streets beyond me, there's some slush forming at this point. there was some snow that got onto the roads and the side streets, but on the bigger streets, you're going to run into some snow definitely here in lakewood. that's going to make for a challenge as you go forward with your commute. let's see you what we saw earlier in lakewood and denver and the tech center. descent snow falling overnight. not sticking in a lot of different places. at least not on the street. the trees and plants pecking that up. we have seen plows working their way across town. they're trying to make the roads better for you as you get ready to go this morning. not too much snow on the ground, but prepare for it to be on your car, so you'll probably need more time to get ready and then of course, take it slower and be more careful on the roads because we're dealing with snow after a while here. live in lakewood, shawn chitnis, cbs 4

snow fall totals in boulder and jefferson county. we have snow in the foothills. is the of denver going strong. high country getting -- if i take away the clouds, you can see it better. the south side of town as you head towards castle rock towards parking and into castle pines, still nice snow fall and confer and evergreen and north to allen park and boulder, nice snow fall. all the way to trinidad, it's snowing in some spots. noon, 37 degrees and sunshine in denver. we're going to clear out. winds picking up this afternoon as well. temperatures around 40 degrees for us today. and overnight tonight, it gets chilly. let's check with joel hillan. how is that morning drive. >> east of the snow line and you've been talking about this, just wet roads. this is around town. this is a live picture from mobile 4 this morning. i want to show you in the high

you have the plow working. i-70 facing that eastbound direction at lacal mountain. as folks come around the corner, we've had reports of numerous accidents along 285. look into the high country, and you have chain and passenger restrictions in place as you make your way out to the johnson eisenhower tunnel. across the denver metro area, a different story. mostly clear and we're running at post the speed limits. traveling from alameda parkway down passed morrison, 285, bowls, king carol before it gets better as you make that turn. you can turn on koa for the latest weather and traffic together. >> thanks, joel. the foothills and mountains getting heavy snow.

weather app and she joins us from i-70 and genesee. you can see that snow coming down around you. >>reporter: it's beautiful out here. there's a little wind, but you can see there's a variety of conditions. we have plenty of powder where the plows haven't touched. but i got off the phone with cdot and they said the conditions on i-70, we have packed powder and ice. there's chain restrictions in place. from denver to vail, there's chain restrictions to i-70. there's ice on the roadways this morning. towards the metro area, it was warm slush but as we got further, things got chilly and freezing on the road. so a lot of ice especially those on and off ramp this morning. the snow is light and fluffy. but because the temperatures were so warm earlier, it's packing down nicely on the roadways and the tires.

if you run into travel this morning, that's likely because all of cdot's plows are out and holding up cars along i-70. morrison is where the snow really came down for us this morning. the biggest problems were exiting where the plows haven't touched yet. getting on and off the highway is a challenge and just obviously take it slow. use common sense because if you're a good driver, that doesn't mean everybody else is driving well as. >> it's a -- this morning, a denver police officer is dealing with a lower leg wound. here's

>> i seen a guy right there. >> hortencio was home when two men tried to break into his window. >> your instinct is i'm going to get those guys. >> the police spotted those guys near 34th and -- when closing in on the two men, a female officer was shot in the leg. denver police chief robert white says she's expected to be okay. >> everyone is going to putting their arms around each other. investigator say after that initial exchange of gunfire, the suspect car jacked a woman and took off. witnesses say he fled down lowell with police close behind and bullets flying. >> the guy was shooting recklessly. i was more afraid of getting shot with a stray bull

daughter's fight for life. she's on a ventilator. she was the victim of a uber driver in michigan. six people are dead. dawn champion has the latest. >>reporter: vic ky cough described feeling her 14-year-old daughter abigail squeeze her hand. >> she's alive and fighting for her life. >> authorities thought abgal -- abigail died. her heart stop stopped, but her mom calls her a fighter. >> she did not deserve this. >> abigail was with her adoptive grandmother when police say 45-year-old jason dolton fired on them. abigail was the lone survivor.

and father were killed while car shopping. monday night, community members fought tears at a candle light vigil. dolton faces six counts of murder. monday he sat expressionless from his jail cell during a brief court appearance. >> do you understand the charges made against you and the maximum sentences i stated? >> yes. >> prosecutors says he admits to carrying out an attack. a motive unknown. >> a second survivor, a woman shot multiple times at an apartment complex is in the hospital recovering. our weather coverage continues this morning. snow and wind here in the state. 28 degrees in denver. >> we have good snow falling in the mountains and that means the

school district says they're putting their schools on a 2-hour delay. >> we have plat canyon -- >> clear creek school districts delays. other places like colorado state university open today and the big districts around the metro area just not having any difficulties right now getting schools open this morning. even in jefferson county today, the schools are open as scheduled even with those schools in (donkey sound) (elephant sound) there's a big difference between making noise, (tapping sound) and making sense. we're live in genesee where we have a foot of snow that's fallen on the ground. we have to clear out spot. our tires had issues. we were getting off the off ramp to genesee. a lot of snow has fallen and still accumulating at this point in time. as we make our way to the highway, you can see chain restrictions. denver to vail is where the chain restrictions in place. a lot of ice on the roadways. you're dealing with packed powder and icy conditions. for more on the temperatures and the weather of a bird's eye view, let's check with lauren whitney inside in the nice warm weather. >> jaime, good luck. here's a look at floyd hill. snow is coming down in parts of the high country. be careful on your drive.

and ice packed in some spots and that snow is going to continue into the foothills. its clearing if denver, but that doesn't mean everyone else is clearing. we'll get to the satellite and radar. snow totals from our weather watchers golden ken reporting 8 nm. jim reported 5 and a half inches. there's cynthia reporting 4 inches. on our satellite and radar, you can see douglas getting snow fall. down south, that snow is continuing to snow heavily. as we zoom here more, the downtown area to the north, a wet commute. south, it's more snow packed. castle pines and highlands ranch, there's good snow fall. this goes into confer, evergreen all the way into boulder and more up to the north from red feather lakes

park and longmont boulder, the good stuff is towards -- trinidad to -- we have dryer air that's filtering in. we're going to see this ease up. another one to four inches in our foothills. snow into the afternoon highs and into the southwest. here in denver, we may have sunshine and winds picking up this afternoon with snow continuing into the southwest into the evening. overnight tonight, skies will clear and tomorrow morning, waking up to clear skies and cold temperatures. we get chilly here again tonight and tomorrow, we warm back up close to 50s. temperatures today are going to remain in the upper 30s low 40s. southwest into the southeast and up into the central mountains, we have winter weather advisories in place for the next couple of in greeley. 20s and 30s in the is the west.

nice and wide open. the one exception as you come around the corner at king corner and then around out to kipling, it's icy and icy as you get up to the foothills and it's seeing more accumulation. let me take you to the west. we have talked about this. we have i-70 which has reopened. it's going to close during the day. we watch this because 4:00 p.m. it's not necessarily going to reopen as we saw yesterday. maybe delayed a couple of minutes and when it's delayed, it's a two hour drive. >> joel, thank you for that. today is the nevada caucus and donald trump is looking for yet another victory. meanwhile, the fight for second place in the gop race heats up. here's dawn champion with the latest. >>reporter: donald trump is eyeing a big win in nevada tonight. >> you got to vote tomorrow. you got to vote, vote, vote.

here's suzanne marques with today's eye on entertainment. >>reporter: dawn says charges accusing him of domestic violence is a tragedy for his family. the american pie singer plead not guilty to six counts stemming from his arrest last month. his wife filed a request for protection after that incident. bill cosby's wife testified in a defamation lawsuit against her husband. camille cosby answered questions under oath in massachusetts. she has publicly stood by her husband after dozens of woman accused him of sexual assault. the hip hop musical hamilton picked up another trophy. it was inspired by american history. the award comes with a $100,000 prize. the oscars are -- gabara was nominated in crushes in 2010.
