who have the and he never wants to forget the chanans that he's made. jacob peklo brings us more terry gable remembers hitting rock bottom. terry gable, intake coordinator: "while sitting in eight days of jail, i decided i'd had enough of that old life, and wanted something new." after battling an addiction to drugs and alcohol, he joined the program at h he ministries, designed to help people get their lives back on track. terry gable,ntake coordinator: "after turning my life over, it completely changed. it transformed my whole life for me and my family." now, six years after first volunteering to work here, he's got a full time job. and when he sees more than 200 other people giving their time on this thanksgiving day, he knows firsthand how it can make a big difference. terry gable, intake coordinator: "i came here and ate, myself, when i was running around the street, a lot, when i was living out of my car." bob myers, volunteer: "you get a good enjoyment personally, but there is a need. we see it in our home town, we see it all

around." volunteerst hope ministries woke up early thursday to prepare and box hundreds of meals. so thankful, not only for the warm food, but the company, that people get dressed up and they come in. it's not kitchen, it's more volunteer: "it's kind you go out and help people, and they're you're kind of making their day, and they don't realize how much they're actually making your day." gabel knows it's love that he's back on his feet. coordinator: "a good, good hot encouragement and words, that kind of thing can really perspective and outlook on life." the volunteers at hope ministries delivered more than 2-thousand meals across the des moines area today. they also prepared dinner for more than four hundred. tim on cam: if you're e aded the nebrasas-iowa

football game in lincoln tomorrow, get am early start. nebraska state patrol is recomending folks headed to memorial stadium tomorrow to allow extra time for driving due to the large ammount of people out on the road for football, holiday and black friday shoppers. officals say one of the most congested areas could be the i-80 of the most congested areas could be the i-80 exit 432. tim: the cornhuskers are hoping to play spoiler tomorrow... ending iowa's perfect season. but for those of you headed out to memorial stadium for the hy-vee heroes gam there may be some things you want to keep in mind. the game is scheduled to kick off at 2:30pm tomorrow, but due to an increase in security officials are asking fans to show up to memorial stadium a bit earlier. big bags or backpacks are not being allowed in the stadium and officials are encouraging folks to keep other unecessary items at home or in the car. students planning on attending the

heroes game say the added security efforts at memorial stadium are welcome, especially due to some of the recent threats world. and if you're planning on watching the game, be sure to tune in to abc9 tomorrow we'll have extended coverage of the heroes game between iowa and nebraska. again, kick off will be at 2:30pm tim: despite the cold and wet weather, hundreds of metro area runners kicked off their thanksksving festivitieiewith the annual turkey trot in downtown des moines. it started on court avenue a little after 9 this morning. runners then ran through the ea village near the capitol and back. most runners said they were out in the cold so they could start the holiday on the right foot. "the beauty of a thanksgiving morning event is that it gives people a reason to come out to be healthy before taking on all the calories of the day it also gives people an opportunity to show their town we have 38 states represented to me that says people are coming in to visit family " runners got a free tshirt and

well as a free all you can eat pancake breakfast to start the thanksgiving festivities. tim: governor branstad joined members of the plymouth congregational united church of christ earlier today to deliver a proclamation. branstad was surrounded by the clergy, deacons, and choir members who dressed in authentic pilgrim costumes to celebrat thanksgiving day. she is just one of thousands of american troops getting a taste of home this year. the department of defense says this year it shipped out about 52 thousand pounds of turkey to bases around the world. it can take up to three months for the supplies to arrive at some remote locations. the defense logistics agency says along with the turkey...it shipped out over 25-thousand pounds of beef, 17-thousand pounds of ham, 7- hundred gallons of eggnog and d over 3-thousand pounds of marshmallows. tim: the ho chunk centre is fully the ho chunk the holidays! the 23rd annual festival of trees is currently underway in the atrium of the ho- chunk center in down town sioux city. from the silent auction benifit the siouxland group. stop in and admire through december 3rd at center. m: christmas trtrs south dakota state capitol in pierre. the 2015 grand lighting ceremony holiday season at the capitol.

the capitol christmas display includes nearly 100 trees that are decorated by volunteers from communities, schools, churches, nonprofit organizations and state government offices. this year's theme is "christmas around the world." the largest tree in the capitol is a 29-foot colorado blue spruce that had to be trimmed just to fit inthe capitol. tim: still to come tonight... if you feel that your jaw hurts you, it might be a symptom of somethg treatable. and all that's riding on it is the fact that it's senior day for nebraska. the husker senior class has had an eventful career to say the least, including a 33-18 record, three bowl appearances and a change in the athletic department as well as on the sidelines. jack gangwish--"there isn't a lot of romance in college football, you know? it's results-driven, you know, you've gotta perform. you've gotta go out there and do well, especially at a place like nebraska." chris palmququt--"that's something these seniors know all too well. last year's 9-3 regular season led to bo pelini's firing and the difficult situation of having a new head coach in mike reilly for just one year. kevin williams--"with the coaching change like this, that's a lot of times, the senior class is the one that handles it the hardest, you know? and i feel like we did a really good job this year with handling the situation and not getting too flustered or angry with the situation and just dealing with it and making the most of it." mike riley--"seniors on this team, that's probably in a transition, that's probably the hardest group, right? they'veveeen here the longest, they've been with the former coaoaes the longest. so i would d say that we haveve been able to function well through some hard times because of the stability of that group." chris palmquist--"that
