local native american community. that's why officals from both law enforcement and native american leaders met at a town hall meeting. but first, a look at the numbers. jenna: through september of this year, nearly half of sioux city arrests have been native americans. that's on track with last year and e numbers in 2013. compare that to the fact that native americans make up 2-3 percent of the sioux city population. another tough statistic... many of those arrests are repeat offenders. jenna back on cam: our elisa raffa has more about a new effort hoping to address the trend. elisa we've known that native americans have suffered from alcoholism, often getting into scuffles with law enforcement, but what was eye opening about today's town hall meeting.. was that this problem is more than just substance abuse and homelessness. some native americans have called it a way of dealing with historical trauma. it was a town hall meeting that began with a ceremonial blessing and prayer as officals from both law

community gathered at four directions community center in sioux city on monday. the issue at the forefront... concerns about public intoxication amongst the native american community, as the two entities came together to discuss both problems and solutions, "i'm going to simply say that i believe that those in the public and private trusts who wororon recovery need to nnect with our native community. i do not think they're doing the job that they would wish to do" says frank lamere, director four directions center. frustrations were even expressed by law enforcement. the woodbury county sheriff says that we got punishment down, we need to work on rehabilitation, detox centers instead of 30 days of jail time.. but those kinds of changes cannot be made without state legislature. "i get somewhat frustration... i'm the sheriff and chief young is the chief, we are law enforcement but the ones that make legislative change should be at some of these meetings and when you don't see them it becomes a source of frustration for all of law enforcement because we're the ones dealing with it" says sheriff dave drew, woodbury county. members of the native american community spoke out at the m mting, about their own

many are trying to get their cars in shape for trips out of town. but this year ... it's not just the typical holiday rush. with friday's snow storm hitting some drivers hard many needed repairs from accidents. body shops... like ron piepers (peep-ers) had to deal with an extra amount of work. and it was not just about getting the cars done. "i have looked at probably 3 times as may cars as what i i usually would on a nday. i have actutuly looked at a couple of carand just made them drivable for the people so that they could have the repairs than after the holidays and not be without their car.
