and bull lelsets were ricochetting around. this home off west 37th avenue and grove street, two police officers responded to a burglary call around 1:30 p.m. shots were fired and one suspect was arrested. the other suspect fled on foot to 32st and lowell, where more gunfire was exchanged and the suspect carjacked a victim. witnesses described hearing dozens of shots fired.. the suspect crashed a few blocks away, the p is was killed. -- suspect was killed. during the pursuit, a female officer was shot in the foot and expected to be survive. >> she has an outstanding record. >> no one else was hurt. >>reporter: now, the police are of course still investigating, and have not released the shot. -- officer shot. live off 32nd and lowell in denver, mark taylor, cbs 4 news. on to our weather alert this monday night, the clouds

expect in your neighborhood. ed, thank you. now to a developing story, a boulder jury went home for the night without reaching a verdict, in the dynel lane case. she is accused of stabbing a pregnant woman in longmont. lane knew she was doing, and knew she could have killed wilkins, the defense, says lane did not plan the attack ahead of time, and they were asking jurors to find her guilty of a murder. -- attempted murder. jurors will return to court tomorrow morning to deliberate. the latest on the massive spill of mine waste in southwestern colorado, the environmental disaster at the gold king mine, turned the animas river orange last summer. and now, a vote has just been taken, on whether to ask for an epa super fund cleanup in those mountains around silverton. rick sallinger has continued to follow this story. rick. >>reporter: jim, the vote just

town board and the san juan county commissioners have voted unanimously to ask governor hickenlooper to seek super fund designation from the epa. this comes after national attention on this bill and we went back to examine the impact. it was last august that millions of gallons of acid waste poured from the gold king mine. caused by an epa accident, it shined a new light on the dangers of abandoned mines. bill gardner is the town administrator for silverton. >> all of the gold king was clearly the harbinger of time for change, time to deal with our acid mine waste. >>reporter: a new water filtration plant has been built. it's not the sole answer to the plan. but resistance in and around silverton to categorizing these mines along the nation's worst melting away.

yeah, it's february. >> yeah, that's right, we do get snow the february, for the last 20 days, we haven't seen a flake in town. you can see how the snow is filling in over the last hour and getting heavy in some locations, a lot of the rain changing back over to snow, just about to move into the metro area. so that's where we're looking at. moving through. a big trough of low pressure, that will keep us unsettled overnighttime we have snow moving into the great lakes region and showers and were nos over the southeast. clear skies to the west. into our weekend. way ut there in the pacific, that's the next system that comes in sunday. that's a weaker system, not as much moisture. weather.

snow, the front range here, it gets pretty heavy overnight. several inches could fall by morning. 1:00 a.m., more snow, a nice shot here in denver. by morning rush hour, maybe southern metro area gets it, but we'll about an inch or two or three on the ground and temperatures in the 20s, make for a slick morning rush hour. on into tuesday, 3:00 in the afternoon, i think we see the sunshine even we see snow lingering over the high country and by wednesday morning's rush hour, sunshine border to border around here. it's snowing earlier today, up in steamboat springs, larry pierce under us that picture. winter weather alerts, 4-8, 6-12 inches of know and for the mountains and right on into pikes peak there, we have a winter storm warning for 8-14 inches of snow possible. greater metro area, not much in northeastern colorado, it starts here, an inches, 2, 3, 4, 2-5 inches across the metro area is

accused of opening fire on the streets of kalamazoo, michigan, confessed to some of the attacks. >> six people were killed, two injured. covering the nation on cbs 4 news at 6:00 tonight, jason appeared in court, by a video link today. he randomly shot at people in three separate attacks, at an apartment complex, one woman sholt shot multiple times. the neighbor came outside when she heard the gunshots. >> talking curled up in a ball and she was asking about her kids. >> police say dalton admitted to shooting at a man and his 17-year-old son. then killed 4 more women outside of a cracker barrel restaurant. the investigators looking into whether he continued driving passengers between those shootings, uber says dalton passed a background check and had no prior criminal history. an update tonight on the lumber liquidators, the centers for disease control says it
