scene tape that has closed off that area. are in the area in between the highway where both traffic goes in opposite directions. there's a lot of different patrol cars. various agencies in the area are trying to move traffic around. we are right be a convenient store. we know traffic is coming on and off the highway and having to go around so we can deal with this ongoing closure. it looks to be a large section of the highway that they have closed off. again, at this point getting a few details about an officer involved shooting where one suspect has been killed and another in custody. shooting. what led up to it we do not know. there's a line of businesses that have been closed off so might have something to do with businesses in that area. few minutes here. i understand they are gathering

more information. we will bring the update to you as soon as we get it. now to the traffic situation. a couple streets blocked off so a tricky maneuver to get around this. >> this is tough for morning commuters. if you're trying to access denver from greeley or commerce city, a lot of people are using highway 85. it's an option for you. the local option is take 37th and find your way south to highway 52 and make your way back to 85 but that adds time. these roads are not used to handling the amount of volume coming through. so if you live to the south of greeley add extra time to your commute. thanks for the update, joel. let's look at our wind speeds. pass. expect high elevations today and

the second injured deputy colbie martin is still here at the hospital fighting for his life. it was a chaotic scene yesterday. the shooter claimed life of corporal carrigan. martin was shot multiple times and they were asking for blood donations for the injured deputies. the small town is shaken by this incident. they held a vigil last night for everyone there. school. today his life was taken and we are blown away. it's been very hard on us. >> reporter: the impact felt far and wide, even the governor

2013 in an effort to have state forclosure laws repealed. a magistrate through the case out. wirth ran for state senate and began a verbal battle against police calling them "a danger to us all and because i write such things cops want me dead.". >> it didn't have to happen. >> reporter: he was shocked to hear his friend was in a deadly shoot out with authorities because he say he was not a violent person. >> i don't believe what the cops are saying about what happened. >> reporter: he believes when wirth opened fire he was acting in self defense. >> the way i see it is martin reached the end of the line and he -- he did what he did. >> that was kelly worth man reporting. this was not the first time he was involved in deadly violent.

at least eight people are dead due to storms in the south. yesterday there were strong tornados and drenching rain. don champion has the latest. >> reporter: as the dangerous storm system moves up the east coast, state police in waferly virginia comed through rubble night. >> look at that. see what happened. vincent survived and some of his neighbors did not. dozens of buildings were reduced to rubble. several reported tornados

not a lot of local options. you can head south on highway 52. the problem is you're stuck in traffic with those big semis who start and stop very slowly and my advice is not to head to the area. just let police try to detour you around. take highway 34 at i-25 this morning. a bus driver accused of driving while drugged. >> elizabeth burr rus is accused of crashing a school bus full of children while she's under the influence of drugs. >> reporter: a school bush crashes in boulder county last december. >> eight students and one driver on that bus. >> five hospitalized and two seriously injured. >> coming around the corner and it tips one way and the other.

ingested six prescription drugs. she's facing child abuse charges for that incident. >> we have seen marijuana and that's the biggest. thc is the biggest culprit. >> reporter: denver public schools is overseeing more than 500 random drug tests the last three years. five have come back positive, including one for cocaine. >> not only do you not meet dp standards but you're participating in substance abuse and can't work here. >> reporter: we also found in the same district where he works, in the last three years two other drivers were fired for positive drug tests. jefferson county has had two positive tests in the last three years. we learned douglas county had three positive tests last year among bus drivers and a total of
