check with joel. >> the pictures we received from cdot on the shut down of i-70 and glenwood canyon. crews are clearing the roads to get them back open by tomorrow. there's a huge detour in place. let me show you where this starts at. you have i-70 closes from gypsum to glenwood springs. follow with me here because you need to go northbound along colorado, 131 all the way up to steamboat springs. you take from steamboat springs to craig and you have to head southbound along colorado 13 at craig all the way down to rifle where you will reenter i-70. a huge detour this morning, britt. luckily traffic in the denver metro area is nice, but you head into the high country and trying to get west, it's a mess. >> joel, thank you for that. this morning, the trial starts for the woman accused of

woman and cutting out her unborn baby. cbs 4 jaime leary is live from the boulder courthouse on what we can expect today. hey, jaime. >>reporter: good morning, britt. jury selection wrap up yesterday. a trial will begin this tomorrow. and while it's expected to last for ten days, the alleged victim in this case, michelle wilkins is going to testify off that. right after those opening statements this morning. as march of last year when michelle wilkins who was 27 at the time claimed she went to the long mont apartment of 36-year-old lane to buy baby clothing. that's when she says lane attacked her, cut her unborn child from her wound and prosecutors say that lane went to the hospital claiming the baby was her. lane faces charges of attempted murder and unlawful termination of a pregnancy. the baby did not survive. lane is still in custody on a $2 million bond and if convicted, she faces up to

front of the boulder county courthouse, jaime leary, cbs 4 morning news. >> jaime, thanks. a man who fought off guards made off with an expensive piece of jewelry. i guess that's store workers. >>reporter: westminster residents can't believe the brazen crime that took place in front of this cold store in sheraton. >> it's nerve wrecking to think about people doing this. we bring our kids here. >> surveillance video from january 22nd shows this man walk up to the jewelry counter and ask the clerk to show him a vera hoang ring. he gives it back to the clerk and ask to see it again with a magnifying glass. and the man takes off with the ring and the surveillance camera loses him. >> we need to catch him. >> a security guard gave chase and were assaulted. >> as he left the store, they did give chase in the parking lot.

officers in the face. >> the man took off. rachel houston frequently brings her daughter zhouy to kohl's and says that's disturbing. >> it's frustrating that people do this and getaway with them. hopefully they find the guy. >> they say catching this criminal is a top priority and they're worried his next crime may have a different ending. >> the fact that he was brazen enough to use pepper spray against lost prevention -- >> you could earn a reward up to $2,000 from crime stoppers. thieves get a huge haul from a car dealership. they stole 11 cars and kelly says it puts them at a loss of $100,000. >> it takes effort to move 11 vehicles in the middle of the night, which is awesome. >> it's not the reaction

more than $100,000 worth of their merchandise was stolen. but trevor mcmannis is smiling through his life. >> my employees are safe. the key feature is making sure nobody got hurt. >> this red jaguar and blue mercedes and 50 other car keys taken from the hospital. >> we have recovered one vehicle so far. it was at a gas station in arvada a short distance from the dealership. the vehicles dealership. >> we're excited that that excursion came back. >> the potential for finding those responsible seems slim right now as authorities do not have any suspect descriptions. mcmannis doesn't think his employees is behind the theft, but believes this is an organized crime.

can them to drive 11 cars for me. there's no 11 people that i know that would say let's drive would they do that? >> he says it's going to cost those cars. apple says it will fight a first of its kind court ruling. a federal judge ordered apple to help investigators hack into the locked iphone of one of the shooters in the december shooter attack in san bernardino, california. he's dawn champion. >>reporter: two months later, federal investigators have un unanswered questions about the terrorist attacked carried out by farek and his wife in san bernardino. the fbi is hoping for farek's iphone owned by his former employer can provide answers and now they may get this. this ruling orders apple to disable the security feature

if a pass code is entered ten times. >> the federal judge looks at it in the best interest of safety, so they're looking at the circumstances saying, hey, look, apple, you need to help the fbi out. >> once apple disables the feature, the fbi plans to use computers to break farek's pass code without running the risk of data loss. investigators hope to find if the couple had help. they killed 14 people in the attack before they died in a shootout with police. en krepgs and user equipment is high -- apple ceo talked about it during a 60 minutes interview. >> people suggest we should have a back door, but the reality is if you put a back door in, that back door is for everybody. for good guys and bad guys.

temperatures as we get into the 70s today. we may stay below the records, but we're looking at gusty winds along loveland pass and berthoud pass where winds are 20 to 40 miles-an-hour. it's going to be windy in some areas. improved over the last couple of days. today is our calm day before we see the winds ramp. 30 in fort collins and 30 in burlington. 28 in pueblo and 18 in craig. in the denver area and foothills, 40 in morrison and 38 in golden. and we're starting the day off with 29 in brighton. 40 downtown. on our satellite and radar, you'll see clouds on the western slopes and cloud cover in denver. mostly sunny to partly sunny skies today. it should be a lovely day. we'll see some wind out there, but the gusty winds are going to crank back up tomorrow. so throughout the afternoon, fairly calm outside. breezy at times, that's it. overnight tonight,

tomorrow morning, we start to see snow in our northwestern mountains and that will get much more wide spread through the afternoon and evening and at times that snow could get heavy. with this, we see winds crank up as you head into the foothills, northern colorado and our northern mountains. here in denver, it will get gusty. at dia, we may see winds up to 45 miles-an-hour. although we -- 67 in denver. 57 in greeley. 60s and 70s on the east everyone plains. 75 in lahunta. 56 in grand junction. for your hour-by-hour forecast today, 61 degrees at noon. 65 by 2:00 and 57 by 5:00: for your 5-day forecast, the record of the day is 71. we'll probably break that, but it will be gusty. friday is very windy in the foothills, but that should calm down through the afternoon. let's check with joel. good morning. >> good morning, a nice stretch to morning. i-70 airport

the woman who lost the baby, wilkins could take the stand. jaime is live from the boulder courthouse. this could be -- >>reporter: the alleged victim, michelle wilkins expected to take the stand. this isn't the first time we'll be hearing from wilkins. back in september, she described her attack on the air on the dr. phil show. >> was there a time that you lost contentious? >> i did, and i can remember my thought right before losing contentious. i was thinking about aurora and wanting to survive for her. >> it has been nearly a year since 35-year-old lane, according to prosecutors attacked michelle wilkins and cut her unborn child from her body. in march, then 27-year-old wilkins went to

find -- when the suspect was told he'd be taken into custody, he resisted. hozer said he didn't want to go to jail. i'd rather run than get caught. i knew i was going to jail. deputy gear might have put himself at-risk. he was responding to the armed suspect alone. a witness driving by saw the deputy pinning him to the ground to apply his taser. after being tased, holzer said that's when i decided to shoot myself. it didn't work, and at that point i tried to pull the gun out and shoot him. deputy gear was hit four times in the chest and face. the shooter has a long history of drug abuse and told investigators he had used meth in days before the shooting. deputy gear was taken to an area hospital staying on life support for two days for organ donation. his funeral held yesterday.

bundy is still in an oregon jail after a judge denied bail. bundy was arrested when he flew to oregon to support his sons in a wild life refuge. he said he was a flight risk. he's facing charges of conspiracy over his standoff with federal officials in nevada two year ago. he led some 400 armed supporters in a face-off over grazing reports. japanese astronomers are looking at the stars thanks to a new star in orbit. >> japan launched the x-ray satellite -- look at that. to study the structure of the universe and study physics in extreme conditions that cannot be replicated here on earth.

broomfield this morning. a fire is tearing through a home right now in the area of 152nd and la pan street. let's go to shawn chitnis. details. shawn, what's up? >>reporter: well, alan and britt, good morning. we can see it's a busy scene here at this location. and there is smoke everywhere. let's go ahead and pull in a little bit so we can give you a closer look at what's going on. we're a good distance away from the fire which gives dealing with. i was talking with the public information officer here on scene and she was explaining that because of the conditions inside, they have to bring the firefighters back and take more of a defensive approach. so very much of a fire, they're trying to get ahold of. two people were injured in this fire at the intersection or near the intersection of la pan and 152nd avenue here in broomfield and at this point, we have a few details about what else is going on with this fire.

i remember this about you, you like pretty things, don't you? she loves to laugh and smile. to hear what jessica says about her future family, join us at noon. call the adoption agency at the numbers on your screen for more information. breaking news in broomfield. a house fire. shawn chitnis is live on the scene. let's go out to him. shawn. >>reporter: we have a few more detail s s. in addition to the two people -- details in addition. a person was not at the home and is okay. it's two people that are injured in this fire. we don't have an update on their condition, but we do know they have been taken to the hospital for injuries related to this fire. it's a 2-story home that firefighter was fighting and a single family that lives inside. what's significant is an hour after the first call came in around 4:30 this morning, they're still having a challenge

because of the smoke and flames that are on scene, firefighters had to move back. we do see some of them going in and out of the house right now. so they are able to at least go inside to continue fighting this fire. but definitely taking more of a defensive approach because of the intensity of what they're dealing with on the scene here. again, more than an hour after this first call came in about this house fire. if we take a live shot, i'm going to make an adjustment here. probably in the corner here, flames coming out of this house. and again, that's the problem that we're talking about, just getting an update from the spokes woman with north metro fire here. and she said one of the reasons that they moved firefighters back is because there is a concern about the roof collapsing given the flames and smoke that we're still seeing at this point. we're going to remain on the scene and get updates.

broomfield, shaun chit -- shawn chitnis. there's mild temperatures for us. not too bad. as we take a look at our temperature s and what's happening across the state, 30 degrees at dia. 34 in boulder. 30 in fort collins. 30 in colorado springs. 23 in lineman. 28 in leadville and 31 grand junction. as we head into the denver area, the foothills, 41 in stapleton. and 39 in morrison. 38 in golden. taking a look at our wind speed s s. it has been gusty. we're going to see stronger wind in the foothills and high country today. but just not quite as bad as yesterday and monday. right now, 30 mile-per-hour wind along loveland and berthoud pass. and as we look at our satellite and radar, a few clouds on the western slope. cloud cover in denver and mostly sunny to partly sunny skies across the state today. we'll see a few clouds start to develop. it's windy in the foothills, so we get a mountain wave cloud. plus we have the high clouds filtering from the storm system to our west.

live there right now with details on the fire. shawn, what's up? >>reporter: well, alan, we can see firefighters are still doing their best to try and get their handle on this fire. get control of the fire. i'm going to step out of the way so you can see the scene. we're a good distance away from the house and that's because that is where firefighters want us to be. about a full block away. we can still see flames popping up here live. but let's show you that video, that north metro fire shot earlier this morning. and was really when the flames were picking up and in talking to the spokes woman with north metro fire, she made the point that a lot of times when someone like her gets on scene, she doesn't see flames like that, but that gives us a sense of the intensity that more than an hour later, 90 minutes since that call came from a neighbor that they're dealing with flames and a ton of smoke. the smoke has taken over the area. we are at space. here's what we know about the folks inside. there were two people who had to be
