" deborah: again..president obama will be addressing the nation tonight. he will be live from the oval office to discuss the "broader threat of terrorism" that'll be tonight at 7 p-m. abc news will air the address as part of a special report. again that's coming up at 7 p- m. deborah: here in siouxland... a south sioux city man is facing a several charges after witnesses say he used a gun to rob a home. early this morning sioux city police responded to a burglary call at 14-22 west second street. according to the victm...20-year old arturo silvas of south sioux city kicked down the door of the home..and threatened the resident with a handgun. after fleeing the scene, police caught up with silvas and arrested him.

held without bond at the woodbury county jail on first degree burglary charges deborah: now to the presidential race... a couple of republican candidates are swinging through the hawkeye state this week. former pennsylvania senator rick santorum will be in ne-vah-duh, iowa...to speak about the renewable fuel standard in america. the event is being held at the lincolnway energy center in ne-vah-duh this tuesday. recent increases in the renewable fuel standard handed down by the enviromental protection agency....have been criticized by several iowa politicians. senator chuck grassley says the recent increase allowed of cellulosic ethanol has come "a few years too late" deborah: christmas will come early for some children here in siouxland... local residents are coming together to help those in need for the holidays. abc 9's bria bell has more... bria: yes deborah, a local group that connected through facebook is trying to spread christmas cheer by helping

provide presents for their children. more than a couple dozen children have been listed on the page, but the demand is high and the group is worried that there might not be enough to go around this holiday season. "that's why this whole page came about. i want to be able to help all the children in siouxland who need the help," said hansen. several people within the siouxland community have come together to create sioux city christmas help 2015, a group on facebook who's dedicated to helping families ,who otherwise might not be able to provide christmas presents for their children. missy hansen initially began the project and she knows exactly what it's like to walk in the shoes of those that are in need. "a few years ago we moved back here and we were homeless. awoman by the name of joan fleck...i had contacted and needed help. she picked it up, she sponsored my children and since then, she has changed it for me and for other families and i can't in honor, i'm for her...because we pay it forward and in this community, we all need to pay it forward," said hansen. the page garnered so much attention that there have been more kids than donors and

"so we have quite a few children and they're still some on a waiting list that have not been put on the page yet," said hansen. a party will be held on december 12th at bob roe's, where the group plans to have pizza, balloons and an actual santa clause to hand deliver gifts to the sponsored children. families that have been helped by the organization say that they're thankful because christmas wish will "i thank the lord that there's still people out there that are willing to and i think that's god's work by helping each other "i was really happy kind of up and down able to afford christmas for my kids and it's his first christmas this year so it just made me really happy. i just something like that," if you would like

"it's a great opportunity to let the public come in and for us to show our appreciation for the support we get from the people in sioux city," said don duzik, volunteer.

s begin fighting deborah those pint size fighters are competing in the iowa state judo championships. the competition took place today at the long lines family recreational center in sioux city. it featured events...for junior judo fighters...ages 5 to 16......as well as seniors and masters...for adult fighters. the competition included "ne waza"...which tests ground fighting skills. competitors were also judged on their shi-ai....or standard fighthing technique. this year's competition featured three local fighters..each of whom are nationally ranked in their divisions. still to come santa's getting hip this holiday season. see what we mean.

hawkeyes have a lot to look forward to with today's bowl announcement. for the first time since 1991, iowa is heading to pasadena to play in the rose bowl. the hawkeyes will meet pac-12 champ stanford on new years day in the grandaddy of them all. 25 years ago, iowa lost to washington in the '91 rose bowl, leaving hayden fry with an 0-3 record in pasadena. this january will mark kirk ferentz' first trip to the rose bowl and despite last night's loss, his hawkeyes are ready to roll. 4:00 on new years day on espn. for the first time ever, three 5-7 teams are going bowling.....one of those teams is nebraska. it was announced this afternoon that the huskers are heading to santa clara to face off with ucla in the foster farms bowl the game will be played at levi's stadium....the home of the 49ers.....on december 26th at 8:15. this bowl trip is nebraska's seventh trip to california. alex the sioux city bandits are the defending c-i-f champs. last season, erv strohbeen led his group to another title over texas, their 3rd championship in five years. with that in the past, sioux city has its sights set on the 2016 season. the bandits held open tryouts this afternoon looking to reload their roster for yet another championship run. sioux city returns league mvp charles dowdell and co-special teams player of the year frederick bruno, but head coach erv strohbeen said he is taking every opportunity to upgrade his roster across
