palin endorses donald trump for president. reaction to the big move, coming up. and looking ahead to sunday for the rematch, this time for a shot at the super bowl. why the broncos are full of confidence. and we have some forecast questions we'll get to as well. >> we certainly do. let's start with what's happening today, chris, and there could be more moisture in the forecast. >> absolutely. we continue with a very active jet stream coming into the region, meaning more mountain snow and some clouds for denver, maybe a little rain this afternoon as we get into the later afternoon and evening hours. it's going to be touch and go, some scattered showers. temperatures this morning, 34

collins and 27 in akron. we're mild for most of the state, a lot of us in the teens and 20s, limon with 14 degrees, 29 in grand junction. today's forecast, snow in the high country. it's out there this morning but it's decreased a bit. it will ramp up again toward the noon hour as another wave of moisture comes in. looking for denver today, looking at scattered showers today. >> thank you. look at the drive up in the high country, our big concern this morning. if you get to i-70 at the rest area at vail, icy there. we have traction restriction for passenger vehicles eastbound getting to the eisenhower tunnel. and across the metro, not too bad a drive, a little slowing through the express lanes

>> i'm beginning to wonder if the folks running those cameras are watching our morning news. at least 20 students are dead in pakistan after an attack in northwest pakistan. four attackers were killed by government troops and the pakistani government claimed university. what made a woman stab a denver fire police chief? that's the question this morning after law enforcement arrested the woman who did this in broad daylight. jamie leary is tracking this developing story for us an she's live near fire station 1, where this happened.

attacker will be facing a judge in court. we are told the injuries were superficial, which is surprising because he was in a pretty vulnerable situation. it was about 1:30 p.m. yesterday, we're told chief tade was leaving station 1 to pick up his kids. while stopped at a stoplight, police say the 42-year-old marlene zacevich-rodriguez jumped into his unmarked suv armed with a knife and began to attack tade. he jumped from the vehicle and ran to the fire station for help as witnesses watched the suv roll until it came to a slow stop with the doors open. it was those witnesses who helped police track down rodriguez. >> we had some witnesses on the scene who pointed us in the direction of the female suspect

at this time we don't know what the motive was. >> reporter: we do know this suspect has a criminal record, a dui and several arrests for assault and domestic violence charges as well. as far as the chief, he is recovering at home in good spirits. investigators are still trying to determine if there is a connection between the chief and alleged attacker. we'll continue to follow the story. jamie leary, cbs morning news news. >> thank you. we're going to give them hell. >> reporter: donald trump is touting his biggest endorsement yet, from former vice presidential nominee sarah palin. >> he's perfectly positioned to let you make america great again. are you ready for that, iowa? no more pussyfooting around. our troops deserve the best.

in new hampshire. don champion, cbs news. >> clinton is expected to spend four days in iowa and one in new hampshire. shawn chitnis is with us this morning to talk about an important transit meeting. >> reporter: alan, city leaders admit colfax avenue is crowded and that's why they want to look at how they can make this busy stretch better for everyone, not just people who use buses but those who drive or walk in the area or even use their bike. they want to look at what they can do for the area and they are talking about the colfax corridor from i-25 to i-225. there are busy spots at these two locations, construction

moment. a research team spent the past year and a half studying what can be done to make this section of colfax better. they want the make improvements that will make a difference now and also over the next 25 years. the first meeting to hear from the public is tonight at 5:30 in denver. they are going to have some results from their study there as well. that's at the knights of columbus hall on grant street starting at 5:30. there will be another meeting in aurora around the same time tomorrow. shawn chitnis, cbs 4 morning news. police at cu boulder are asking for help identifying a man accused of groping a female student outside the economics building. police say this man in the gray hoodie grabbed the victim and tried to kiss her without consent.

the attacker ran but not before security cameras got a good look at him. you're asked to contact authorities if you know who that might be. the csu rams basketball coach says the team and the school will do what it can to support one of its players who suffered a terrible loss. yesterday this fire in maryland killed the parents and twin nieces of emmanuel imogbo at a home the family was renting. officials say the home didn't have any working smoke detectors. he's a junior in his first year with the rams. a young woman from denver is putting her life on hold to help refugees fleeing syria and afghanistan. her efforts began as a year- long sabbatical in europe and
