chance for discounted items during small business saturday. abc 9's bria bell is in studio with more... bria: lukas, shoppers were able to get clothes, shoes, accessories, treats and more for a fraction of the price today. business owners in le mars say that today is huge for them becuase it lets them know folks who enter their stores are loyal and care about where the city's dollars go. "clothing boutique owners of bad habit and sugar and spice were all too excited today. they say the experience that customers receive while shopping in their stores is what prides them on being small businesses. "shopping small you get unique gifts or things you're not going to find in big box stores. i think if you are shopping small, you're finding gifts or finding items that you're not going to find any where else," said pippett. some of the local businesses had online deals as well, catering to customers who purchase from out of state. all of the business owners that i spoke to today said they

were appreciative of the number people who did come out to show support. live in studio, bria bell abc 9 news. lukas details are emerging after yesterday's deadly shooting at a colorado springs planned parenthood clinic. one police officer is dead and six others were shot. stephanie elam has the latest on the investigation. " " (nats full/police dispatch) "we just took fire through the window. one of the s.o. (sheriff's office) guys got hit in the leg. he's code 4, we're going to extract him" "once they extract this guy, you might be able to get a sniper shot through this open window" "he just shooting indiscriminately through the walls and that's how we got hit." tense moments at a planned parenthood clinic in colorado springs... as two civilians and a police officer are killed in a nearly six hour standoff. it ended when the gunman finally gave up. (lt. catherine buckley, colorado springs police) "we did get officers inside of the building at the planned parenthood. and the officers were able to shout to the suspect and make communication with him. and at that point, they were able to get him to surrender and take him into custody." one of the dead -- 44 year old officer garrett swasey -- worked for the university of colorado... he apparently rushed to the scene from the campus - 10 miles away. two more victims have not been identified... five police officers and four other civilians were injured in the attack - including one man who was waiting in a

parked car. (ozy licano, shooting survivor) he was aiming at me so i hit the gas and he just started shooting and i was looking at his face. then the shots came through the glass and i started bleeding. a law enforcement official confirms to cnn that the suspected gunman is 57-year old robert lewis dear. bomb experts are making sure he didn't leave behind any explosive devices - inside or outside the clinic.. (lt. catherine buckley, colorado springs police) once the suspect was taken out of the building, our process is to go through and clear the building room by room and then we turn it into a crime scene." and as the investigation into his motive goes on... police are being credited with saving lives by using security cameras to keep track of the gunman and those trapped inside... (sot/mayor john suthers, colorado springs, co) the officers were monitoring movement within the building on security cameras and communicating to the officers who were in the building and it was the most incredible work on behalf of officers trying to minimize the number of fatalities." lukas we're also learning more

victims of the shooting. two civilians and one police officer with the university of colorado were killed. and while we don't have any information on the civilians...we do know more about the 44- year-old officer that was killed. garrett swasey was a husband, a father of two ... and was once a champion ice skater. he's described as a courageous man and loving father who drew strength and inspiration from his christian faith. " " " garrett was an absolutely incredible man of god who loved his family and loved the flock of god in remarkable ways. i have known him for

about ten years and watched him faithfully serve and place others before himself in nearly every situation." the shooter, 57- year-old robert lewis dear is being held without bail. dear is expected to face a judge monday. investigators still don't have any information on dear's motive. lukas thousands of people gathered outside of downing street and cities across the united kingdom to demonstrate british airstrikes on the islamic state in syria. the 'stop the war' coalition organized the peaceful protest after calls for military action against the terror group became louder ... in the the wake of the paris attacks. around 4000 people attended the protest in london. the british parliament is expected to vote on the issue as early as next week. lukas republican presidential candidate ben carson, says the united states needs to do more to help solve the syrian refugee crisis.

carson is in northern jordan visiting refugee camps. he released a statement saying: "the united states must do more. bringing 25- thousand refugees to the united states does nothing to solve this crisis." lukas pope francis may have a new ride during his current visit to uganda. one mechanic has built him a new popemobile. david mckenzie has more " " when ugandan mechanic moses kayiira got wi that pope francis was coming to town. there was only one thing to do. build the pontiff a popemobile for his trip to kampala. . it's a bit snug. (david mckenzie / kampala, uganda): "so he says the pope is smaller than me but also, they can pull the doors off while he drives his popemobile through the crowds of kampala so the pope can wave." moses sourced his parts locally and pulled images of the pope from the net. he says it will all appeal to the 'people's pope'. lukas thousands of people across new zeland have turned out to demonstrate on climate change. thirty-five events were organised in towns and cities around the country as part of "2,000 across the world" . all of this ahead of the climate change talks in paris this week. lukas facebook is exteing parental leave for its employees worldwide. all new parents will recieve four months of paid baby leave, regardless of gender. the company used its social media site to make the announcement. the policy comes just days after facebook c-e-o mark zuckerberg announced he will take two months of paternity leave when his daughter is born. a post by zuckerberg said studies show outcomes are bettor children whose parents take time to be with their newborns. facebook is one of the leaders in a push by tech companies to offer competitive parental leave. lukas "raspberry pi" has raised the bar on low-cost computing -- again. you're looking at the "raspberry pi zero" -- the newest version of a british non- profit's tiny, low-cost

highlighted by four tommy armstrong interceptions.... one of those picks went back for a touchdown.....one ended nebraska's rally in the fourth. tough sledding for the junior...but he owned up to his performance. "cost us the game. if it's anybodys fault its mine. defense played well, our receivers played well...offensive line blocked well, put us in great positions to win the game, i just didn't take care of the football. gave them seven points and also put them in a great position to honestly win the game." should be interesting to see if the huskers can sneak into a bowl game with a 5-7 record. game with a 5-7 record.
