developing now, an army staff sergeant facing murder charging. police say he killed his wife and shot three police officers in a washington d.c. suburb last night. officer ashley gwendon was killed, her first day on patrol. >> and today that family came together for a memorial. >> we will continue one step at a time in honor of ashley. it would discredit hire memory and her selfless service if we did anything but. >> she and two other officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call. ronald hamilton allegedly shot his wife and opened fire on police. hamilton is an active dude army staff sergeant assigned to the person too gotten -- pentagon. four officers in colorado

corporal nate kerrigan died. the violence against law enforcement affects not only the officers, but the community, as well. >> reporter: tom, you know, the relations between some members of the community and the police these days is not very good. in fact, the denver police put up this barricade to keep and people away from their memorial, and today down in douglas county, some members of the pro police community had their say. when a park county corporal was shot and killed last week, he became the latest in a n what many see as a disturbing trend, disrespect it will the price. >> it's scaryive day he goes out there. >> reporter: for 12 years, debbie has been live with a growing fear for her husband, who is a police officer, for his safety. >> i think people just don't respect them like they used to. >> reporter: debbie joined some 200 others that at the

make a statement, support the police. >> it seems like every single day, there's more of a separation between our public and our police. >> reporter: ron organized this pro police rally. his third in colorado since last summer. >> a lot of people in the community actually think that police are out to get them. i know, i grew up in the community, and i always thought the police were out to get me, until i realized better. >> reporter: some believe that relationships need to be formed west the police. >> if we gets the young people in the community thanking police, and getting to know their local police, there will be less crime and less confrontations, because the two sides will know each other. >> reporter: or as mclaughlin said, you never know when you might need a cop. >> these people who are protesting, in their children are harmed, who are they going to call? >> reporter: the pro police community said why not thank a police officer. in denver, howard nathan, cbs 4 news.

tonight blue flags were honoring law enforcement along a stretch of highway 285. this comes after are that shootout last week that killed deputy kerrigan and injured two others. today supporters continued that tribute all the way to kanosha pass. the last weekend of february brought us unseasonably warm weather. and today's sunset in denver after a beautifully sunny day. dave is in colorado's weather center. dave, i understand that we're going to see a shot of snow? n the mountains tomorrow, but denver will stay dry? >> for the most part dry, i think. we might get a sprinkle or a few flakes of snow, but that's going to be about it, and to the it's very quiet weather- wise out there, the fire danger is right on the verge of bubbling up if we get a warm, windy day, so we unfortunately have to hope for more moisture to come in.

the pacific northwest. a little bit of rain and high mountain snow with it up there, but i think most of that is going to go up and over colorado, but the trend is going to shoot this right over wyoming, and the cold front will be going through colorado during the afternoon tomorrow. however, i think the main thing we're going to see here in denver, unfortunately, will be more wind with this. this is the futurecast wind forecast, taking you all the way through tomorrow morning at 9:00. estes park has the potential of winds up around 50 miles per hour gusts. not quite as crazy here in denver, until the afternoon, when that front comes through, and some of our wind gusts here in the city may get up the 30 to 35 miles per hour, and that might bring a little sprinkle of rain with it, as well. we'll outline all the moisture chances for you coming up, and i'll show you what these cold fronts will do for the temperature, as well, as we transition from february into march, starting tomorrow.

>> now to campaign 2016, after a landslide loss in south carolina yesterday, bernie sanders is eyeing key states he thinks he can win. today he spoke to a huge crowd on the csu campus. jeff todd was there. jeff, the crowd started gathering about 12 hours before the senator started speaking. >> reporter: tom, an enthusiastic crowd obviously here on the campus, filled with young adults and students, but senator sanders is counting on those kids and their social network in order to get a win near colorado on tuesday to regain some momentum, and, more importantly, some delegates. sanders repeatedly covered his usual topics, like student loan debt free college tuition, healthcare, income inequality, and social issues affecting minorities. >> every person in this room has got to stand up and fight back!

edge of i-25 at mile marker 254 near johnson's corner. colorado state patrol responded just after 3:00 a.m. sunday when the driver of a 2006ed for 0 expedition traveling forth bound hit a woman walking along the fast lane of the interstate. people staying at the rv park just across the frontage road saw the flashing lights as officers shut down i-25. >> i couldn't believe somebody was out there. >> reporter: it's a 75 mile per hour stretch. >> it surprises me there was something walking down there. makes you wonder what was going on. >> reporter: tracks in a dirt shoulder show where the driver came to a stop. >> the driver has to be beside himself. he's seriously going to need days to process that, i'm sure. >> he looked like he was pretty distraught about it. >> reporter: the woman died at the scene. authorities say neither alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed were factors on the part of the driver. from rally to rum until a

once this cold front starts to move our way, we're going to see some snow develop. here is the forecast into tuesday, the first day of march. here we go. cold front starts to knock on the door tomorrow morning. mountains. that's at 10:00 in the morning, and for denver, i'm thinking 4:00 or 5:00, the front starts to move through our city. that listen crease the wind for us, and might bring a few isolated showers from denver into northeastern colorado. that's a slight chance. it's coming from the south, so that's more of a down slope for us. it's hard to get moisture out of that kind of flow. but the mountains mild end up with 2 to 5 inches of snow. and then by tuesday afternoon, out of here, and i think we're going to start march were like a happy lamb with sunny skies and fairly mild temperatures, as well. we made it to 60 for the high at the airport today. 61 downtown, and our normal
