picture of a warehouse fire in new jersey you won't believe. first of all, i think we have another incredible day in our forecast. >> it doesn't feel like winter anymore. it feels like spring. let's get to lauren who is tracking the forecast. good morning. >> good morning, it does feel like spring. we're heading into the 50s once again. yesterday, we were in the 60s. so cooler today, but not too bad. 33 out at dia. 28 in greeley. 32 towards burlington. 16 in va avon and looking at our wind speeds, it has been gusty in the foothills, but like boulder and golden, calmer. loveland pass still gusty. watch out for the pass areas and then throughout the afternoon, still a little windy in our foothills. satellite and radar shows cloud cover and temperatures today in the mid-to low 50s. we're slightly cooler than yesterday, but you get good winds, it may warm us up more. let's check with joel hillan. how is the

>> a great way to start out friday morning. i-70 and colorado. no real construction in your way. looking across the denver metro area, you can see colfax and jersey, there's an early accident. they're doing some recovery work there. and then 130th and corona, you see that at the top of our screen, that's another side street accident we have. britt, otherwise, look at the green we have across from that. thank you. we showed you a glimpse of what's happening in new jersey. let's go back out there live. this is an incredible video. this is a warehouse on fire here in new jersey in hillsborough here, and we understand this fire has been burning since yesterday afternoon. shortly before 3:00 is when it broke out. >> you see train cars nearby and they have to be worried about that. those are container cars so you don't though what's in there. i'm assuming they do by now. their firefighters keep watching a fire like this. this is one of the fires where they simply let it burn down because

you might as well let it burn out. the building totally destroyed and there are several businesses in here, we believe, including a container company in hillsboro. this is southwest of new york city this morning. and there you can see some evidence of freezing because the temperatures are cold there. so you have fire and then you have ice both in the same place in hillsboro this morning. we'll keep a watch on it and what's going on. this fire keeps burning. britt. thank you, newly released court documents re vealed more information about an attempted break-in at a prison guard's home in colorado springs. thomas was arrested in that case and he's the same man who was a person of interest in the prison director. karen morfitt has the latest. >>reporter: tom was as in a shootout with colorado springs. the shots came after an alleged

into the home of a former prison guard and gooley was parked in front of the home. he asked about the owners and claimed to lost his key to the george ranl and wanted help getting inside. in 2013, gooley was questioned the parolee who -- clemmons said a possible hit list and the circumstances surrounds guolee arrest raised questions. the corrections department said it alerted employees of the break-in attempt but had no concrete information that more action was needed. >> karen morfitt reporting. the department of corrections wouldn't say if the guard worked at the same prison at the same time guolee --

caused the school to tell those to stay home if they haven't been vaccinated. cbs 4 shawn chitnis is live at our capital as we take a closer look. big issue, shawn. >>reporter: absolutely, alan. this is a controversy issue and it will once again go here at the state capitol as lawmakers discuss what needs to happen and if it should be harder for parents to be able to opt out of their children not getting vaccinated. and this comes as that most recent issue happens at a denver school. this is at the merrill middle school where they were students sent home because they hadn't been vaccinated. a case of chickenpox broke out in denver, so school leaders asked those students who haven't been vaccinated to stay home. they want to make sure enough time has passed by. one child has chickenpox and it takes three weeks to pass before you're no longer at-risk. most of the

about having a student out of school for so long. school leaders say they'll have to wait until february 23rd, that's more than a week from now, to make sure that no one else has i'm at the state capitol, shawn chitnis, cbs 4 news. thank you, shawn. both democratic candidates, sanders and clinton will be in denver and attend a dinner for sanders will hold a rally for the public before. the doors open at 3:00. and last night, they debated and it came at a crucial time. contest came up in north carolina and soup uper tuesday is a couple of weeks ago. here's our shaun boyd. agreement. night. clinton and sanders agreed on a lot. they disagreed on logistic. clinton saying --

turned the cdc in fort collins this afternoon specifically the division there that studies the zika virus. the colorado center fought budget cuts by the obama administration that would have shut down the facility in fort collins since 2007. researchers have been actively fighting the zika virus on a global level. the zika virus is spreading through north america. they'll be allowed into the facility to see the work done to combat the zika virus. officials don't expect large outbreaks here in the u.s. -- they went from the proposed budget cuts that the senators fought to avoid to now requesting $1.8 billion in emergency funding to fight the zika virus. we'll be on hand for this tour this afternoon.

hospital is getting hemp oil treatment. the nunez family lives inial belligerent cushy. should days she would have 15 seizures. she was transported to children's hospital in colorado diagnosed with a rail form of epilepsy. the parents say the medicine she's on can harm her liver, so they asked the hospital to give her charlotte's web, cd oil. >> she's alert today and she's looking around today. and following our faces when we talk to her. and she's starting to interact more whereas to before when we hasn't given it to her, she was not reacting to it at all. >> the family hopes they can eventually get amelia off of regular medicine and use the she's apart of the case study looking at how children react to the oil, and any possible long-term effects.

at night can be bad for your sleep, but a study suggest checking your facebook during the day is also a problem. researchers at the university of california stay people who are not logging enough sleep at night are logging more time on the social media site during the day. this explains a lot, doesn't it. they say when you get less sleep, you're more likely to be distracted and when you're distracted, many of us go to facebook and the internet. >> that one kind of figures. here's lauren right now. your weather, lauren, pay attention. >> i put my phone down and tweet during the show. we're gusty out there. black hawk, winds close to 30 miles-an-hour. and you can see by the color contours we have stronger winds out there. it's going to be windy in our foothills. watch out for that along the mountain pass areas. 33 degrees right now in denver. 34 in boulder. we have 32 in burlington and in the mountains. gunnison at 6 me

welcome back. let's look at what's happening across the country. we're in for cold weather as you head into the midwest. today, we have colder air sinking. 11 is the high in minneapolis. sub zero tomorrow and into sunday. so it's going to be very cold in that area. cold into the northeast as well. they'll start to feel that today and tomorrow. and not too bad in the southeast. they'll get chilly as well. we're looking at snow in kentucky and into parts of tennessee and northern georgia. that will shift into the appalachians starting later today and tomorrow.

great weekend and we're looking at nice weather. right now, we have gusty winds at black hop. it will be windy in the foothills today and mostly likely through the weekend. that's the only bummer in weather department. otherwise, temperatures are pretty nice. looking at our temperatures for right now, we're starting off with 33 in denver. 34 in boulder. it's cooler in boulder this morning. but 16 in avon. 19 in ledville. 6 below in gunnison. 23 in grand junction and 32 burlington. on our satellite and radar, we have a few clouds and looking at mostly sunny to partly sunny skies. similar to yesterday. cooler out there today. we're looking at the mid-50s. 53 degrees by 2:00. 43 by 5:00. 9:00 tonight, we're just above freezing. pret ty pleasant day ahead. let's check with joel hillan. how is the drive going? >> in town, it's excellent. if you're expecting light volume for this commute today, if you're traveling into the high country, it's going to be a good drive.

to the eisenhower tunnel, but dry conditions and we expect that through the day. lauren's warning has been the winds no the high country, so watch out about that along i-70 along highway 103 and highway 40. here in town, we have a couple one at jersey and the other one at tower road. those may trip you we've had lane blockages due to this accident. on the highways, it has been excellent. you can turn on koa and 94.1. >> joel, thank you for that. the world health organization says the zika virus classifies as a global -- they say possible vaccines are at least 18 months away from large scale trials. some of the work though to fight this is done right here in colorado. jaime is looking into this this morning. good morning, jaime.

laboratory involved in the fight against the de-- in the zika virus is in colorado. it nearly had its funding slashed by the obama administration. two colorado senators responsible for fighting the funding slashes, that's republican senator -- democratic senator michael bennett and republican senate cory gardener. they're going to be touring this facility today to see what's currently being done to fight the zika virus. in 2007, researchers at this facility in fort collins, that's how long they've been fighting this zika virus on a global level and renewed sense of urgency as this is spreading through latin america. officials don't expect large outbreaks in the u.s. the problem is not a small one. the obama administration went from those proposed budget cuts that the senators want to avoid to now requesting $1.8 billion

will going to be at the colorado democratic annual dinner party interest sheraton downtown tomorrow night. administrators at a school in denver are telling unvaccinated students to stay home after -- colorado lawmakers take a closer look at the rules around these vaccinations. if i can get it out there. cbs 4 shawn chitnis is live. say it better than i did. >>reporter: i'll try. it's an issue that gets a lot of controversy going when we talk about parents choosing whether they want to have their kids vaccinated or opt off. lawmakers want to review this issue and actually have the department of public health be in charge of entire process. this comes as one school made the recent decision to send home students that hasn't been vaccinated. this is at merrill middle school in southeast denver. and in that situation, there was a case of chickenpox

leaders decided to ask all those students who hadn't been vaccinated to stay home for three weeks. this upcoming bill in the legislative session would make public health responsible for creating the forms related to vaccines. they'll keep track of student and vaccinations and parents would have to meet the requirements to get an exemption. parents have the right to opt out because of religious beliefs. schools would have to suspend any student without the required vaccines unless they have the proper paperwork. and if this bill passes, it would take effect on july 1st. live at the state capitol, shawn chitnis, cbs 4 news. >> thank you for sorting that out. a gun store owner turned reality star turned himself in. richard wyatt owns gunshot in -- he's accused of tax fraud and selling firearms without a license.

boxes of guns and ammunition during a raid. wyatt will be in jail until next tuesday. prosecutes don't want him going home until his guns are removed. we're learning the struggling regarding sports authority. two of the companies colorado distribution centers will be shut down. the workers say that sports authority are encouraging to look for other days. sports authority is paid dearly for having their name on high -- they're under contract to pay $6 million for the privilege for four more years. this morning, 33 degrees and more spring-like weather ahead going into the weekend. >> we have a lot to talk about with your weather. plus we'll follow traffic today and still scientist figures that albert einstein was right and they'll be able to prove it.

9 minutes from 120th to i-70 is not bad. you have space between the cars and that's led to the green as you get passed i-70 and around the stadium curb. a couple of trouble spots in colfax. we've still got this one at jersey. they've been doing some vehicle recovery, so i'm not sure if the car went off the side of the road there. across the denver metro area, look at the green we have up into the high country. that's the only concern is higher winds. we're used to that this week, britt. both hands on the steering wheel and enjoy the drive. >> thank you. for the first time, a baby in the nicu is receiving hemp oil treatment. amelia is the youngest patient to use -- >> amelia was born on december 7th, 2015. she had her first seizure a few days later.

then we just worked on trying to help get her back. >> after five-days at a local hospital, she was transported to children's hospital, colorado. she's been diagnosed with a rare form of epilepsy. >> it's about 15 seizures a day if she's not on seizure medicines. her heart stopped twice and that was probably the hardest part for us. >> her parents say the medication helps, but can cause liver disease. >> we're trying to use something different that's not so bad on her body. >> they found charlotte's web cbd oil developed by the stanley brothers in colorado. it doesn't have enough thc to make you high, but it's as successful and natural treatment. >> doctors read on it, we're hoping it works because it's a natural way and it will help her out a lot.
