wales what happened till i got outside. >> reporter: police and witnesses say ford kept shooting until a single officer, first to arrive fires back. >> there was a particular law enforcement here in hesston that responded right away. and even though he took fire, he went inside of that place and saved multiple multiple lives. a hero as far as i'm concerned. >> reporter: in the end, four employees including the shooter would not survive many more wounded. >> inside the building, he shot a total of 15 people. >> reporter: around 150 employees were inside at the time. worried friends and family waited outside for news. >> i just can't believe that the guy that shot people up lived right across the street from us. >> reporter: not much is known yet about the victim who have not been idtified. ford has an extensive criminal record in florida. police aren't saying why they believe he opened fire but they've ruled out terrorism. excel is a family-owned company that makes law mowing equipment
