i would like to talk a little bit about nate carrigan. office. nate works tirelessly. he has been working as an fto. community. law enforcement professional. the loss will be felt for a time. nate began with my office in 2003. nate also graduated from black canyon high school. he was in the class of 1999. nate was a baseball coach, football coach at black canyon high school.

i know they have sent out a separate press release. we will have is folks at the school there. folks helping at the school district today. i want to close that comment. let me just say that touring this time, you know, nate's mother also works at the school. nate was was a caring individual that went above and beyond. the fact that this incident comprehension at this time. if i could at this time let me read a quick statement from

i promised i'd do that. nathan carrigan was not only a long time veteran of the park county sheriff's office, but he was also a beloved son, a brother, coach, and a role model. we would like to extend a thank you to all of the first responders and departments involved in this tragic event with our tight-knit community. we ask for a chance to grieve our loss in private. i hope that this event does not discourage or deter anyone in the law enforcement community, police, corrections, the sheriff's office, but hopes to strengthen the resolve to defend their community and the thin blue line. in lieu of flowers, our family is requesting funds be donated to a scholarship fund at the

set up in nate's name. let me talk a little bit about the incident. deputies went to the residence on a high-risk eviction. notice of the eviction was posted on february 16 by park county deputies. because of previous law enforcement contact with martin, there was a high level of concern for the deputies affecting the eviction. i want to stress that begin. this was an eviction. this was something we do on a routine basis just like our fellow sheriff's offices through the state of colorado. in my community, we have individuals upset about the system. so is everyone through the state.

non confrontational matter. we responded to the residence in 2014 for the same type of eviction and had a peaceful resolve. we did not force a violent confrontation yesterday. mr. werth did. we simply responded to the situation that was presented to us. at had this time we are not anticipating any additional press conferences. we would like to ask that you allow my agency and our community to grieve. the investigation is ongoing. this is a routine process, but the criminal investigation will take some time. there will not be a consistent update moving forward. at the conclusion of the investigation we will forward this case to the 11th judicial

i don't. park county's a different type of community. oftentimes when it takes federal agencies, a s.w.a.t. team to go serve a civil service, i could have a deputy walk up and do the same service. the sheriff has to know his community and how they'll react. like i said, we did this before and there was no problem. >> our county sheriff there revealing several things. first of all, saying we didn't read that confrontation that led to that yesterday. he did give us good news, colby martin, the other deputy who was critically hurt, is in serious condition and up and around. he is at st. anthony's hospital

that's good news. another sheriff's deputy was grazed in the ear. we are constantly updating developments related to the shootings, including any details on services for corporal nate carrigan. will update at cbsdenver.com.com. other news developing right now. a suspect dead. another in custody after a confrontation with police in evans early this morning. that investigation still has highway 85 closed from 37th street to 42nd street. cbs4's lauren dispirito is at the scene right now. lauren, officers i understand vehicle in. >> that was the initial call that came out. earlier they told us it was for trespassing. they updated their information since then. morning. here near an old go kart racing track. now we can see that investigators are still processing evidence on the scene, and one of the things we have seen on the ground near

that's near some of those numbered tags that you can see. we know there is a lot of evidence to process here. when those two officers responded to that suspicious vehicle call, when they arrived running away. so they chased, and they were able to get one of those men into custody pretty quickly. but the other man ran and hid, according to investigators. he hid for two hours until popping up over a fence. when he saw an officer, they say he raised a gun, shot at that officer, missed, and then ran. and it's after that happened that more officers, there were several agencies responding, that officers encountered him. they say they saw him raise the handgun again and that's when they fired mulitple shots. >> we hope that anyone -- that no one is injured. that is primary. on the other hand, there is times that we don't have a

lauren is here. we go brag about colorado weather once again. look at the snow on the mountains there. >> blue skies. a few clouds outside this afternoon. beautiful start to the lunch hour. looking at a fabulous day as well. for the rest of the day, and really the next few days, i know some of you want snow to return. let's take a look at the temperature change in the last 24 hours. a little bit of inversion. western side of the state you are a bit warmer, 5 to 10 degrees different from yesterday. so that's puts us at 39 here in denver. the 39 for boulder and fort collins. eastern plains 42 wray, 40 in burlington, had in the mountains 27 in craig. 47 over in grand junction. as we look at the wind speeds

akron and fort collins 20 miles per hour. in the denver area fairly calm. winds 10 to 15 miles per hour. in the foothills a few gusty spots. overall, winds are significantly different from yesterday. 30-mile-per-hour gusts in berthoud pass. a look at our satellite, you won't notice of activity out there. we are looking at fairly clear skies. a wider look at what's across the country. the western side is so dry and actually fairly warm. that nasty storm system that started in the gulf brought tornados shifting to the northeast and more on the snow by side now. things should improve quite a bit. it looks like a dry day across the country tomorrow. futurecast today mostly sunny skies, a beautiful afternoon, and then overnight tonight skies are clear. so tomorrow morning a bit on the chilly side and looking at a love by day tomorrow with temperatures going up to the upper 50s. so it's going to be even warmer tomorrow and then even warmer after that into saturday. temperatures today you are looking at 47 in denver, 45 greeley, 47 for boulder and fort

he is a four-year-old grey tabby. bowser is social and outgoing. very affectionate lap cat. curious, too. if you would like to make him a part of your family visit him in person, dumb friends league in castle rock. an investigation is underway into an outbreak of mumps in denver. investigators believe the source is a person who recently moved to colorado from iowa. that state has had a mumps outbreak since last july. the patient is believed to have spread it to three friends and healthcare workers who treated them also developed symptoms. >> all had jaw swelling in this region, which is common for mumps. they also had low-grade temperatures and just felt ill. >> here is the thing. all of the patients had received mumps vaccinations. but doctors say the vaccine is about 88% effective and immunity
