cancelled. woodbury county courthouse closed at one this afternoon.... but most folks had to start the work week on a sloppy and slippery note. and for those depending on public transportation.... it was anything but an easy ride after service was haulted for an hour.... abc9's elisa raffa is at the tyson events center in downtown sioux city elisa? elisa: tim, im here.... where we're still seeing snow fall, roads are still slushy. earlier this afternoon, slow was falling so fast that plows weren't able to get around quick enough and the sioux city transit system was suspended. the sioux city transit system was suspended between about 11:30 and 12:30 today due to the weather. road conditions caused slower traffic... and buses off schedule.

commuters i spoke to today said getting around was slow and slick. "with weather conditions out there, we wanted everybody to be safe, and they were slowly getting further and further behind. they come into the transfer point once an hour, so each hour they were getting a few minutes behind , and it just caught up with us about midday today" says mike collett, assistant elisa: the buses have been running on time and in full schedule since they resumed service at 12:30. the assistant city manager says the plan to do so the rest of the evening and tomorrow. if they need to make changes to the schedules again, they will alert media as soon as possible so commuters can plan accordingly, and get around safely. coming up tonight at six we'll hear from sioux city seargeant mcclure on how the roads are doing and how commuters can prepare to travel in even more snow tomorrow. reporting live in sioux city, meteorologist elisa raffa, abc9 news. tim:

even though the rate of snowfall is slowed considerably.....de partment of transportation, and city plows continue the cleanup.... road conditions are better in the metro than out in rural areas.... if you dont have to drive somewhere tongiht, just as well stay inside. abc 9's bria bell knows all about the highway conditions... she was out with plow drivers early today...and joins us now at the dot plow barn.... bria: yes tim, all day plow trucks have steadily come in and out of the d- o-t garage near tri view avenue, trying to stay on top of interstate road conditions. the first set of plow crews came

in at 3 this morning today, with the second crew following in at 7. because of the heavy snow fall, shifts have ranged from 12 to 16 hours to maintain insterstate roads and to make clearing the highways easier, few trucks are sent out to the same destination at one time for quicker clean up. . "normally on i-29 we try to run two tow plows in tandem, with one more truck behind us so we can get everything taken across in one shot. the rest of the trucks will run downtown and take the ramps," said rubendall the trucks also lay down salt brine when they plow, another way d-o-t tries to limit snow on the ground. now the snow is predicted to continue into tuesday, troy says that their shifts will still stay at the same rate as long as the snow keeps up. reporting live in sioux city, bria bell abc 9 news. tim: thanks bria, folks in norfolk nebraska, also got their fair share of snow

our friends over community college shot this punches in with 3 point seven inches thats a new record for norfolk. generally ne nebraska snow totals are less than what other siouxland received. norfolk and ne nebraska remains under winter until 6pm tuesday night, tim: getting snow up in south dakota this afternoon, snow is widespread in eastern part of the state sioux falls conditions havebeen heavy at times with reports of one to two inches per hour. the heavy snow is whiteout conditions in some areas. we've also been getting numerous reports of accidents due to slippery roads and reduced visibilities. tim: some sad news out of yankton south dakota after two people died as a result of an accident early this

according to the south dakota state patrol a car driven by a 31- year-old male was traveling in the wrong lane on highway 50 east of yankton collided head on into a vehicle driven by a 30- year-old female head on. authorities say one of the cars caught fire as a result of the accident. the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female driver died from her injuries at a sioux falls hospital. niether of the vicitims names have been released at this time. the accident is currently under investigation. tim: turning now to the dakota access pipeline, an important decision made today to further the construction of the proposed pipeline tim: south dakota public utilities commissiou voted two to one after a two and a half hour meeting in pierre south dakota today state regulator sissued a construction permit for the pippeline that will run diagnolly aross south dakota carrying oil to illinois. the pipeline has been hotley contested, but supporters of

create jobs across the state, the pipeline is slated to pump barrels of crude oil to its destination a day. tim: the e-p-a is expanding when it comes to renewable fuel standard protection agency released their target goal for 2015-2016 under the standard. the agency has nearly doubled the expected usage of cellulosic biofuel upping it from 123 million gallons used in 2015, projecting next year to yield over 230 million but for some they are saying too late. tim: grassely of iowa was amongst one of those, displeased with the epa's renewable fuel revisions. he released a statement today saying quote: "this rule is a slight improvement but

it still sells biofuels short. the epa just doesn't appreciate that farmers and biofuels producers can generate enough renewable fuels to meet the goals set by congress. the epa doesn't seem to appreciate that the law on the books requires strong biofuels targets and that consumers like the chance to use alternate fuels. grassley went on to call the epa's approach to the problem "flawed" and suggested it buys io "big oil's rhetoric. the senator says this new rule should have came two years ago. tim: when it comes to non-renewable fossil fuels, gas prices continue to fall nationwide. according to triple-a, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is two dollars, four cents. down more than 25-percent from a year ago. gas-buddy says the cheapest gas in the country is at a sam's club in lafayette, indiana, where a gallon of regular is just a dollar-39. tim: president obama is

urging the world take action to reverse global warming. the president is in france today, along with nearly 200 world leaders, for the u.n. climate change conference. this long planned meeting comes just weeks after the terror attack that killed 130 in paris. president obama says the ongoing terror threat should motivate the world leaders to do more to save the planet. president obama "nothing will deter us from building the future we want for our children. what greater rejection of those who would tear down our world than marshaling our best efforts to save it?" meanwhile, the city is on lockdown for the gathering - and all public protests are banned. the goal of the conference is a global deal to cut carbon emmissions. but ongoing disputes between developing countries and western industrial nations about the burden of sharing responsibility have made it difficult to reach a deal. tim:
