switching to heroin. >> not be afraid to talk to your a street drug anymore. it's all of our problem. everyone. elizabeth: since this database started, doctor-shopping has the program is working on expanding its database by sharing databases with more states to better track patients. eric: right now, officials are searching for 2 escaped inmates from the newton correctional center. michael amodeo and jessy foley were discovered missing around 10:00 saturday night. amodeo is serving a 10 year sentence on drug related charges. foley is serving a 27 year sentence also for drug related charges. about their whereabouts call 911. a knoxville township man recovering after receiving third degree burns on his leg. officials say the man was working on his car this afternoon when gas leaked out and he caught fire.

crews arrived. the men had to be airlifted to iowa city to receive burn treatments. and a boil advisory for prairie city in jasper county. the city administrator says the water tower lost pressure overnight. that left some homes without water. city leaders say this is a precautionary measure. the advisory is in effect until testing is complete on tuesday. elizabeth: testimony continues today in the alexander fazzino murder trial. the former boone man is charged with first degree murder in his wife emily's 2012 death. friday jurors learned more about emily's injuries. fazzino told police he found his wife submerged in a bathtub. the doctor who performed emily's autopsy testified she had bruises on her forehead arm -- forehead, arm, by and neck. -- arm thigh and neck. , the doctor also said she had bruising on the inside of her throat which could be from a

-- from strangulation. the doctor didn't find definitive signs of drowning. also today johnston and grimes residents should expect detours on a major metro road. sections of northwest 70th avenue are closing around 100th and 107th streets for construction. the road is being widened as part of a larger project to improve the area of the new johnston high school. the closures and detours start at 9:00 a.m. health officials say it's spreading at unprecedented speeds here in iowa zika virus cases doubled friday. eric: three people have now tested positive. kcci's marcus mcintosh reports all 3 are women between the ages of 41 and 80 who traveled to a country where that virus is present. marcus: with three confirmed cases of the mosquito born zika virus in the state of iowa experts say we should be careful but are far from panic mode. >> i would be very surprised if it got established in the united states, but there is always that chance. marcus: dr. quinlisk stresses the seriousness of the zika virus for women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant due to a birth defect called microcephaly where a baby's head

babies with microcephaly often have smaller brains that might not have developed properly. >> once that acute disease goes away we have no indication that future pregnancies would be at risk. marcus: we went to gray's lake to find out what central iowans have to say about the 3 cases of the zika virus at home. >> it is something you need to be aware of and you need to take precautions against it. marcus: precautions that include protecting yourself against mosquitoes if you travel to puerto rico, virgin islands, caribbean, central and parts of south america by wearing pants long sleeved shirts and using mosquito repellant with deet. iowans say being careful is key but the zika virus is not the first nor will it be the last public health concern. >> i wouldn't say it is something to get worked up about because we saw h1n1 that got a little out of hand and i don't think this is anywhere near that. marcus: in des moines, marcus mcintosh, kcci 8 news, iowa's news leader. eric: nationally a strong warning from health officials for pregnant women who want to attend the olympics in rio this summer. a new travel advisory is the strongest one the cdc has issued to date. it's triggering new concern for

little bit of snow to fog -- two fall across the state. tomorrow, a little bit of snow early on. republican presidential criticism after he refused to distance himself from a controversial endorsement. elizabeth: meanwhile don champion reports a new cbs news poll shows trump and clinton leading in key states ahead of super tuesday. don: republican front-runner donald trump campaigned in alabama sunday afternoon. earlier he appeared on cnn's state of the union and refused to denounce an endorsement from former kkk leader david duke. >> i'm just talking about david duke and the kkk. >> i don't know. i don't know david duke. i don't believe i've ever met him. and i just don't know anything about him. don: other republican candidates slammed trump for not condemning the support. >> there is no place in the conservative movement for david

>> this is iowa's news leader. this is kcci 8 news this morning with eric hanson, elizabeth klinge, meteorologist kurtis gertz and right now coverage with shaina humphries. metinka: good morning. temperatures are starting out above freezing. pretty nice out. 33 now in des moines. we have a few clouds. that brees will be helping to warm temperatures up, at least through about midday. clouds will be on increase by the afternoon, heading for highs close to 55 degrees. the brees will become more northerly. that will be dragging in the more interesting type of weather . today is going to be a great start to the week. snow will move through overnight. another chance of snow on thursday. elizabeth: thanks metinka. a jarring wake-up call for an omaha boy overnight. eric: an suv came crashing through his bedroom wall. the driver arrested on suspicion

camila orti reports a decision the boy made a few hours before the crash made all the difference. camila: a neighbor's surveillance cameras are rolling as an out-of-control suv tears around a corner, swerves through a lawn and takes out a street sign near north 61st and park lane, all before 3:00 sunday morning. this is where the vehicle ended up. >> i heard a big old boom and then like sizzling noises. camila: the front bumper breaking through the wall of 12-year-old jeffrey moore's bedroom a couple feet from where he was sleeping. >> i just seen this car right here all pushed in. camila: he says it could have been closer. so you're telling me just hours before he crashed through here your bed was on this side. >> yes. camila: the boy moving his bed to the other side of the room right before going to sleep that night. >> thankfully he did, so it's a

camila: jeffrey's mother says police were on scene within minutes and took the man behind the wheel into custody. >> he's like my car my car and i am like you almost killed my kid. what do you mean my car? i'm just glad that we're all ok and we can walk away from it . elizabeth: a vigil in hesston , kansas sunday night for the victims of thursday's deadly shooting spree. police say three people were killed and 14 others wounded most of them were shot at the excel plant. investigators say the suspect cedric ford worked there. they believe ford was ticked off by a restraining order from a former girlfriend that he received the same day. one of the victims sister-in-law says the family is working to continue on in his name. >> josh will never die from us . we will continue to keep josh alive in our hearts and do everything that we know josh would do to raise his son to be the man that josh was.

industries might re-open. the suspected gunman was killed in a shootout with the harvey county sheriff. eric: new numbers show colorado's tourists aren't just buying weed now that it's legal they're ending up in emergency , rooms at higher rates than residents. physicians found the rate of emergency-room visits related to marijuana doubled among out of state residents during 2014. there was only a slight change among colorado residents. doctors say there needs to be more education about pot aimed at visitors. in alaska boards began accepting applications for marijuana business licenses this week. it's the next step in setting up the state's legal pot industry. alaska joins colorado, oregon and washington as the only states with legal recreational use. elizabeth: here in iowa a bill allowing cannabis oil to be made and distributed is headed to the full house. the bill allows for two dispensaries. severe epilepsy, m.s. and

be mild. heading into the 50's in central iowa. it will be breezy and the winds will shift. temperatures will be falling toward the evening did the clouds roll in ahead of a cold front. later some precip is on the way. by 6:00 a.m., we will be tracking light rain along with light snow. by 10:00 p.m., we will have light snow mixed with rain from fort dodge down through des moines. this will spread off to the south east. already by 2:00 a.m., all of the precip should be east. with all of the gusty winds, it it will impacting travel north of highway 20 late tonight. there will be some flurries left over tomorrow morning followed by a quite day. we'll have speckles moving in,

it will feel like winter. highs will only feel like the 30's tomorrow. eric: a memorial is set up tonight in prince william county virginia to honor fallen officer ashley guindon. she was shot saturday on her first day back on the job. elizabeth: an army staff sergeant is behind bars now facing murder charges in her death and the death of his wife. brian webb has more. brian: bagpipes, candles and prayers were part of a memorial for officer ashley guindon killed on her first day on patrol with the prince william county police department in virginia. >> we will move on in honor of ashley. it would be a discredit to her to do anything less. >> one officer down. i don't know where the suspect is. brian: guindon and two other

about 30 miles outside of washington, dc. police arrested 32-year-old ronald hamilton an active duty army staff sergeant assigned to the pentagon. they say he shot and killed his wife then opened fire on police. , >> it was very scary. i heard the shots like 4 to 5 shots back to back. brian: yellow tape roped off the crime scene sunday. residents paid their respects at the hospital where the officers are recovering. >> to have this happen over something stupid is so sad. brian: guindon, a 6 year marine corp reservist, was sworn in friday. this picture was posted to the department's twitter page welcoming her and another officer with the words, "be safe." exline -- safe."

another warm one but changes in the air. we are starting out at 33. by the afternoon, the winds will be shifting back to the north. clouds will be rolling in. g5. temperatures will be falling -- high of 55. temperatures will be falling. and little bit to the south there of highway 20. eric: new this morning des moines police are investigating a late night shooting on the east side that sent one person to the hospital. officials say it happened around 10:30 last night on the 1400 block of east 17th court. one person was shot and taken to iowa methodist. we're still waiting to hear more on that victim's current condition as well as any information about a possible suspect. stick with kcci for updates. right now in newton police are searching for two escaped inmates. officials say michael amodeo and jessy foley were discovered missing from the newton correctional center around 10:00 saturday night.
