale booster for our associates. they'll have a lot of time off to spend with their friends and family, so they'll be able to come in on friday and feel refreshed and excited and geared

up to help all of our great customers" says andrea mann, store manager, pier 1 imports. pier one says their holiday merchandise is always a customer favorite, but items like hand painted ornaments sell fast as customers cross people off their christmas list. "we're always excited to have more peoplen the store. it's so fun to help people decorate their homes and get them ready for their gift giving and entertaining, even just giving them that little personalized touch to make their holiday a little brighter" says andrea mann, store manager, pier 1 imports. elisa kohls, old navy, and best buy are some of the other store that will be starting black friday on thanksgiving. and don't forget... you don't even have to get up from the couch! great deals expected on cyber monday as well. reporting live in studio, elisa raffa.. abc9 news jenna: expect to see all 5 of sioux city's swimming pools open again next summer. that's the recomendation from a "pools committee" examining the long term future of sioux city swimming pools. that committee has been meeting for months, but until today had not offered an official plan. in a unanimous vote, the committee also

wants to see 3 city pools closed after next year. here's the breakdown.... replace leeds and cook pools with splash pads after 2016 season. replace leif erikson with a splash pad when it's no longer operational. built in 1977, engineers say leif erikson pool is sinking and would need to be rebuilt. meanwhile the committee is recomending the city look for a future pool site on the northside. the group also wants to close lewis pool.... but not until a new regional water park is built on the city's east side. riverside pool already includes some water park options and would remain open according to the plan. jenna on cam the pools committee plans to hold a public meeting on the plan in the first week of december but a date has not been set. park and rec director matt salvatore says the plan still could be adjusted after that meeting. the plan will be presented for council approval at a later date tim: construction crews have been

to unload the first big addition to the launch pad childrens musuem. beginning at 9:00 a-m crews began unloading a truck that contained a climbing wall. this is the first exhibit the childrens musuem has received, and they look forward to receiving the rest of their exhibits over the next couple of months. valerie petersen the outreach director for the launch pad says everyone is looking forword to working in the new musuem. jenna: and still to come tonight we'll take a look at some of the best ways to stay healthy with the holidays coming up. we're about to get around an inch of rain! fred hexom fhexom@kcautv.c om (fred) rain totals so far today around most of siouxland were a quarter to a third of an inch. here's a look at the dreary picture on the port neal welding company skycam hd in sioux city from the ho chunk centre. clouds, mist, and fog are seen. the high was 55 and the low 51. the king's pointe skycam hd shows wee weather in storm lake. in sioux city, 53 is the temperature. local temperatures are in the 50s for the most part. dew points are in the 50s, too, so relative humidity values a 90-100 percent. visibility is reduced by fog and rain, and we have visibility in sioux from the southeast hour. look at the warm air in kansas and nebraska from cold air around denver. that front is bringing rain and snow to a broad area west of us. in fact, a blizzard warning is in effect for the denver area. over a foot of snow could fall with strong winds. the

healhty lifestyle, jenna: but what do you do when faced with all of those temptations of treats? some tips for you holidays your healthy track record! rae: traveling, especially this time of year, can be but however you plan on visiting loved ones, plan ahead, be prepared, don't ruin your heatlhy eating pattern. mercy dietician stephanie small, has a good reminder, for all us, as we begin the holiday season... stephanie small: "remember thanksgiving will come again next year so it isn't going to be the only time that you'll be able to enjoy that food." for starters, if you're family is hitting the road this thanksgiving... dig out the cooler. small: "if you are on the road maybe you even have an option to pack a small cooler or a little lunch bag where you could even string cheeses, or yogurts, and then make sure to throw the bottled or any other non calorie beverages in there too!" but what if you're family is taking to the skies...? small: "if you're able to pack snacks you could always pack things like your granola bars, trail mixes, you know dried fruit, things there are some veggies that travel well too, like bananas and apples."
