jessica rae: but before you have your brownie... for dinner? simple recipe for check it out! classic dishes that just take us back in kinds of things that our moms and their moms used to make. has to be stuffed cabbage. and while i love it, i don't have the time (or the patience) to make it like my grananother rose did. so i asked the test kitchen to help me come up with a new version that has all the taste -- without all the work. all we do is make

the basics: ground beef, bread crumbs, an egg, salt and pepper and a little water. we'll set those aside for a moment while we mix together some crushed tomatoes, brown sugar, a bit of worcestershire sauce and a touch of lemon. now instead of steaming, pulling apart and stuffing the cabbage like normal, we simply layer shredded cabbage on the bottom of a soup pot. (this pot was actually my grandmother's.) on top of that goes our meatballs, half of our sauce, then more cabbage and the rest of the sauce. then just let it simmer until the cabbage is tender. what you get is all the flavors of classic stuffed cabbage with only half the work. it's the perfect way to welcome someone home on a chilly day. i know i'll be keeping this recipe for "stuffed cabbage stew" from our website on standby and i hope you wil too so you canring back a classic dish withoua lot of fuss. i'm howard in the mr. food test kitchen, where every day we're looking for an easier way for you to say "ooh it's so good!!"
