driving habits to save lives. another reason to reduce your speed gas prices made a big jump overnight. yesterday, you could fill up your tank for a dollar-56 a gallon in des moines. today, it will cost you a dollar-69 a gallon. him aaa says the national average for a gallon of gas is going up too as the price of crude oil rebounds. testimony continues today in the alexander fazzino trial. the former boone man is charged with first degree murder in his wife emily's death. she was found dead in their home 4 years ago. jurors heard different stories from alexander and emily's sister. video of investigators questioning alexander shows him saying his wife's prescription drug abuse was putting 'stress' on them. emily's sister denies she was using drugs. a des moines man is charged in the deaths of his wife and daughter after spending the last 3 months in the hospital. 47-year-old barney fraaken faces two counts of first degree

in court this morning. he's being held in the polk county jail on 2 million dollars bond. 42-year-old amy fraaken and 16-year-old amber fraaken were shot to death in their home back in november. barney fraaken reportedly tried to take his own life. he was taken to the hospital where he's been treated until yesterday. steve: the des moines police have several suspects in custody following an overnight armed-robbery. it happened around a.m. at the git n go at 865 42nd street. a clerk says she recognized one of the 3 suspects as a regular customer and roosevelt high school student. one of the suspects reportedly pointed a gun at the clerk while another grabbed cash from the register. the robbery was caught on store surveillance cameras. officers are still investigating. fire investigators are trying to figure out why a vacant house erupted in flames early this morning. it happened around 3:00 a.m.. at 78th street in urbandale.

temperatures pushing up. at 49 degrees for a high on friday. 60 two on saturday. we stay in the 50's sunday and monday. stacey: news around iowa the iowa state patrol says a driver died in a crash after a piece of road debris went through the windshield of a suv. the accident happened yesterday afternoon on i-80 in davenport. troopers aren't saying what the debris was. authorities are identifying a bloomfield woman killed in a 3 vehicle head on crash tuesday morning. the iowa state patrol says 63-year-old marilyn roberts of missouri didn't see a stopped vehicle, and swerved to miss it. she hit a pick-up truck head on. roberts and the driver of the pick-up, 82-year-old forest lawson of bloomfield were hurt. 79-year-old carolyn lawson, a passenger in the pick-up, was killed. the crash remains under investigation. a retired iowa state trooper has been given probation and a

official response. aixa: apple is asking a federal judge to withdraw her previous order, while the fbi director says he needs the company's help to thoroughly investigate the san bernardino attack. testifying about worldwide threats, fbi director james comey told the house intelligence committee there are no demons in the dispute between his agency and apple. >> i think conversation and negotiation is the key to resolving this, this is the hardest question i've seen in government. the fbi wants apple to help investigators hack into the locked phone of one of the san bernardino killers. >> two people have killed other folks in a terrorist attack and you're just trying to get through the security code. >> there's a legitimate worry though that a decision in favor of the fbi could be the narrow end of a very wide wedge. comey says his agency is only asking for a way to access one particular phone. >> the san bernardino litigation is not about us trying to send a message or establish some precedent, it really isn't.

leahy at the white house tuesday. steve: in commitment 2016 news. the 5 remaining republican presidential candidates meet again on the debate stage tonight in houston texas. it's marco rubio, ted cruz, john kasich, and ben carson's last chance to take on frontrunner donald trump, before super tuesday. cnn is hosting the debate. it starts at 7:30 iowa time. texas is one of 12 states making its presidential pick on tuesday. new poll numbers from monmouth university, show ted cruz leading donald trump in texas, 38% to 23%. in florida, quinnipiac university poll numbers show trump leading marco rubio, 44 to 28%. and in ohio, a quinnipiac university poll shows trump leading the state's governor, john kasich, 31 to 26%. new at 5:00, walmart is pulling hover-boards from its website. the move comes after the government's warning the devices pose a fire risk.

a washington state woman made a pretty interesting discovery in her dinner. lindsay hasz was eating at a restaurant when she bit into something hard in a clam. it looked like a pearl so she took it to a local gemologist. >> he thought i was joking. he thought it looked so round and perfect that someone was playing a joke on me. it was not a joke. steve: the gemologist determined that it was a rare quahog purple pearl worth about 600 dollars. him hasz says she plans to keep it and make a necklace. we're back next with a final check of the forecast.
