it's going to be a windy day in denver. we could see gust up to 30 miles-an-hour, but the strongest winds in the foothills. bertha pass, woodland pass -- winds are 35 to 35 miles-an-hour. camacho know sha pass, the winds gusting up to 40 miles-an-hour. we have a high wind watch starting at 8:00 a.m. today. we have a high wind watch starting at 8:00. 37 in denver. 45 in boulder. 28 in burlington and starting the day with 36 in avon. 19 in gunnison. usually they're below zero at this point. 32 in craig. looking at our satellite and radar. a few clouds and mountain snow and cloud cover in denver. expect mostly sunny to partly sunny skies. 60 degrees. we'll get there around 2:00 this afternoon and a fairly mild day. it's going to be on the windy side. let's check with joel hillan. good morning.

? the -- you're fighting that snow in the foothills. you have to hut down both directions because of the adverse conditions. you should be able to get to the ski areas. make sure you have adequate tread on the tires. we're in the high country. look at the i-70 drive. lauren has been talking about the wind. we're getting that into the foothills, so that's going to effect highway 93, highway 72. those usual spots. we're across the denver metro area. slowing on i-25 for the express lanes project and a couple of ramp closures. but we have wind restrictions in place as you travel from i-70 out from bennett. if you have a high profile vehicle, something that's easily blown about by the wind, you have to sit it out for a bit. >> the wind is fierce. joel, thank you. payton manning's future is on the minds of football fans,

filed a lawsuit against the school saying it violated title 9 regulations in the way it handled reports sex related situations by student at lethalities. manning's name is in one paragraph of that paragraph. it reports sexual assault for -- she sued manning after the incident was talked about in a book. in 2002, the lawsuit was settled. we track breaking news. a mother killed and her teenage daughter recovering in the hospital. men ran a red light. shawn chitnis is at 80th and sheraton where this happened. shawn, police are searching for one of the men. >>reporter: britt, we know they're looking for one man and of course that one woman has died. to give you a sense of the impact. this happened at the intersection behind me in the distance where you see the red lights and the impact was so

this parking lot next to me. that's 100 feet away. so this all happened after 10:00 where we understand those three men were in a jeep heading south on sheraton, and they hit the woman she was heading west on 80th. she died instantly and her 15-year-old daughter was taken to the hospital. we don't know the extent of her injuries at this point. and the impact was so strong, it destroyed half of that car caving it into itself. and police say the three men ran away from the scene, but they were able to catch up with two of them including one of them that they believe is the driver. they are looking for the third man that was in that jeep. one of the two men did tell police he has some injuries so he was taken to the hospital to be police can't say what charges the drivers might be facing or will be involved in this case, but they said they're working on this investigation and they have six witnesses that are helping them to figure out what happened.

>> thank you, shawn. detectives says this man has exposed himself to strangers around highland's ranch. police are concerned there could be more victims. jeff todd has the latest. >> it would be scary. >> the first happened on the first day of the month. this man exposed himself to a woman in a parking lot near colorado and university. this is a brazen attempt. it's believed the man tried to follow the woman in her car until he realized she was calling someone from her phone. >> i don't know if screaming is appropriate, but it -- >> this is what the suspect looks like. in the first incident, he was scene leaving eastbound on university. that's the same direction of his neck attack. on february 6th, the man showed himself to a woman filling her car with gas near university and quebec. he's

late 20s or early 30s with a shaved head. today, a mesa county deputy killed in the line of duty is going to be laid to rest. gear died last wednesday. he was shot a week ago while trying to stop a teenager with a gun in grand junction. deputy gear had been kept on life support to donate his organs. since then, the community has pulled together in support of all law enforcement officers. >> the support we received from the community has been overwhelming from the flowers to the young kids that have come to our agency and talked to us and tell us how much they appreciate what we do. >> deputy gear is survived by his wife and two children. his funeral is open to the public. right now, flags are flying at half stag in colorado for deputy gear. governor hicken gave the -- flags are lowered

memory of supreme court justice antonin scalia. he was found dead in his room in texas saturday. he died this weekend of natural causes in texas, but there's controversy looming about the nomination of his replacement. he's kim hutchingson with the latest from presidential candidates. >> while the body of late supreme court scalia is transported to washington monday, debate over his replacement dominates the campaign trail. ted cruz criticized his main rival donald trump on abc's this week. >> anyone that writes checks to chuck and harry reid and jimmy carter and hillary clinton does not care about conservative justices on the court. >> trump struck by -- >> he voted in favor of obama care. he got there because ted cruz pushed him like wild. >> on state of the union, bush took a more measured tone. >> i think president obama is

gorge w. bush will campaign for his brother jeb. this is happening in south carolina. jeb says his brother can sell him to candidates to be commander and chief. the primarily is saturday and bush is hoping to gain more momentum after a 4th place finish in new hampshire. parts of a highway near durango is set to up. the herald shared this picture with us. they pushed the rocks to the side to let traffic get by. the southbound lane is blocked and it's expected to open up tomorrow. the rocks are so heavy, workers need to bring -- break them apart, i should say, before they can clean up the slide. let's get a check on what the bus stop is looking like this morning. >> we're taking a look at the day planner today. temperatures will get to 57 degrees by noon. 60 degrees by 2:00. and tonight, around 5:00, we'll be in the mid-50s.

time now for the cbs morning news health watch. some teenagers who don't get as much sleep could be at-risk for diabetes. teenage boys deprived of deep sleep are at higher risk of diabetes. researchers at penn state found those boys who didn't get restful sleep were able to get insulin resistant. the same didn't hold for girls. those with demanding jobs are three times more likely to develop heart disease. those are the findings of european researchers that tracked 12,000 nurses if the nurses who did a lot of lift and carrying tripled their risk of heart problems. and doctors in british columbia say air pollution is the fourth highest risk factor for death around the world. more than 5 and a half million people are set to die prematurely air year from air pollution.

marked with high winds. jason sent these photos. he says strong winds damaged a power pole. it cracked the wood and dropped power lines inches from the ground. crews showed up and made the repairs. lauren, is wind an issue this morning? >> we're going to say gusty again today. something to watch out in the foothills and high country. windy in denver. right now we have gust in broomfield. close to 50 miles-an-hour. as we shift into the high country and foothills, winds along love pass gusting up to 60 miles-per-hour. winds at 25 to 35 miles-an-hour -- expect a windy day. a high wind watch that will go into place at 8:00 a.m. and last through this evening. winds between 20 and 40 miles-an-hour, but some spots, those wind prone areas can see winds up to 75 miles-an-hour.

good morning, everyone. happy monday. welcome back to the cbs 4 morning news. the snow is falling here at i-70 and vail pass. we'll get to your weather and traffic in just a minute, but first, we start with breaking news. a mother driving with her teenager daughter is killed in a crash at 80th and sheraton. police are looking for one person who lift the scene. shawn chitnis is live from the scene. shawn, what can you tell us? >> britt, police are looking for one man in the car that crashed into the woman. there's rocks in the lanes because the rocks

as the car was dragged almost 100 feet. here's what we know from arvada police. this happened just after 10:00 where three men were in a jeep heading south on sheraton and they hit the woman's car, a chevy malibu. she was killed instantly and her daughter was in the car. she understand she was taken to the hospital. we don't have an update on her injuries. the three men did run away from the scene. police did catch up with two of them including one they believe is the driver, but they are still looking for a third man that was in that car. one of the two men that police were able to catch up with and start talking to, he was also taken to the hospital for injuries that he needed to be treated at this point. we have no update on his condition as well as, again, the 15-year-old daughter that was in the car. police are working to continue their investigation here even though they've cleared the scene and figured out what happened. they're talking to six different witnesses and it's

was found in his room saturday morning. the 79-year-old justice was a conservative voice and there's growing controversy over when the appointment of the next nominee will take place. here's dawn champion with that. >>reporter: a white hearse carried the body of justice scalia bound for virginia at the request of his family. the 79-year-old supreme court justice passed away suddenly over the weekend while vacationing at the resort ranch. a county judge ruled that scalia died of natural causes after consulting with his physician and sheriff's investigators. >> one of the things that i did ask the sheriff and the marshal that was there, if there were any signs of fowl play. >> what did they say? >> absolutely not. >> the capital flew in half staff.

colorado where three people killed in -- only part of the business will be open. crews have repair to do since the november 27th attack. planned parenthood has added security measures put into place. as for the suspected shooter, he says he's expecting the death penalty. experts will to stand trial. broken. that's how the mother of a 6-year-old boy describes how she's feeling after her child was allegedly murdered by his father. the boy's body was found in an arapahoe apartment last wednesday. melissa garcia spoke to the family forever changed by this tragedy. >> he didn't just kill him, he slaughtered him. >>reporter: a heart broken grandmother and a grieving mother are trying to cope with a tragedy they can't understand. >> it's hard.

violence her son would suffer from -- >> her ex-husband, brandon johnson is charged with the murder of 6-year-old riley. police found him stabbed to death wednesday inside this apartment. rachel says riley had been living here with his dad after she lost custody of him and his older brother in what she says was false allegations by human services. >> my son would be alive today if this -- if they weren't taken from me. that's why i'm angry because they placed my kids with a murderer. >> we were there everyday in court trying to fight for them. and i feel i let him down. ? now, karen bishop has memories of the grandson she's lost all over again. >> he was just so happy when i would come in the room. he i'll never get that again, ever. i won't get that again. >> melissa garcia, cbs 4 news.

johnson is facing first-degree his girl friend. he has self inflected wounds. a worker who possibly exposed worker to dangerous diseases. the case has expanded surgical technician rocker alan worked at a hospital in phoenix for two months. it's now offering hepatitis and free hiv testing for those patients who had surgery with alan. close to 3,000 patients were encouraged to be tested by swedish hospital here in colorado. since friday, we have had two reports of someone impersonating a police officer and targeting denver drivers. on friday night in north denver, a victim was roughed up. saturday night there was a fake police report near washington park. howard nathan has more.

few blocks west of wash park in kentucky and ogden, a man says two men tried to pull him over. >> that concerns us. >> the denver police say the questionable -- the man called 911 and the possible police posters left the scene driving west on kentucky. that's in contrast to what happened friday night to another man along the denver wheat ridge bolder. >> they pulled him out of the car and rob him and assaulted him. >> the victim was roughed up by the fake cops before they let him go. >> they handcuffed him and they injured his face in the process. >> the fakes bounced the victim's head off the windshield. >> and they took $180 out of his wallet. >> the fakes were a white male with a stocky build. the second suspect described as a black man, 6 feet, 200 pounds dressed in a police looking uniform. and he reportedly had a badge,

>> that was howard nathan reporting. the men why in a blue sedan. a white man was driving, but the would-be victim didn't get a good look at the pan in passenger seat. you can call 911 to verify it's a real police officer. she was hired to take care of a denver home and the house sitter is facing charges for what allegedly happened when the homeowners were away. investigator brian maass gets both sides of the story. >> it was gone. >> they had to go through this stuff and pulled everything down. >>reporter: they went on a vacation to paradise. they say they came back to a devilish mess. >> should not was going through the house luting the place. >> we tracked down the suspect, the house sitter. >> my name is brian maass from cbs 4 news.

into the northwest areas, like steamboat, 4 to 8 inches of snow. higher elevations could see another foot by midnight tonight. none of these are in place for the denver area. we're going to stay dry today. that snow is going to stick around through the day today. here in denver, eastern plains may see a few clouds. that's all we're looking at. snowy conditioning in our mountains. if you're traveling up there to go skiing or if you're heading back down from a 3-day weekend, be careful because it's windy out there. we should clear out tomorrow. we should start off with sunshine tomorrow. tomorrow, there may be a few clouds in the high country. 47 mile an hour winds towards broomfield. 26 mile-per-hour wind for alan's park. 30 mile an hour for glen haven and waldon. because of the strong winds, we have a high wind watch that will start at 8:00 a.m. between 20 and 40 miles-an-hour for those winds,

this monday morning, we're tracking breaking news out of arvada. a mother dead and her 15-year-old daughter hospitalized. this after the driver of a jeep ran a red light and apparently just smashed head on into them. shawn chitnis is live where this happened at the intersection of 80th and sheraton. shawn, what can you tell us? >>reporter: well, britt, that intersection behind me and that is where that car was hit by that jeep traveling almost 100 feet all the way to this parking lot right next to me. you can get a sense of how strong that impact was. we're told by police that this happened around 10:00 p.m. last night. it was 3 people, 3 men inside that jeep traveling south on sheraton when they ran a red light and hit the woman driving a chevy malibu heading west on 80th. she was 40-year-old and died instantly. her 15-year-old daughter taken to the hospital. we don't have an update on her injuries, but
