stories in a minute. first, let's talk about the forecast with chris. >> reporter: a little bit of wind out there this morning in the foothills. and on each side of the continental divide. if you're going to be heading over to ski, get ready for a little bit of wind. 18 miles an hour in black hawk. temperatures really not too bad. rest of us in metro denver in the 30s. our weather watcher, robert peck, up there in northwest nevada. 38 degrees this morning. across the state, we are in the teens and the 20s of pie. -- up high. 37 in colorado springs. 41. 46 in the mark. 25 in greeley. we will get a little bit closer to denver and you can pick out your neighborhood from the foothills to the eastside where we are largely in the 30s to low 40s. a pocket in the foothills on

little bit of down soaking when to keep you a little warmer. across the state, the radar is pretty quiet this morning but let's turn on the cloud layer just to the northwest. you can see a big batch of clouds and even some snow between salt lake city and jackson wyoming. that is a weather disturbance going to grace colorado -- grades -- across colorado. who has the best chance to see that and we will see a chance of snow in demers forecast in the week ahead. breaking overnight, a car slams into a house in aurora in tower, mississippi. a man was, the time and was not hurt he said the driver was able to get out of the car and went to the hospital. >> i was down in the basement on the bottom level just hanging out with a friend and the next thing you know, it

i got for your -- 4. so i am 14 behind him. it is a long way to go. also this morning, cdot is opening one lane of i-70 through glenwood canyon today but it is possible that the highway could say closed completely. crews to liberally set off three rock slides yesterday saying they are still unstable above the highway. drivers still have detours of more than four hours right now. once the highway is really -- is reopened, those delays will still top one hour. a state trooper is okay after a driver slammed into his cruiser on i-70 yesterday. the trooper had been investigating another crash a pickup hit him. he was taken to the hospital as a precaution. we're learning more about the surgical tech accused of stealing syringes filled with painkillers and putting

in 2 states at risk. rocky allen was in federal court yesterday, fired from four hospitals for -- for drug that. and fda testified he left those off his resume. allen was discovered replacing a syringe with that in all by a swedish hospital employee. prosecutors argued that he be held until his trial but the court had to consider several factors. >> are there conditions by which somebody could be released that are going to guarantee their appearance in court? and going to protect the community? >> reporter: he was released on $25,000 bond under the condition that he attend drug treatment and live in a halfway house. 7:06. new details on a bill that would change colorado's statute of limitations on sexual assaults from the current 10 years to 20 years. that bill has passed the house and goes to the senate. the democratic representative,

welcome back to the cbs4 morning news. it is 10 minutes after 7:00 on this saturday, february 20. here's a live look at downtown denver. a little bit of fog out there but we are looking at is guys. temperatures just above freezing. about 34 degrees. not too bad. coming in this morning was a nice drive and the last few days, i feel like we have been pretty spoiled. especially for february and denver. we are not out of the woods when it comes to winter weather. we are going to check in with chris to talk about the forecast in just a little bit your but for right now, it is a somber morning for fans of classic literature.

,, 7:17 on this saturday morning. with us. chris is joining us to talk about the forecast. off to a decent start for this morning. temperatures are not too bad across the state. 40 in salina. 31 out of the airport. 20 in meeker. 29 in akron. this is what is happening on the bigger picture this morning. we have a little weather disturbance just to the north and west.

wyoming today but as it scrapes by, it does put a northern state in the northern counties with increasing clouds and a stray snow shower or two. you can see that on the futurecast. the northern mountains in particular. by late morning and early afternoon, you could see a stray shower in our foothills and on the north eastern plains, a few green blips on your screen. as we go into late afternoon and early evening. but all in all, this is a harmless system scraping by the state it will have an increase in cloud cover and a few stray snow showers up high. if you rain or snow showers down low and it will allow colder air to usher into the state. that will be the main impact from the system for now. highs today not too bad. we should definitely get back to the 50s and 60s on the eastern plains. southeastern colorado will see

40s for the most part of pie with that increasing cloud cover. it is a little windy this morning up near the continental divide. 54 in grand junction. 46 in telluride. 64 in rate. steamboat and craig will be because us today because you are closest to that weather system and you have the most cloud cover. mid to upper 30s for your neck of the woods. demers five day forecast like this. we do turn colder tomorrow so you might want to get out and take page on a walk today. 61 degrees with a stray shower this afternoon possible. 48 tomorrow and colder. check out monday and tuesday. the forecast models are starting to change. it is looking more and more like we will get a fast-moving snowstorm through here monday night into early tuesday.

the sun will be in my eyes for this time of the day. money those sunshades. take a look at this. we have a little bit of wind around colorado this morning. mainly, in the northern foothills. so if you're going to ski over loveland pass, you will run into a little bit of wind. 37 from barbie holiday who is our weather watcher in wheat ridge. other temperatures not too bad. mainly 30s along east of i 25. -- i-25. seven in gunnison but you are above zero. to do nine in aspen and ran junction this morning. closer to your neighborhood from the foothills, most of us in those 30s but you do see a pocket of 40s on the west side of town. just a little bit of a down soaking wind this morning keeping you a little bit warmer in places like aurora and dia.

his surveillance video and video out of new york stores show a similar pattern of shoplifting and the detective is competent the same guy has been here and new york. >> i would say 95% or 99%, the gentleman with the puffy jacket and even down to the gray scarf is the exact same person that stole the fire in vail -- the fur coat in vail. >> reporter: on tuesday, the couple was tracked to a hotel in vail. >> they invited the vail police friday and. they said sure, go ahead and take a look around. totally an interested in seeing the warrant. obviously, not worried and we did not locate any first -- any first call's -- any fur coats. >> we believe they have the goods stashed away or they ship

>> reporter: it is believed these crimes have been going on since the end of last year. the store owner in new york seems to think that the shoplifters are from russia or eastern europe. either way, they may be coming to a high in store near you. in denver, howard nathan, cbs4 days the island of fiji is writing out a historically strong tropical cyclone. winston is hammering the island with winds up to 200 miles an hour. it is the strongest storm ever to directly hit the islands. 900,000 people live here. rough seas and coastal flooding are a major worry with a storm that is being strengthened by the ongoing record in the pacific. happening today, the supreme court justice will be laid to rest. the body of the justice was in repose at the supreme court

in the forecast. absolutely. you want to soak it up. you will see some of the initial changes later today as we move into tonight but today looks great. beautiful blue skies. a lot of sunshine to start off and decent temperatures. 24 m lyman. 38. five and gunnison. -- 5 degrees in gunnison. 32 and watkins. 44 and southwest lone tree and 30 149. -- 31. we have a weather disturbance just to the north and west. it is going to clip northern colorado so that you will notice the clouds on the increase through the northwest as we go through the day today. a couple of very light snow showers could pop up in the

northern front range foothills. and out across the plains to the late afternoon and early evening. if you like, rain showers could pop up here this will all be light activity but it could happen and is the forerunner of changes that you will see coming up in the five-day forecast. make sure you get out and enjoy the start to today. 60s on the eastern plains. 40s for the most part of pie. salina at 57. northwest colorado is the coldest and with the most cloud cover. you will only do 30s today. 40s and 50s for the rest of the north and -- western slope. 61 degrees. there is that the -- there is the decrease for tomorrow. it tries to recover for monday but a number system comes through and -- but another system comes through and it starts to look more and more potent. we will have to watch it. tuesday is much colder at 37. 45 for wednesday. we all of our animals. if you needed an excuse to give
