2:00 am
the challenge is a world title. >> j.b. mauney mauney, you need to take notice. >> the world's top 15 cowboys face-off once again in the pbr 15/15 bucking battle from st. louis. >> j.b. mauney has done it. >> he just laid a dragon. del taco. .com. the. >> the best in the bull riding business has made their way to the gateway to the west.
2:01 am
defending world champ j.b. mauney is surprisingly still searching for his first ever 15/15 bucking battle when today we welcome back one of the best ever, 2012 at world champion bucking bull returns after a year off and he is out to prove he has not lost a step. we welcome you inside scott trade center for the third 15/15 bucking battle of the 2016 season, which means we welcome you up top once again to the pbr's built ford tough skybox along to time pbr world champ justin mcbride and two to form, j.b. mauney is already manufactured multiple highlight moments a season. >> absolutely and i think that will be his legacy. he was one guy that could always write as tough as bulls, but taking a look at him here, j.b.
2:02 am
then when you look back at last week, this is a bull that made the guy look like he did not have a chance against him in j.b. mauney makes him look likely bolded everybody should rise. >> with rides like that we don't need more headlines, but we have one with one of the sports best heavyweights ever, astroid making a comeback. >> i can't wait to see him. this was the last time we got to see him at iron cowboy with 46 points. i look for this bull to come back, pick up where he left off and i think after tonight in this 15/15 bucking battle he will be the number one bull in the world. >> we transition from legends to a man is starting to make a name for himself, derek kolbaba who is with leah car seat as. >> rookie derek kolbaba has already experienced the winner's circle. what would you say is the best advice you have been given so far?
2:03 am
you don't make the eight seconds , so block everything out and stick to the basics and make a ride and you are always shooting to win, so that's where -- what we will try to do. >> is there anything you can do with your bull riding gear? >> i have the options worth of my rope and justin talked about that and tried it out and it worked just a bit ago and last night, so we will try again and plan for the best. >> good luck. >> justin, he is talking about advice you gave him in round number two. let's get to the 15/15 matchup we will see today starting with last year's rookie of the year sensational kaique pacheco who will put-- space bar red jacket all the way down there at the bottom you can see he will face slinger junior and then to the top guys based on their place and so far, j.b. mauney will face sheep creek in our current
2:04 am
be aboard wicked. we will start with kaique pacheco. he has had so much success early on in his career and it was right here in st. louis about a year ago he got his first ever even when. >> and a great chance of getting a win right here. red jacket should be around to the right, but he can change things up. but, kaique pacheco does not need to bulls to go a certain direction. he rides it really well jump for job and just reacts to what's happening under him. >> kaique pacheco, a three-time winner last season already this year riding the 15/15 bucking battle. justin mcbride crystal ball is working early on.
2:05 am
right. >> he looked a great right there. he was never in any kind of trouble and has a judge you have to take that in consideration when someone dominates a bull like this, that's where he earned his rider points right there is because you can see the boy had a hop skip around the corner and doctor really hard the entire ride. that's a great way to start off the. >> a couple weeks ago in anaheim, kaique pacheco road 486 and a half and this one will be better. eighty-eight and a quarter. little red jacket and try to forget the ride started. you know often when the first rider converts, that sets a great precedence. >> it doesn't i think these guys feed off it and feed off the crowd. that energy can be picked up and lowered by the ways the guys start out in the crowd. i think these will set up for a nice ride.
2:06 am
opportunity to ride the tracks aboard magica train, the third 15/15 bucking battle the season for gauge. >> he has a great matchup here and it looks to me like this bull has a trigger in the shoe, but if you can get out of their clean this bull should ride good. >> i wouldn't want to jump through my rope, but flight of their easy to get a comfortable seat and get out of there really easy. >> just like that magic train derailed any hope at all the gage gay had of making it. >> let's go back to what we were talking about with kaique pacheco, he's a guy that ride either direction and doesn't matter. he has not such-- that much of the gauge plan. watctcgage gay to read the bull is going straight and gauges going back to the shoe and plans on that bolstering a. you have to ride these bulls jump for jump. >> one a score, one buckoff and in a season where gage gay has
2:07 am
already, some disappointment there and this is edward zero who is had success in the past and the 15/15 buckoff battles. >> great match here and should be away from his hand. this is a guy that quietly put together really good rides. >> they have met before in the bull one a couple seasons ago in phoenix. walk off takes this round as the official buckoff time will be around four seconds. >> these kind of rides, this is a real contender for a world championship. this bull has an off day and he has given him every chance to write him and you seen him pick
2:08 am
>> but, his missed opportunity means kaique pacheco has no rival at the moment. eighty-eight and a half is the standard. >> bass pro shooed out 15/15 bucking battle on cbs sports is sponsored by ford.

2:11 am
for your chance to win a f ford. >> never miss a moment of the action with the cbs sports. >> some of the headlines, we have already talked about astroid's return and you know the brazilians are on fire the season. derek kolbaba, he is impressing not just the veterans, but everyone who has seen his riding and it j.b. mauney talked about quietly staying in contention with those highlight reel rides, but he loves where he is sitting right now in the stocking position. speaking of stocking, astroid, nothing is stocking or lurking about what he does. he will take on joao ricardo vieira for the fourth time and he has had the brazilians at
2:12 am
years ago during joao ricardo vieira's rookie season, so expect not just joao ricardo vieira to be a different rider, different role. >> you think maybe astroid has it that way because astroid has only had 60 something career outs and a lot of great old bulls have had that in one years time, so i think the bull has a lot left in his tank. >> he is facing little joe and it went the bolts way, but mac mentioned not losing a step in the same thing could be said for him it 36. >> he has been doing this for a decade, but he has about-- but that the last seven bulls he's attempted and i talked to him and he has said he is getting a lot of advice from his friends, what to do, what not to do and i said why do you need their advice and he said when you buckoff you will listen to anyone.
2:13 am
well, don't you? great buckoff there and my comments doesn't mean you ever bucked off a time in a row, but the fact that when you are searching for something as a rider you are willing to work perhaps in places you wouldn't normally. >> and people that would usually not be there to give you advice are willing to give you advice and it is tough. i always tried to keep a close knit around me group of guys that i respected their idea of how they rode bulls and those were the guys i listened to. >> well, let's explain what happened. challenging actually the buckoff and shorty, did you see something in terms of what the bolded? >> i will have to disagree with him. i don't think this will go in his favor. you see him holding onto the shoot their longtime in the bull
2:14 am
hanging on their and put his body out of shape and had he not done that i think he would've been in a better spot when the bull turned back and he could have wrote him. >> you have highlighted that on numerous occasions that when you hang onto the shooter the gate you are not helping yourself. >> not at all, the bull is leaving and you are holding onto something that is not moving in that will pull you off of him. that bullet never fouled himself and that was just outsmarting him and getting him on the ground. >> officially there will not be a score and as we look at 2004 pbr world champion we are highlighting the fact that he is approaching a huge milestone in the sport, 500 career rides and there has only been one man to do it. when you talk about longevity and success, you have combined the two as well. >> i really don't put a whole lot into stats in these different kinds of things that get thrown around with riders, but 500 career rides, i am so impressed and what i really thought about what he
2:15 am
amazing thing to not only stay healthy enough for so long to be able to do it, but to ride that much. >> work cut out for him against stanley, this bullet ridden only one out of his last 38 attempts, 15 straight buckoffs. mike lee has been dispatched by this bull already a couple of years ago. it happens a second time and in fact fashion. only 2.8. >> we can look back and say right here mike lee does not get up over the front end and he's moving ford, but the same things we always say about that max, but he does this to everyone, that bull is not jumping in the air wild or anything and he is one of the most consistently great bulls onto were.
2:16 am
to see at this level, 44.0. pbr and ford are giving you a behind-the-scenes look into the pbr with a series called bill ford tough behind the ride and you can go to pbr.com. /board to see videos of your pbr riders and you can enter for a chance to win at 2016f150 and a trip for two to the 2016 world finals in vegas. contractors are so important with pbr now. the bolts we have are the elite of the elite bulls. >> you have got to be lucky for one and treat them like you would any athlete, give them the best treatment in the best exercise program and the best care and take care them and they will take care of you. >> my dad raises bulls and he got one to the finals, so it is pretty fun to watch them grow up and that takes a lot of

they have a lot of hard work with their physical training and when they get hurt they have physical therapy, feeding them every day and they take the best care of their animals. >> 's everyday ranch work. he put out pay and check water and everyday's a little different in operation around here starts about 7:00 a.m. and usually ends about 10:00 p.m., so you spend a lot of time with the bulls and get them accustomed to the way things work and introduce them to the sport. they are bred to buck. it's in their genetics, but it is something you still have to introduce them to develop a relationship with them and they get to knowing you on a personal level and they trust you and as they get older they learn their job and that's when it's really neat. >> for more information go to pbr.com. /ford. you can have a chance to win a

presented by trailer hitches will be hosted by my partner, justin mcbride and we look right now at the only guy that has it done, kaique pacheco, 88 and a half points. we will see what mason located done because he has already put together big scores this season and here he faces seven dust. >> we see mason a few weeks ago ruse in for a huge score and he just showed us and let us have a glimpse of what this guy is capable of. >> you have seen and we have all seen that this guy cares, as he should, but sometimes he might lack that ability to step away from himself and not put too much pressure on himself. mason low cannot even last two seconds on seven dust, a quick
2:22 am
>> i know that was a tough bull, the long jump out of there, but i could hear you hollering have fun and it looked to me like he was trying to clamp down so hard that he just stuck as the bull left of the shoot. >> i think he is putting too much pressure on himself and trying to hard. effort is how you win at this level and when i talk about effort i talk about keeping your hand close in making moves and not attempt to get in the middle. it's not how hard you move or how hard your moves are, you have to match your move with the intensity of the bull and that kid has a lot of effort, he just needs to learn how to have fun, relaxing ride bulls because you love it. >> and 22 years old and we know we also hope to see him onto her for a long time. richardson coming in off the two of his best career wins ever. that is how he has earned his
2:23 am
task. give locklin richardson some credits. all of a sudden that bull has not been written very often in his career and somehow the australian found a way. >> good job for locklin. he almost gets himself in a lot of trouble. he is a guy that does not take a lot with his first and he is trying to spur all the time and that's great as long as you are aggressive and beating the bull see your leg flopped back on the top of him, you got to get it back down to. >> they are taking a look. it will get taken away. no score. that will be a touch at 7.91, devastating result on that replay for locklin richardson, but that is why they do this and
2:24 am
next up, derek kolbaba will flays slinger it junior and we heard earlier in terms of the fact that he has some advice from you earlier. >> we have helped him a lot and we are talking about this you can see on the left-hand side of your screen his pinky is in the middle of this bulls back and that's where he wanted to be. look over here where he's in trouble. his hand has rolled all the way across this bulls back and that is not good. he will never make the whistle if his rope slides like that, so what he has to do is pretend this chair is the bulls back and i can ride this one, but i want my pinky in the middle of his back. as this bull turns to the left and comes into me everything will work perfect, but if the rope slides an inch it will be too much and i will have to touch the bull and won't get a score. >> that is the smoothest ride you have ever made, partner.
2:25 am
derek kolbaba can take that advice to the bank, already leading the two were. you win a blue death event and you guarantee your spot here in the majors and we will have a number of those guys at iron cowboy a couple weeks from now, but the great thing is we have all seen that have had a chance to talk to derek kolbaba is that he is having fun, but also willing to learn and it is smart he listens to guys like you. >> it is not something-- i think derek kolbaba writes good and i want to see him succeed and when you see one little thing that can fix it all instead of trying to work out 10 things that were not even wrong to begin with and you can fix the problem like that and it's a very minute amounts that he needs to pull on his rope tighter. >> derek kolbaba, 19 years old coming into the weekend ranked eighth in the world and slinger junior is slow in this around,
2:26 am
his career. >> this is a tough bull. >> didn't need to travel very far before derek kolbaba without a position. he did not have a lot of time to look about rope position position, but what did you see? >> i seen that bull that is steadily becoming one of the hardest bulls to ride in the pbr. i have seen him do this to j.b. mauney, you name it he has done it to a lot of the great guys. i've like where his hand set and now he probably feels like a jerk because he was bucked off, but that is a really great bull. >> great example and it does not matter sometimes how much prep you put into it before the gate swings open, when bulls are good that is all you can do. kaique pacheco has mastered his task here in st. louis and he is your bad boy lead dog. >> still to come, fan favorite

sports at the at&t pebble beach. >> one qualified right here at the st. louis bucking battle with the bulls having their way so far. kasey hayes hoping to change all of that and will be yet again a tall task going up against spotted demon, this bull has bucked off 15 in a row. >> it's a really tough bull and should be around to the rights. will move the forward and do whatever it takes, whatever he feels out of the rider is how he will react. kasey hayes when you look at it, go he probably doesn't have much of a chance against this bull, but this is kasey hayes we are talking about. never can tell. >> he just took a week off because of the right shoulder
2:31 am
tough on every level. spotted demon just working. on any given day riding a bull's tough enough, but doing it with a separated shoulder takes a lot of guts. >> yet about to rise before he had to go he still did not have his best on because he was so relaxed. he's been in the sport for 12 years and he was not worried and is taking everything very methodically. it just did not work out to his advantage to the end. >> he gets to watch his good friend j.b. mauney attempt to ride, but once again the pendulum slides to the bulls. this is wallace de oliveria getting a chance to ride crossfire. this bull, has-- however, has bucked off 17 in a row. >> this bull just keeps getting better. this is the kind of bull that
2:32 am
player for bull of the year. >> speaking-- speaking of bull of the year, already starting to assemble a who's who list, crossfire is on their in terms of the top of bulls to keep an eye on and even though we have not seen astroid, based on reputation he deserves to be in the number one spot. many have all had at least one noun 2016. back to wallace, see what he can do, an event winner this season that happened in chicago and when he was in anaheim-- oh, boy with the protection crossfire with a couple of body blows if not head shots. it will be amazing if he can even come back from that and i
2:33 am
eduardo aparecido and kai eq were there to help study him, but they do not have a hold of his best. >> and he takes it, one big one right there. i don't think that we've got him if that is the second one, but crossfire does not let up and you have to get tough in the bucking chute. he is just taking it right here at this point. you have to get out of there on your owning you can't depend on your buddies to help you. >> we will give you an update on wallace's condition when we can and that means we make it quick transition to our defending pbr world champion, j.b. mauney, who in seconds will get aboard sheep creek and shorty, this format suits a guy like j.b. mauney who can't say enough how he much enjoys the big moments. >> he does. this is a guy that thrives when pressure is on the line and when you need a touchdown to win the
2:34 am
the clock, he is a guy you want to throw the ball to. he got on sheep creek and got bucked off him for a chance when $10 million and i talked to about it in this a bullet really buck's uphill and j.b. mauney said he got a little out of control with his free arm and he got his hips turned and that's why he got bucked off. a lot of times j.b. mauney makes it sound easy, this is a great student of the game and you can bet your bottom dollar this guy knows exactly what he needs to do to ride this bull. >> and you know as well as anyone, one of the things j.b. mauney loves as much if not more than big moments is a chance for payback. >> absolutely and here's a big chance. this bull as he gets closer, he can get really bad in the shoot and i don't know if j.b. mauney
2:35 am
that way. this is the kind of bull that can wear you out in the shoot. >> this bull has not had many outs on the built ford tough series, but in his career he is underwritten zero 418. >> he is a great bull. i have seen them in the world finals last season and this is a really really good bull. again, he is so good that if he gets leaning on you a bit of an advantage out of the shoot he will win. >> we don't often see j.b. mauney rewrap. what to do notice? >> i didn't have a real good view, but i think j.b. mauney did not like where his hand was in the bull was leaning against there and probably wouldn't stand up and tell j.b. mauney
2:36 am
and let this bull stand back up. he will put his hand back and that rope and before this bullnose what's going on he will slide up there and not his head. i think he will not on the way to his rope. >> torn ligaments in his free hand some and you can see the cast, but j.b. mauney could never use that as excuse nor would any other bull rider. the underwritten streak is over. j.b. mauney continues to address a bull that had never been written and bucked off j.b. mauney before. j.b. mauney puts another notch in his belt. >> it's ridiculous how good this guy is. this bull has got every opportunity in the world to buck
2:37 am
the entire ride he just refused to let the bull buck him off. that was great stuff. >> for the third weekend in a row, he registers a ride north of 90 and he becomes our leader. >> what was the formula? >> stay on. i don't know how that worked, but it did. >> did you make a correction their? >> no, last time i got on him he bucked me right off and this time i kept my hand shut a little longer. >> well done. >> simple formula. often equates with great results for j.b. mauney, just aion, 90 and a quarter with the new bad boy leader and now it's time for wallace de oliveria and miraculously it seems to get back aboard crossfire and to try his hand yet again. >> no one will question wallace de oliveria's toughness, that's
2:38 am
he took to really hard to shots and now it so important to maintain the focus because after taking shots like that it would be easy to be a bit skittish. >> this time kaique pacheco has bolted both the front and back of his best. leah, this is a sport for the strong of heart. >> i asked his buddies how he is doing and he said you should ask how the shoot is doing. this guy is tough meaning he is so strong they are not worried about him. they are worried about whatever he tends to touch or hit. >> wallace coming into the weekend six overall and already there's successful in st. louis with a few registered rides. you just heard of the directives, let's go. it goes crossfire's way this time against about brazilian.
2:39 am
impressive career, underwritten 18 straight buckoff. >> downright around here, no weight on his feet, pulled him over his shoulder, but i really liked that matchup and i look forward to the day when those to mix it up again. >> we started the show talking about a couple pbr heavyweights into legends. j.b. mauney has done his job, 90 and a quarter about dashboard sheep creek. astroid already has a world title and a reputation, so why make another run next well, when you are this good, why not? >> coming up, one of the pbr gratis bulls is back. the 2012 bull of the year astroid. >> astroid with two world titles on the line. there is your answer, world.

2:41 am
2:42 am
st. louis. >> there is her answer, world. >> it's been a year in the making and we are going to get to see astroid yet again, chad berger owning this legendary bull and of those stats, well, he is already want to remember for the ages. >> remember the great battles he had with bushwhacker. so, he has been a great bola night talk to chad earlier and he told me he would like to get about 50 more pounds of muscle on him. >> j.b. mauney has all the muscle he needs and is our current of bad boy leader dog in the number one position. back to the last guy to get a successful right on astroid, 3b
2:43 am
one 15/15 bucking battle and a lot of people were starting to ask as we see during it ready a lot of people were wondering where he has. >> he is having a lot of trouble with his hand. >> this 15/15 format, the 15 best riders against the 15 best bulls and at the moment based on the world standings erin roy against crazy days. >> crazy days, not the best out, but it was enough to get the canadian off his back right around the five seconds. >> we talked in the open about how j.b. mauney gets in time with these bulls and makes it look so easy. that exactly what aaron was doing with this ride and that he misses at one time and it changes everything and then the bull bucks him off, but for half of the ride he was doing everything so perfect that sometimes it gets a little easy for a guy and he lets up.
2:44 am
>> crazy days has had a good year taking care of kaique pacheco who has a score in this round as well as shayna proctor in one of the lower to hurt event in denver. right now, joao ricardo vieira against the one and only astroid. they have met three times before and it has always gone the bull's way. >> that is one bull where you never know what he's going to do. that is what makes him so great and his athletic ability. >> we always talk about these bulls as athletes and the great bulls can think just as often as good as the riders that are on their backs. it is the return of the 2012 world champion bucking bull. three years ago astroid was
2:45 am
rider now, but is he good enough astroid says: i met back. 2.9 seconds and for the fourth time he takes care of joao ricardo vieira and how impressed were you? >> i was pretty impressed. i don't think that's as good as he can be, but i thought he was really really good. remember, joao ricardo vieira, we talked about him being so strong. that was his chance. he could not write him past two seconds. >> that is the lowest score we have seen so far this season. astroid and chad berger are now 18. watch out, built ford tough series. >> the bull with outstanding. >> we were wondering what it would be like after so long of the time off and i think he answered a lot of questions right there. >> and what he has done is shown

trailer hitches. >> the sill be a feature throughout the season. bmw will give us a look at the lighter side of the riders, away from the shoot. j.b. mauney, the bad boy lead dog trying to win his first ever 15/15 bucking battle. saviano came into the weekend here second overall in the world standings and this is a man who at times in his career has been number one in the world and he has also won here in st. louis, one of a dozen career wins. this guy has the heart of a champion that we talk about. he knows what to do next. >> he is really tough. this is a guy that for the past couple years has been fighting tray shoulder injury that he needs to get sakes, but he can
2:51 am
he rides really good. he seen his buddy when the event in new york city with a great matchup. >> even with that shoulder, he is the only two time event winner this season, so clearly he is doing something right and it is something a lot better week in and week out. j.b. mauney, the bad boy lead dog, 90 and a quarter and there he goes. he is on the clock again. >> that has been his achilles' heel, taking too long in the shoe. >> he did a great job to duck and cover after a quick buckoff. the bull meant business today. >> a really big, really strong bull and when he jumps that far
2:52 am
right here. his upper body never broken went forward with the bull, so it brought him from way back and just as long him out there. made that one look pretty scary. >> as we watch this over, other than try to lean as far back as possible, is there anything you can do? >> you need to go as far forward as possible to keep you from jerking him over his head. you have got to be up over top of him and that's what we call getting out over the bulls. >> well, he meanders away from the arena and j.b. mauney mauney has one ride to watch. before he gets his first ever win in a 15/15 bucking battle. he has to wash it the current world number one, paulo lima, facing off against wicked. >> i think the bull will start
2:53 am
he has a bull that if that is not working he will jump out and try something different. >> trend three a couple weeks ago was dispensed by after party and wiccan only ridden to out of his last 16. paulo lima loses his grip in the hand comes out of the rope, which means for the first time ever in his career j.b. mauney wins a 15/15 bucking battle and what a statement it was, only two guys ride, j.b. mauney the best at 90.25 on sheep creek. >> it was really a great ride. it was all effort right there. >> it has been a year already. highlight reel moments for j.b.
2:54 am
to a win. >> the 15/15 bucking battle has remained a gap in j.b. mauney's winning success. how import was it but this together? >> it doesn't matter whether it's a long round, short round, where you are ott, you have to ride everywhere you get on and that's what they asked me today, they said you have never one one of these and i guess the other guys are better than me. >> your patience to wait it out, you always do well on the stage when the lights are the brightest. explain your mindset? >> 15/15, that's where you separate the man from the boys and where the rankings bulls will be every single time and you know when you nod your head you have your chance and if your motor is not running to get on one of these bulls, then you better quit riding. >> congratulations. >> thank you. >> a great way to add to the resume due to the excess extra points in the 15/15 bucking battles and j.b. mauney was all
