on the streets each and every day. >>reporter: a lot of broken hearts here today. a lot of questions, too, about what happened. there will be another press conference tomorrow. this flag is at half-staff now to honor an american hero killed in the line of duty. we're live in bailey tonight, tom mustin, cbs4 news. tom, thank you. cbs4's mark taylor is live outside of martin wirth's home, also in bailey where the shooting happens. mark, investigators have been there, combing the scene all day. >>reporter: this has been a very active scene, all day long. jim, we want to boeing r point out right now, several crews on scene, from multiple different police officer agency, they've been here all day keeping this area shut down. this whole incident happened just before 10:00 this morning, we did get a chance to talk to several of wirth's neighbors, they say that martin wishth kept to himself, but they were aware of his eviction situation. one neighbor says he had several altercations with the police,

where he felt the police were targeting him. ful she adds that she knew wirth had the weapons in his home but shocked he would use them against the police. >> things happen. you know, because the officers shouldn't have lost his life, there shouldn't be two officers in there wounded and i don't think martin should be dead. >>reporter: now, right now, the police are still investigating here at the scene. the bomb squad was here earlier with several team members sort of combing through what looked like his entire property, the police do say that there is no danger for residents who live in this area. live in bailey, mark taylor, cbs4 news. . thanks, mark. now, along with his work in the occupy moment, wirth was involved in local politics. 2014. brian maass has been looking into his background and joins us live fl the newsroom. >> martin wishth was 58 years

park county -- dispute over the park county home. >> there's no other evidentiary requirement. >>reporter: in this video posted to youtube, wishth admitted not making payments to the mortgage company, saying they were a bunch of crooks. >> i did not pay mortgage to the bunch of crooks. >>reporter: park county records show he lost his property to his mortgage company in 2014. after failing to pay, more than $116,000, he owed on the iris drive home. in 2013, wirth filed this federal complaint against governor john hickenlooper, asking that the state foreclosure laws be repealed and the government officials be criminally charged for depriving him of his civil rights. a federal magistrate later threw the wirth case out of court. in 2014, wirth ran for state senate, facebook posting he called himself a high value target. and railed on police. calling them a brutal impediment to human progress.
