pkg in: that's right deborah ... a group on facebook called "sioux city christmas help 2015" made it their mission to help families in need have a great christmas. they pair up sponsors with families who then buy gifts to make one of the most memorable times of the year a little brighter for everyone ... and today was their big day. nats: screaming ... trying to find people. vo: sometimes santa needs a little help ... and this time he got it. the facebook group called "sioux city christmas help 2015" celebrated their big christmas pay to help famimies in need of a more enjoyable christmas. how do they do this? well it's all through the help of social media. "i saw the site on facebook and i aed about it, they told me to contact cherrie so i contacted cherrie and gave her some information. the she asked my daughters age, sizes what she is interested in and they posted on the page and then kerry said she would sponsor as and that's howowe got sponsored." the group currently has 515 members ... over 150 families had the opportunity to

those who sponsor do it for one simple reason. "just being able to help somebody out and seeing the smiles on the kids faces ... i mean i was just so excited to be shopping for them ... i love it." "we have over 150 families come out and it's pretty overwhelming that that many people actual come out to help. a lot of times with things being hard you wouldn't think anybody would and we have had a lot of people forward and sponsor these kids that need a better christmas ... that's the best part about it. and because a lot of times other programs aren't available to some ... the help of siouxland families makes a big difference. to dubuque iowa shortly after speaking in clinton. this swing through the state is a chance for sanders to rally voters in a state where he's fallen behind contender hillary clinton in the polls. deborah: hundreds met their muslim neighbors at an open house in the islamic center of the quad cities in moline this afternoon. the event was open to o yone wanting ask questions and learn more about islam. there were tours of the mosque, art, informational booths, and food. mosque leaders say, they regularly have open houses... but today's was more crowded than usual. people from many different faiths came to learn and show support for the quad cities muslim community. deborah: on monday... it wll be three years since the sandy hook shooting that killed 20 students and six educators... today...a group in des moines honored the victims, while calling for change. moms, faith leaders and elected officials held a orange walk to end gun violence... it's part of a national movement... with orange walks held across the county...including this one in des anotehr in iowa they say the color orange symbolizes the life...and the shared commitment to reduce gun country... organizers say the walk serves the best way to to keep moving forward. demand action for gun sense in america" they say it shows legislators that they will be loud, and never stop fighting for gun law reform. deborah: military families are spending t te today honoriri veterans....for wreaths across america day. hundreds of people gathered at iowa veterans cemetery in adel for a short ceremony. families then spread out all across the area, to lay wreaths on each of the gravestones. those with relatives at the cemetery laid their wreaths first, and then added the remaining wreaths across the site. it's the eighth year for the celebration... similar r ents took place across the untry.
