thanks to the gusty winds, we have warmer temperatures. 54 degrees in boulder. if the winds die down, i expect a drop in temperature. when they pick back up, temperatures will warmup. 38 degrees at dia. 31 burlington. 41 in the springs. 20 in led ledville. our cold spot, 8 below in gunnison and 21 over in grand junction. on our satellite and radar, skies clear. and we're going to stay that way today. could get a mountain wave cloud to develop thanks to the gusty winds off the foothills and high country. warm temperatures. 63 degrees by noon. 64 by 2:00. and we're in the 50s by 5:00 tonight . we have a warm week ahead. we'll talk more about that in a moment, right now, joel hillan is tracking our morning drive. >> all this warm weather has led to great road conditions on the roads this morning. they're dry. if you're heading to the high country, you're going to see the camera shaking near genesee. we're across the denver metro area. look at the green we have, slowing as you

getting between i-70 and us 36. look at the foothill drive. >> let's go to breaking news in port collins. two people in the hospital after being stabbed. there's no one in custody. this is happening near prospect road in the 1600 block of stover street. that's a mile from the csu campus. shawn chitnis live there. shawn, what can you tell us? >>reporter: well, alan, we understand this happened just before midnight and now hours later, you can see there's a busy scene here as police with fort collins police department come in and out of this area continuing to monitor the situation. as you mentioned, we know there are two people who are being treated with injuries -- being treated for their injuries and they're being treated for the medical center

police are investigating this crime to try and figure out who is responsible, if it's one person, more than one person. no one is in custody at this point. all we know is this happened before midnight at a home here on this street. stover in the 1600 block. that's the part of the street that remains closed at this hour as police work and figure out what may have happened here. in this area where i'm standing, there's a school and a parking lot that's going to be effected slightly because of the scene that's here, and police continuing to collect evidence, talk to witnesses and have to close off part of this area. so as that school gets ready to open, part of this street will be closed, but the school will be opened and parent and students will have access to that parking lot. be prepared for part of that street to be closed. live in fort collins, shawn chitnis.

house democrats will hold a hearing regarding the water crisis in flint michigan. the governor is asking for $200 million to solve the problem. he's not committed to replacing all the pipes. kim hutchingson says the flint's mayor is not happy. >> all the pipes in the city of flint needs to be replaced. >> weaver did not mix words as she -- >> i'm announcing the fast start plan. it's an estimated $55 million project to remove and replace flint's residential led pipes as quickly as possible >> on wednesday, governor rick snyder will ask legislatures for an additional $195 million to deal with the problem. but he hasn't thrown his support behind pipe replacement yet. he'll commit to reviewing the proposal according to a spokesman who

are coated with a chemical to prevent erosion before determining which lines should be replaced. snyder says he isn't proposed to weaver's plan. >> it's more of a question of doing it in an organized, scientific and engineering correct passion. >> weaver pulled no punches in her response. >> we can't wait for that. we don't trust that and we deserve new pipes. i cannot emergency that he would not support this plan. if he doesn't, shame on him. >> meanwhile, the team investigating the crisis for michigan's attorney general says criminal charges could be filed. >> the involuntary manslaughter or death that may have happened to a young person or older person because of this poisoning to misconduct in office. sanders and trump -- they're stunned for the results. here's weijia jiang.

place between cruz, rubio and bush is still pretty close, but the latest figures we're seeing, bush and rubio with 11% right now. broncos don't want to rush manning about retiring, but there's definitely a costly deadline looming. manning's non guaranteed $19 million deal will become guaranteed if he's on the rosters as of march 9th. the broncos cut his salaries and have no intention of paying that high of price. if you have to believe the broncos would love manning to retire clearing the way for osweiler to retire. osweiler played well when manning was hurt. and the coach did a good job matching the players and the quarterback. >> manning was hurt, and i mentioned that over and over again when we got to kansas city. it was an ongoing situation week in and week out.

a plane destined to san diego was diverted because of a drunk and threatening man. the airliners taken off from boston. passenger rebecca sheppard took this video from her cell phone as police came onboard and took the intoxicated man off the plane. there were a few cheers as that happen the plan after. in our cbs 4 morning news -- new evidence from researchers in europe says taking a common ingredient in tylenol could asthma. there's a link between asthma development around age 3 and being exposed to the painkiller while in the uterus. task oriented rehab may not be -- new research from doctors in california found very little

patients after a year in rehab. a teenage cross country runner in minnesota who almost died on the track is not only alive this morning, but he's close to lacing up his shoes once again. he collapsed during practice last year. his heart stopped and he had to be flown to a hospital and put in a coma for three days. his coach, a former emt was close by and his father says he was close to dying. >> the activity were minimal. we weren't sure if he was going to walk, talk, get off a ventilator. >> a lack of oxygen to his brain did serious damage. next week, he's set to find out if doctors will let him race again in time for the spring season. it's a miracle. >> lawyer went the weather. >> it's going to be gorgeous and windy. that's the only thing that puts a damper on temperatures in the 60s today.

major delays to deal with anywhere. that's good news. the cold spots are going to be the midwest. we're looking at snow there. minneapolis, 17. 13 in chicago. we have snow and chilly temperatures and some wind into the northeast. we're looking at snow. it has cooled into the southeast. 31 degrees in nashville. 41 in atlanta. a different picture as you head west. 74 in las vegas and 85 in loss angeles and -- 85 in los angeles and it's going to get cold as we head towards the weekend and the northeast. frigid temperatures expected. if you're traveling out this way over the next couple of days, it's going to get colder and colder as we head into valentine's day weekend. let's check with joel hill. he's been watching our drive. >> it's excellent drive if you're heading out to the airport this morning. take a look. this is along i-70,

inbound along pena boulevard. maybe some slowing on the approach of 286. >> joel, thanks very much. ahead the open, i'm checking in us stocks and they look like they're open after rough sledding lately. we have a pair of recalls from ikea. here's hanna daniels with today's money watch. >>reporter: unsuccessful watch as oil prices continue to tumble. ikea is recalling two ceiling lamps after 224 reports including 11 injuries from the retaining -- it causes the glad shade to fall. the recall includes the lamp sold from october 2012 to january of 2016. and the lock ceiling lamp sold from november 2002 through last month. ikea is urging customers to returning the lamps for a full return.

,, in fort collins. two people in the hospital after they were stabbed. police are looking for suspects. >> this is happening just off prospect road in the 1600 block of stover street a mile away from the csu campus. cbs 4 shawn chitnis is there. shawn, what can you tell us this morning? >>reporter: well, britt, hours after this happened, we still have a pretty busy scene as we have a few patrol cars here. we know the crime scene mobile -- this happened before midnight. there was a stabbing here in the 1600 block of stover. we understand it happened inside of a home on this street. two people injured and being treated

center at the rocky's in loveland. police are investigating this case. they don't have anyone in custody and haven't identified a suspect. unclear if it's one or two people that might be responsible or more for that matter. it's unclear who the suspect or the suspects may be in the case. police are working with the local schools in the area to try and make sure the impact isn't too much. here's what they had to say. >> so this 1600 block of stover is going to be closed. the school will have access. we're in contact with the school district to make sure people can get in here and get to school today. >> in fact, fort collins police tweeting out they're working with the school district. there's a few schools in the area, but most specifically, global academy and barton early childhood center are the two schools off this street. their parking lot is being effected by this crime scene, but again, police say that shouldn't impact parent's act to access the school or have the school functioning and be open later today.

shawn chitnis, cbs 4 morning news. also breaking overnight, police are working to get surveillance video after an armed robbery happened at a 7-eleven in southeast denver. it happened at 1:40 at the intersection of holly and florida. police say two men with guns and one other man robbed this store. police say the men were wearing bandanas and there were no injuries. thanks for joining us. it's ash wednesday. many of us will be outside running around. it's going to feel like spring outside. >> remember how much you enjoyed yesterday especially if you got out to the parade. here's lauren. >> alan, you're right. we had perfect weather for the parade. we couldn't have asked for better weather. some say they were too hot. temperatures are going to be warmer thanks to the gusty winds. broomfield, 36 miles-an-hour. as we shift more

bertha pass, winds at 43 miles-an-hour. from golden, to alan's park, winds at 20 to 28 mile an hour. the gusty winds are warming up. 55 in boulder. lots of just around that 32-degree mark and temperatures on the eastern plains, high country, 9. 20 in ledville and 21 in grand junction. it's going to be a warm day. mostly sunny today. there may be a few clouds this afternoon with a little mountain wave developing because of those gusty winds, but it shouldn't damper with our temperatures. we're looking at 64 degrees right around 2:00. so a great day ahead. the wind will be the only real issue for 65 degrees. it's not too bad out there. let's check with drive? hopefully not too bad. >> i have no issue with 60s. take a look at i-70 and kubeck. at the airport, it should be a

boston to san diego landed around 8:30. and while eventually it landed safely at its final destination at 11:30, passengers say they were nervous. at the this no idea where they were landing, but knew this guy needed to go. >> well, at one stage he got from his seat and he was moving towards another passenger on the plane, and a few minutes before that, he had turned around to the passenger behind him and was being abusive to him, and kind of looking for confrontation. but he didn't do anything. >> heath montgomery with dia says this was a customer service issue. there were no arrest made and no charges filed in relation to the incident. live at denver international airport, jaime leery, cbs 4 morning news. >> jaime, thank you for that. we're following a story as more than two dozen vehicles are

few weeks. they believe it may be the work of organized thieves. >>reporter: take a look at the man in this surveillance video. boulder police believe he and others captured on cameras are behind a recent rash of car thefts in the city. >> i had a spare key hidden and someone went through it and took my van. >> aaron is one of 26 victims according to boulder police spokesperson, shannon cordingly, these thieves strike across the city and in the middle of the night. >> we're positive it's an organized crime ring hitting this area, and taking the vehicles back to the denver metro area. >> a second camera shows the thieves driving a light-colored mini van. they believe they're using it. they're asking the public to keep an eye out on the van -- >> keeping your vehicle locked, keeping valuables out of sight.

,, it may be hard to believe, but cavities are the -- according to the cdc tooth decay, it's five times more common than asthma and seven times more common than hey fiver. some kids are having treatment come to their kids. >> what we're doing is easy and it doesn't hurt. >> easy -- she looks cool with her shade and she's pretty calm even though she's in a dental chair. >> this first grader is having her teeth screened for free at school. today, the mobile classroom at lancing elementary in aurora is a mobile dental office. >> 89% of our students receive free and reduce lunch which is how we keep track of poverty.

kids in need of dentistry. this program is funded by delta dental. they target kids as their molars are coming in. the director of kind says they shield the cavity from field. >> this year, chopper taper will serve children in 90 denver area schools and with the seal enters comes education. >> you have to brush your teethes. >> seal ant is almost 100% effective in preventing cavities. this wednesday, we're warming up. let's bring lauren on, good morning. >> it's going to be a windiest day of the week.

gusting up to 36 miles-an-hour in broomfield as you head towards boulder, winds up to 18 miles-an-hour. as we go into the high country, 31 in golden park. winds up to $43 mile an hour. a quick look at our wind future cast. you can see gust in the foothills. 40 to 50 miles-an-hour. in denver, we may see gust up to 5, maybe 30 miles-an-hour and even tonight, it's going to be windy in the foothills. the gusty spots could be 30 to 40 mile-per-hour winds. temperatures this morning, thanks to the winds has warmed up. 3 degrees in denver. 54 in boulder. 30 in port kol -- 30 in fort collins. 21 in grand junction. our cold spot with 15 below. on your satellite and radar, we have clear skies to start the

we're going to stay dry today and for the next several days. what may happen this afternoon, thanks to the stronger winds, we may see a mountain wave cloud, but overall, it should be inactive in terms of moisture. winds are going to be gusty. not as bad as today. we'll be breezy in denver. there could be another mountain wave tomorrow, but that's it. high pressure dominating the -- we're going to stay drive. 65 in denver. 50s and 60s on the eastern plains and south eastern colorado, some areas may cross into the 70s today as we head into the mountain area, a lot of 40s. 34 in steamboat. 41 in grand junction and 40 in meek er. taking a look at our 5-day forecast. 58 degrees. we stay in the 50s through the week and the weekend. 51 on sunday. we could warmup into the mid-to upper 6 0s once again next week.

>> we have our first accident of the morning from the waist water roof camera near i-25 and 8th. this is on the ramp to get onto northbound i-25 from 8th. it is slowing things down. they have been able to move that off to shoulder, and it looks like traffic is moving. that's it. look across the denver metro area, almost a solid shade of green meaning we're at or near posted speed limits. lauren was tracking the winds effecting the drive as you get along highway 170. and c 470 and near i-70 in town all the way up to the johnson and eisenhower tunnel. be prepared to be jostled around. joel, thanks a lot. the parade yesterday gave fans a chance to cheer on the broncos one final time this season and for one family, it gave them hope. our tom muskins

people are scared to adopt older kids, but she want to assure her future family that -- brittany is a creative child who is an amazing communicator and writer and she loves talking with people and sharing her thoughts in a daily journal. she likes to dress up and look presentable. she has dreams of graduating high school and going to college. here is what she tells me about family. >> maybe you do have a perfect image in your head, what would that be? >> i think of someone -- people who are going to support me. i have never found people like that. not even real people i have talked to, and so i don't know. i just -- i want someone who is accepting. not necessarily perfect, but people who are accepting. >> this little girl deserves a family and brittany learns to make a journal, so if you want to see this story, join me later
