be a beautiful morning. skies clear and gorgeous. a nice day today. but tomorrow, winds are picking up. winds are fairly calm. eastern plains, gusty. and it should be nice if you're heading to the alumni game tonight for coors field. it should be fun and great weather. 30 degrees in denver. 32 in boulder. 22 in lineman. 12 in leadville. 7 in craig. zero in gunnison and 28 in grand junction. on our satellite and radar, clouds to start the day. looking at our hour-by-hour forecast, 56 by noon. and 61 by 2:00. 9:00, still in the upper 30s. if you're going to restaurant week or heading out to the hockey game, it should be a nice evening. we'll talk about it tomorrow in a moment. joel, how is it the drive? >> it's a good start. no trouble spots out there. we're seeing more volume out there. it's lighter because it's a friday. taking a look from copter 4 looking at the roadways. this is i-270 and

quite a few taillights. it seem like i-270, it doesn't matter what time it is, it's speeds from the 50s and 60s. 9 minutes is all it's going to take to get from 120 to i-70. >> that looks nice. joel. a cherry creek bus driver is accused of driving drunk with 30 students onboard. that driver faces dui charges. shawn chitnis live. parents are concerned and rightfully so. >>reporter: certainly. so here's what we know in terms of how this started. a woman worked for the school district who says she thought this bus driver smelled like alcohol and she conducted the district transportation department to let them know. michael hobbs is the bus driver dropping off students from this bus route. they have one stop.

safely. an employee says hobbs didn't seem drunk based on how he was walking and talking, but after he finished his route, medic checked him, where he was, and they said he was fine. the arapahoe sheriff's department gave him a road side test and he didn't pass. he was arrested because he may be under the influence. the results of his blood test aren't in yet. hobbs did say he had the flu so he was taking medicine to treat that. he was with the district or at least he started with the the school district told us he will not return to work. live in greenwood village, shawn chitnis, cbs 4 news. a harvey county sheriff in kansas is praising officers who stopped a shooter. police say 38-year-old cedric ford opened

in hesston north of wichita. it was at a -- >> he was unloading on everybody. everybody started fleeing to this back door. >> i thought i was hearing explosions from something blowing up and a mile of people started running out saying run, run, and then a pop, pop, pop. >> ford died in a gunfire with scene. police don't have a motive. they say the attack was not terrorism. word came out that the assailant was served -- it's designed to protect people from harm by household members. a deputy shot and badly injured in park county wednesday is doing better this morning. at last update, deputy martin is in serious condition, but apparently he's up and around at saint anthony's hospital in lakewood.

barely passed a committee. schools keep track of vaccination records. some in favor of the bill say it would keep the records centralized to help during disease outbreaks. others feel the state should not have access to this data. tonight, the old guys will lace up their skates for the red wing avalanche game at coors fan. they're going to have fun. the old red wing and av's in there. some of that form, joe sack has been polishing his wicked roster. they'll sit back and watch the av's play the red wings at 6:00. last night the av's and the media got to test their skills. it looks like a lot of people had fun. it's open for a one-hour skate session this monday night. copter 4 over

welcome back on this friday morning. and it's a gorgeous friday morning. take a look at this live look from look out mountain. not a cloud in the sky. beautiful in denver. we're looking at a beautiful day across the state. the winds may pick up on the east ern plains this afternoon, and in the foothills overnight tonight. your winds going to start cranking. winds at 15 to 20 miles-an-hour in our foothills area. checking in the fire weather watch in south, this is for saturday. we'll have low humidity and gusty winds so be extra careful out there. i know

fire danger high. that's a tough spot as well. denver not under this, but be cautious outside. temperatures right now, 30 degrees in denver. 21 in greeley. 31 in burlington. 32 in boulder. 21 in avon. 7 in craig. 28 in grand junction. we're looking at mostly sunny skies to start the day. not a cloud out there and we're going to stay that way today. mostly sunny skies all through the morning hours and then through the afternoon, you've got it. mostly sunny with wind on the eastern plains. overnight tonight in the foothills, winds pick back up and it can be get gusty. probably won't see a high wind warning right now. it's below criteria, but gusty. tomorrow, a beautiful day. could get clipped by rain and snow from a system from the north. if you're headed to the red wing games or avalanche game, it could get windy. we'll be in the 60s.

wide open. we had an earlier accident on sheraton near warren. we have the cars out there along the sides of the roads. that's the only trouble spots. lauren is tracking the winds in the high country. be careful if you're planning in the hills. i-70, the lane closures. it doesn't say full closers. they decided they're going to run traffic 24 hours a day, but they're using pilot cars and road work that needs to be done in the stretch rock fall work. you can see full closures, but nothing like what days. thank you joel. the g-20 admits to spying. happy friday, good morning, britt. we'll see if the markets could close out this week in positive territory. better than expected

investigators say a man shot and killed by police -- that deadly confrontation happened yesterday morning on highway 85 near 37th. officers were checking out a suspicious vehicle when two men ran off. police caught one man and the other ran off and officers shot and killed a man when they say he pulled out a gun. they say he shot at officers earlier that evening, but he missed. a man leaving a message at a government's office. it was placed monday afternoon. the arapahoe sheriff's office says surveillance cameras captured this man making this call from a public phone at the smoky hill library from smoky -- one lane of traffic moving on i-90.

,, ,, forecast. we have delay in la gore y'all. windy in that area. and we have snow in the northeast and that's going to down east, temperatures warming up and skies clear and the midwest should be a beautiful weekend with temperatures in the 40s. 42 in minneapolis and 32 in chicago. warm and mild into the southwest. 88 in phoenix. we have a system making land fall in the pacific northwest. this could bring big weather to the midwest starting by the middle of next week. we may be impacted by this on monday. we'll talk about that in a moment. take a look at this.

fabulous day today. let take a look at our temperatures -- let's take a look at our temperatures and look at the weather map and take a quick peek at what's going on. winds not strong. however, it's going to get windy out here. eastern plains, you're going to get gusty. the foothills are going to crank up and here in denver on saturday night, we're looking at pretty strong winds as well. but first today, fairly calm here and we're looking at temperatures in the low 60s. we'll talk about the weekend in a few moments, but first let's check with joel hillan. >> we're watching the drive a-- at c 470. southbound comeing into town, we're seeing the slowing and speeds dipping into the 40s. thanks joel. today, parents have hard questions for the cherry creek school district.

bus driver failed a sobriety test after driving 30 middle school students. shawn chitnis is at the bus barn with details. shawn. >>reporter: we know this bus driver won't be coming back to work according to the school district and he's make not an afternoon. we understand that michael hobbs finished his route yesterday afternoon. he did drop off all 30 students safely. but the arapahoe sheriff's department said he didn't pass a road test. coming up at 6:45, what hobbs says he did that may have led to this possible dui charge. shawn chitnis, cbs 4 morning news. thank you, shawn. a developer story as we learn about the survivors of a deadly work shooting. a gunman killed 3 people. and 14 hurt. the shooter was served an abuse order which

there's violence in a relationship. dawn champion picks up the story from here. >>reporter: investigators describe a chaotic scene near wichita kansas when the gunman opened fire. >> he was shooting at any target. >> an employee shot -- in this hospital bed, jesus remembers the moment he got hit. >> people were running saying, somebody was shooting and next thing you know, i fell and got hit in the leg and i turned and started running. >> a law enforcement source tells cbs news, the shooter was 38-year-old cedric ford killed in a gunfire. josh tucker knew him. >> everything was -- he didn't seem like the kind of guy. >> before getting to the plant, investigators said the gunman

anxious family members could be seen looking for their loved ones. >> i feel like i'm in a nightmare. >> she said someone got shot next to her husband. >> i won't be happy until i see him in person. >> it happened on live television. >> oh, my god. >> you can come in here. >> the atf and fbi are helping with the investigation. dawn champion, cbs news. right now, deputies in weld county say two thieves are zeroing in on easy targets and stealing from people two need the money the most. one theft happened between windsor and loveland. she said someone took money from the donation jar meant to feed the hungry. >> there was dollar bills in there as well. i would say maybe 50 to $75. i guess he was hitting other places too. >> the weld county sheriff's office thinks there's three

this includes a convenient -- the thefts happened in the early morning hours and investigators thinks the crooks stolen a few hundred dollars. police are looking for an early 2000 ford taurus or mercury. they say the car the crooks used looks like this one on your screen. super tuesday looms a few days away. colorado are holding caucuses or primary and it's a turning point in election because -- republicans in our state will gather, but they won't take a poll on their preference for the presidential nominee. state's party executive committee decided to cancel the presidential preference poll this year. colorado republican party steve house says that change comes after the national committee made preference polls -- they would have to vote -- in the past, delegates were able to change this votes.

in a way that honors the process being done right without any shenanigans and issues. i still believe if you're going to bind your delegates to a candidate that may be the next president of the united states, you should do it with a voting process that we all know and believe in. >> the state democratic party will not award any delegates in tuesday night, but they'll do a straw poll and they'll report the results of that poll. the caucuses are the first of a four-step process of choosing a nominee. 2 to 3% of either party attends those caucuses. there's two proposed ballots to -- that would mean unaffiliated voters could participate in the republican or democrat process. the donnie group of words -- you won't believe what they were saying. the veteran administration

>>reporter: a woman worked for the -- she thought this bus driver did snell like alcohol. that's why she took the necessary steps that followed after he finished up his route. he was taking the 30 students to west middle school. it had one stop, so all 30 students did leave west middle school and get to their stop safely. they say that hubs didn't same drunk. after he finished his route, medics were able to check him where he was and they said he was fine. the arapahoe sheriff's county gave him a road side test, but he did not pass that. he was arrested because he may be under the influence while driving, but this potential dui may not be related to alcohol. the results of his blood test are not in yet. hobbs says he has the flu, so he was taking medication to treat that. he was hired last october. and didn't have any incidents up until yesterday. the district said he will not be coming back.

mentioned, he's going to be in court later this afternoon. shawn chitnis. a deputy hurt in this week's shooting near bailey is in serious condition. deputy martin was considered critically wounded. he's up and around at saint anthony hospital in lakewood. martin wood is one of several deputies shot -- martin worth opened fire killing corporate nate carrigan. he never believed the eviction would take a violent turn. he says there's a scholarship fund set up at bank of the west in memory of nate carrigan. this morning, we learned the shooter was served a protection from abuse order. it's designed

partners or household members. police say 38-year-old ford opened fire at three separate locations, that includes a loan product factory where he worked. jerald said it started as a normal day at work when ford left work and returned to work. >> i witnessed him shoot the shots. it's that vivid. he yelled hey, and boom, boom, boom. and proceeded to go into the building. >> ford died in a gun fight with the first officer who got to the scene. the local sheriff says the law officer likely saved lives. ford had run-ins with the law before. he pleaded guilty of disorderly conduct and -- it was hammer time at last night's republican debate. candidates swung insults and

rhetoric was fiery. rubio had been avoiding strong attacks against the republican front runner for months. but in houston, that all changed. >> you inherited $2 million. trump -- >> trump, meanwhile offered an explanation as to why he hasn't released his tax return. >> romney suggested the documents could have a bomb shell. >> i'm not audited for two or three years so i can't do it until the audit is finished. >> now, at one point during the debate, the mot raters had trouble controlling the candidates. >> we have a response, but i promised kasich he could respond. >> can somebody attack me, please. >> wolf. on the democratic side, clinton and sanders are making a last minute pitch to minority voters ahead of tomorrow's primary in south carolina. new legislation could make sexting between teens in mexico legal. right now they can be prosecuted -- this new bill will allow minors 14 to 17 share photos between each other as long as its consensual. it's waiting for the governor's signature. a bill requiring parents to notify the state if they opt out of vaccines. schools keep track of vaccination records. some in favor of that bill say it would keep the records centralized to help during disease outbreaks. others feel the state shouldn't have access to the data. denver's performing arts conflict could look different. it would get rid of a concert
