authorities saying a young mother who arrived here on a fiancee visa may have radicalized her husband. pledging allegiance to the leader of isis as the couple turned a holiday party into a killing field. tonight investigators trying to determine how the warning signs of their double life went undetected. this is the first picture of tashfeen malik whose killing spree with her husband ended in this glaze of gunfire. the young mother herself allegedly firing out the back window of this suv at police. today authorities say they are investigating the shoot-out in san bernardino as an act of terror. >> this is now a federal terrorism investigation led by the fbi. >> reporter: authorities say within moments of murdering 14 people at her husband's holiday office party, tashfeen malik went on facebook to declare her allegiance to isis. >> yes, there was a pledge of allegiance. >> reporter: malik was born in pakistan, moved to saudi arabia at age 4.

attend college. her marriage to syed farook came after she wed him on a matrimonial websitit and had an engagement party in mecca, saud yeah arabia. a dress abc news discovered today does not exist. u.s. officials are questioning whether she was the one who radicalized her husband. >> i don't know the answer whether she influenced him or not. being a husband myself, we're all influenced to an extent. but i don't know the answer. >> they were great parents. >> always happy with each other. >> reporter: today syed farook's sister and brother-in-law paint a far differentpicture. >> she never mentioned any political thing. not to us ever, or to anybody else that we know. >> reporter: until wednesday's massacre the couple seemed to live unassuming lives. a two-bedroom townhouse where they lived with farook's mother. behind this door evidence of

as my colleague matt gutman saw. >> holes punched through the doors, a door that's been ripped bathroom. >> reporter: in the kitchen, cookware on the counter. a bottle of pepto next to cans of baby food. dishes in the sink. overnight the fbi had turned their home back to its owner who allowed reporters into his rental property. the fbi had already removed all e evidence they needed. a list on a coffee table of items seized. christmas lights, dozens of boxes of ammunition. upstairs in the baby's room, diapers, open suitcases, a bin with shredded paper, a prayer rug. in the closet shirts, gun cleaner, pairs of baby shoes. the baby is now in the care of child protective services. the house shows little evidence the deadly attacks they had allegedly planned at the inland regional center. that attack began wednesday at 11:00 a.m. when the couple reportedly entered through a

and if she left 30 seconds prior when the restroom, she felt she could have been sitting there and got killed. because all the people she was sitting with, they are killed. all dead. >> reporter: anisa and her husband are muslim and worship at the same mosque farook attended 2012 to 2014. today disbelief mixed with prayer. >> i know him very well. >> reporter: mustapha is director of the mosque. he told us farook came faithfully, ice daily, sought his counsel about his future bride. >> he was not looking for, say, beauty, money, fame, name, whatever. he's looking for a religious woman. someone who has -- >> a muslim woman of strong faith? >> exactly. >> reporter: she kept her face covered even among family members who say they never saw her face. >> they did not interact with her. the brothers did not ever see her face. they've never seen her face

they knew her but she was totally covered. >> reporter: trends and quaint ants say syed farook was a cloner,clone er loner, quiet, kept to himself. >> not someone who looks for confront advertise or getting into disputes. >> in talking to some of his coworkers they describe a shar person. very nice but very reserved, very quiet. >> right. >> here at the mosque the same way? >> same way. >> quiet, reserved, stay today himself? >> same way, that's true. that's true. staying to himself, very much to himself, you know. probably the i'm the only one who used to talk to him before anybody else. >> reporter: today before friday prayers he says he doesn't recognize the man who murdered 14 people. >> it's a very different person from the person who did this crime. very different person. >> reporter: we talked about suicide bombings, we talked about things that tarnished the image of islam, and he thought it was wrong. that's what i'm saying. >> reporter: muslims across the

here's abc's amy robach. >> miss dippolito? is your husband michael? >> reporter: the road to infamy beginning here, it looks like police are telling dalia dippolito her husband has been murdered. watch closely, nothing in this tape is what it seems. turns out police are duping dahlia. the crime scene? it's fake. police claim dahlia ordered a hit on her husband and they have hidden camera video to prove it. >> nobody's going to be able to point a function at me. i'm 5,000 percent sure. >> caught on tape taking a contract out on her husband -- >> police staged a fake murder scene -- >> dalia dippolito -- >> when people hear the name dalia dippolito, what come toth mind? >> everything negative. the person they're describing is definitely not me. >> reporter: her downfall began the day she met what she thought was her dream man.

impression of mike dippolito? >> charming, really strong connection. >> reporter: mike had a porsche. seemed to have plenty of money. and a nice new condo. what better setup to start a new life. >> i would say i was naive. >> reporter: police say after just six months of marriage, dahlia has other men in her life who are helping her with a secret plan, to get mike's money, his condo, get him out of the way. one of those men is in the front seat of this car. >> she asked if i could get someone to kill her husband for her. >> reporter: the man recorded as he talked to detectives. >> are you scared for the guy? >> yes. because she's really dead serious on getting this done. >> reporter: to get proof the cops make mohammad a confidential informant. he arranges to meet dahlia at this gas station? >> what's up? >> the guy is a professional. >> nobody's going to be able to point a finger on me. >> reporter: he says the hit man wants $1,200 to buy a gun.

a photo of mike. two days later the talk turns to action in this cvs parking lot. police officer. police say dahlia thinks she's meeting an actual hit man in his cherry red convertible. >> i'm going to tell you how i'm going to do it and what exactly is going to get done. >> reporter: a burglary gone wrong that leaves mike dead. >> everybody works in the daytime. i'm going to think he's at work. he's not at work and he gets two in the head. between now and when it's done, you know, you're not going to have an opportunity to change your mind even if you change your mind. >> no there's no -- >> you definitely want to do this? >> i'm positive, like 5,000% sure. >> reporter: "cops" has come to boynton beach to film the last part of the investigation. >> the detectives were going to stage this fake crime scene. >> i hear a banging on the door. >> i'm a sergeant with the police department, your wife has hired a person to kill you. >> i was very surprised.

and she wanted another man. dahlia's trial lawyer michael sell nick has a defense -- >> it was never anyone's intention to harm anyone. it was a stunt. it was a hoax. >> reporter: it was a plot to get on television, a reality tv defense. salnick tells the jury that dahl yeah mohammad, and michael were working together to try to land themselves as stars in reality tv. >> absolutely not. that's a lie. >> reporter: as for the mysterious mohammad, what does he make of all of this? he declined to do an interview with us. he has denied working on a video with dahlia and mike. >> the defense is going to rest. >> reporter: it took three hours to reach a verdict. >> we find the defendant guilty of solitation to commit murder. >> reporter: then dahlia's hail mary prayer for appeal was answered. a florida judge ruled the jury wasn't selected properly and ordered a new trial. >> were you surprised? >> it's the first piece of good news throughout the whole process that i received. >> reporter: because it is a
