im tim seaman jenna: and im jenna rehnstrom the battle between concerned mornignside residents and the city officials continues to flare as a proposed cell tower is set to be built in the residential neighborhood. tim: abc9's jess plue spoke to a some of those residents to find out what they have to say after the city board of adjustment ruled to move ahead in the process, at tuesday's public meeting at city hall, despite of the outcry from the community. jess: residents are still fired up for sure and want their position on the building of the cell tower ..to be known. even though the cell tower is set to move into its final stages before construction starts, citizen say they're not going down without a fight. " i went around with petitions from the neighbors. they don't want it, but it didn't do a dang bit of good," says pat ramirez, a concerned morningside resident. residents attended the city council meeting on tuesday to present their argument in opposition to the building of the new verison cellular tower. to their dismay, the

refused to hear all their concerns. residents like pat ramirez are upset by the city council's refusing to listen to her and finds the building of the tower to bring more negative than good. "there are kids that have turned up with tumors from these dang towers. not only that but if it's going to depreciate the value of my home..psh...it ain't worth it," says ramirez. according to real estate professionals, if the tower is built, homes could take a property value hit as high as two thousand dollars. clara otto, another concerned resident is less concerned with the money and more about the neighborhood. "it's just a peaceful place and they're just going to take it away it feels like and it's just sad," says clara otto, a concerned morningside resident. residents assured me they will continue to fight against the tower being built and they hold high hopes that the city council will propose a new location after hearing their concerns,... whether that be in a council meeting, or in a courtroom. "i don't really think it's fair. we didn't really get a choice," says otto. "somthing's got to be done. we can't let our neighborhood go down like that," says ramirez. jess: we reached out to the city council board members for a comment today

"the main thing is for mosquito control, uh if yoconrol the mosquito, then the risk for wide spread infection is going to be limited. and at

particular case, the likelyhood of a wide spread outbreak in this country is prettty low." common symptons of zika virus include fever rash joint pain and pink eye. and the center for disease control has issued a travel notice for those looking to take trips to affected regions. jenna: two sioux city teens were sentenced for staging a bank robbery last year. jenna: 19 year old heaven zevenbergen and 18 year old angelica perez were given five years in prison. they also much pay back the 10 thousand dollars they took from the security national bank branch on hamilton boulevard. the judge in the case considered suspending the prison term but wanted to send a message to others. " i hope you understand i just don't understand this at all. doesn't make a bit of sense to me whatsoever. i can't imagine what the motivationwhould have been. there are kids in this world whwould love to have half of what you have going for them what you have going for you." jenna:

degree theft in connection to the robbery which was carried out last year. tim: iowa felons are looking to get their voting rights back. the iowa supreme court is considering a case that would decide which of thousands of former offenders sould someday again be able to vote. the state constitution says anyone who commits an infamous crime loses their right to vote. meaning anyone who's convicted of a felony. it's something one former felon says needs to change legrand wayne logsdon, former offender "it's kind of frustrating to not be able to voice your opinion about the how the city and the country is ran. all you can do is sit back and watch." groups have been urging the iowa supreme court to change the rules. the naacp says the voting ban disproportionatel y affects blacks. jenna: there's major confusion over healthcare at the iowa state hous. right now .. one in six iowans still doesn't know for sure where their

will come from. governor terry branstad's plan to change the state's medicaid program to a managed care system is still in limbo... with the clock ticking. reporter amanda krenz has more. "amanda intro: 28:59 while the battle continues over whether iowa should move f orward with its plans to privatize medicaid, there are some lawmakers who are moving forward with their plans to stop it. packets in the mail went out months ago, showing iowans on medicaid their options for managed care companies. but deadlines have come and gone - with no clear picture about how medicaid will transition into managed care. some state lawmakers have now taken it upon themselves to try and stop it. 9:48 our job is to be responsible to the people we represent. if we are, we hav eto start listening to what's being siad, what's really happening on the ground, this is not ready by any stretch of the imagination. senator pam jochum has a daughter with intellectual disabilities and isn't sure where she'll be able to receive some of the services she needs. she's going to introduce a bill to

pete goede. als took his life just last year. dane goede says, "it was a lot of fun for him to be able to do this. he knew at some point he would barely be able to speak and actually shortly after, he voice nearly completely went and he could only speak at a whisper, so this was kind of the last opportunity that he had to really be able to sing in front of people and be able to do what he's always done." and just like a love for rock and roll united the group back in 1969, a new mission will bring the band back together sunday. this time, with pete's son, dane, on lead vocals. dane will perform as part of abc9's pete goede memorial als benefit concert. it's effort started last year, to raise awareness for this disease that doesn't get a lot of attention... although it can be devistating for families. als, also known as lou gehrig's disease, is a progressive condition of the brain and spinal cord. eventually, the brain loses the ability to control muscle movement, so people affected by als see a wide range of symptoms as different areas of

dane says, "it quickly progressed through his arms to the point where he lost all ability to move his arms. we had one physican refer to that as 'man in a barrel' type als, but essentially it got to the point where his arms were nearly useless." it was during that time that the goede family got help from the alsa. the money raised during sunday's benefit will support northwest iowa families through the als association iowa. they cnect people with services to maintain the best quality of life possible after an als diagnosis. josh nuss, als association of iowa says, "from our equipment loan program to our home visit program. we also have a quality of life grant that we provide financial assistance to folks that we serve. it really does provide that care that our als folks need." dane goede says, "this is part of our way of giving back is just to try to raise awareness and raise as much funding as possible for people to try to improve their quality of life as they go through this disease just like we had help." jenna: we hope you'll joins us sunday at the pete goede

school district are in des moines today lobbying lawmakers for more money for schools. state lawmakers are trying to figure out how much funding school districts will get next school year. jenna: the republican- controlled house proposed a two percent increasein state aid to

the democrat- controlled senate says that's not enough and wants a four percent increase. our cedar rapids affiliate has more from the concerned students looking to lobby for their education funds. a message she and her peers brought to legislators today." the group of around 75 prepared over the last few days. this morning, they hopped on a bus and arrived in des moines at about 10:30. almost immediately the lobbying began. students had been told to look up their legislators ahead of time, then find them in the capitol and encourage support for at least that 3.72 percent funding increase to maintain staff and services. did it work? here's what one metro sophomore had to say. the district says it hasn't made any decisions on cuts, if the school funding increase isn't large enough.
