accident invovled a stolen vehicle. according to the p-d, this white van was stolen from south sioux city before 6 a-m this morning the suspect later collided with another white vehicle on outer drive just across from north high school. the driver of the stolen car fled the scene but was later apprehended by police. no other details are available. tim: also at about six this morning fire fighters were called to a car fire. the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived at 26-01 sheridan street on sioux city's north side. that car was located dangerously close to the home, but fire officials say the residence did not suffer any damage. the caususof the fire was not immediately available. tim: sioux city fire crews also were on the scene of a gas line break this morning after construction crews struck a gas line on the city's north side. according to midamerican energy, a third party contractor hit the line

morning. repairs were quickly made allolong a road to b bre opened to traffic. no one was injured.... tim: sioux city polic may have solved a string of auto thefts. 28 year old mack- quiber bracka- monte of sioux city was arrested after police say he stole at least 5 cars. police say mack- quiber bracka- monte stole those vehicleses between october and december o o this year. when police found the vehicles, they had seral parts remozed and were in the process of being stripped. he's charged with multiple counts of felony theft and ongoing criminal conduct. he's being held on a 47 thousand dollar bond. tim: authorities in south dakota are alerting the public that the complice of a notorious south dakota serial killer is set to be released next week. glen walker received two concurrent 25 year sentences for kidnapping and attempted kidnapping -- along with a consecutive five year sentence for being an

murder back in the 90's when he was convicted of helping his friend robert lee anderson kidnap and killtwo women. minnehaha county sheriff mike milstead had just joined the department when the incidents occured, and now says there's uncertainty about where walker will go after this. " there's always that uncertainty of what somebody is going to do, once they've served their time, and they're released from custody, i think the department of corrections deals with that on a daily basis." walker received a reduced sentence for good behavior and he's due to be released on christmas eve without supervision such as parole or probation. tim: a federal manhunt is now underway for that missing texas teenager.. better known as the "affluenza teen".. ethan couch was spared jail time and was given just probation after killing four people while driving drunk. but now.. he is on the run and he could have a three-week head start on authorities. abc's

medal for their actions back in may of 20-14 when they helped save a woman from her derranged husband. during that incident the husband shot at the family while he chased their car through north sioux city. the family was able to evade the gunman until thorities were able to arrive, likely saving the woman's life. tim: a woodbury county agency got a big boost today after cf industries presented a check for over thirty- seven thousand dollars to them the money all goes to the woodbury county emergency services department. the county will use the money to sponsor keynote speakers at conferences, upgrade instruments at the fire partments, and buy hand held anhydrous ammonia detectors for all fire departments. "it comes at a great time, these are projects we've been working on for a long time, and it's going to help us get these off of our list of things to do so we can move on to some other project that we'd like to get done" says gary brown, director, woodbury county emergency services. the director of emergency

"middle school students? they aren't exactly known for their ability to sit still and be quiet. but a new study shows that students from disadvantaged neighborhoods who learn mindfulness and meditation habits in school may have a better chance at reducing the negative effects of

researchers from hopkins studied 300 middle school students from two baltimore schools? splitting them into two groups. one group participated in a 12-week mindfulness-based stress reduction program. the other group? participating in a program of similar structure where they learned about health topics? but without the mindfulness component. at the beginning of the study, thehe students reported comparable levels of things like depression and self-hostility? but after twelve weeks, the students who learned mindfulness had significantly lower levels of these symptoms and many others - such as negative affect, negative coping and posttraumatic symptom severity. this study was done in a limited sample, but it's still potentially good news. school-baseded mindfulness instruction could be a meaningful tool for kids with many negative stressors in their lives? and less stress in childhood usually means a healthier
