sheriff's deputy todd peterson was the first on scene and tried catching the second woman who was jumping to safety. peterson happened to be nearby at the time of the call. "a lot of things went through my head at that point in time. the first thing that i was thinking is, i didn't want her to fall and land on her neck, [that] was the main thing. i ran over to where she was and told her that i was the only one there and probably not going to be able to catch you by myself, and at that point, she dropped out of the window," said peterson. peterson says everything happened in an instant and had to react quickly. he thinks the woman'n'injuries could have been worse if he was not there to lessen the impact of her fall... and the fact that both women really had no other choice due to the nature of the fire. "from the looks of the building, i mean, they probably didn't have a choice. the way the smoke and flames were coming out of the building...if i was put in their situation i would have probably done the same thing...yeah, if they wodn't have came out that window they probably would have been killed in that fire," said peterson. the women's names are not being realeased yet, but authorities say they're in their early 20's. the cause of the

know it's really not a news concept necessarily but it's just something that we emphasize. i think every coach, no matter where they are in the country, they look at where they are at and what is most realistic and what gives them the best chance of winnning. and in our case that's really all that i know about in my adult coaching career, all but nine years have been spent in iowa so those are really just some feelings i've developed through the years. and when we came back in 1999 it's realal no different om when coach fry was there. it's always k kd of amused me a little b b coach fry was known for the sunglass the white pants the razzle dazzle stuff but if you looked at his best teams in the big games they won with fundamentals and doing the little things right and playing tough hard nosed football and that's really a tradition at iowa." chris: we'll of course continue to have more from pasadena leading up to kickoff on friday at 4 pm. chris: yesterday, the pasadena leading up to kickoff on friday at 4 pm.
