skies. a windy today. the good news is the winds down from yesterday. the bad news is tomorrow, they crank right back up. so it's windy in some spots. 37 mile an hour winds in winter park. estes park, close to 30. black hawk, 20 miles-an-hour. 34 in fort collins. 27 in burlington. 31 in grand junction. looking at our satellite and radar. we have cloud cover to start the day. we have plenty of clear sky out there. sunny skies today. breezy, not too bad compared to yesterday. and we have a chance for mountain snow today. i'll talk about the winds for tomorrow and fire danger in a moment. joel, how is the drive though? >> we're starting to see it load up in the usual spots. one of those usual spaces is commerce city. you can see the long line of taillights and the long line of headlights as folks make their way either direction

southbound coming into down, speeds down into the 40s. if you're leaving in the next 10 minutes or so, that's going to take you 15 minutes because we'll see added volume. we have a trouble spot on sheraton at louisiana. treat that as a four-way stop. if you're good to get in your car, turn on koa and 94.1 fm. you get your traffic and weather the tens. one man hurt in an overnight hit-and-run around 11:30 last night. police say 53-year-old gorge taylor was found laying near spring park drive. his bicycle and backpack found a short ways away. he was taken to hospital with serious injuries. police do not have a vehicle description this morning. they're asking for the public's help. breaking overnight, a man shot during a craigslist deal in

this shooting happened at 26th and pierce. police tells us two men were responding to an ad reportedly involving some sort of illegal activity. police aren't specific about what that was. a shooting left the seller hurt. a green fort escort was stolen with a license plate qkl-268. police believe a hash oil explosion caused a fire on west 73rd. four people managed to make it out of the home. medics treated four people for smoke inhalation. there's going -- 865 delegates for the democrats. 600 delegates in line for the republicans today. >> democrats in colorado will take a straw poll which is a random testing of the population. republicans will

jaime leary is live at the state capitol to break down how the california caucuses work. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, britt. republicans in our state didn't take part in the contest tonight. they're going to gather, but they will not be taking poll. republicans will not be selecting or committing anyone -- any nominee until the national convention. republicans are not going to award delegates tonight. democratic candidates are going to have a better idea of where they stand in colorado. democrats will ask their voters for a favorite through a straw poll. this is going to highlight which candidate is most popular among party activist and will not always proven true until the end. it will give voters a better general idea. the caucuses are the first in a four-step process in selecting a nominee. 2 or 3% from either party participate. so if you are affiliated with the party and

can find your precinct location on our website at cbsdenver.com. however, it you're like a majority or a good chunk of the voters in colorado, 35% according to the denver chamber of commerce website who are unaffiliated, there are two ballot measures to establish an open primarily, which means if you're an unaffiliated, you'll get to vote. that's a ballot measure right now. live in denver, jaime leary, cbs 4 morning news. trump is predicting a super tuesday victory. the latest poll shows the front runner leading nationally and in several key states. >> we're going to win with our military. we're going to win, win, win. >> cruz is banking on a win in his home state of texas to keep his campaign alive. he hopes to earn the evangelical vote. 155 delegates are up for grabs if

political analysis expects clinton to gain more delegates. we'll have a live report from washington dc in our next half hour. the family of the late supreme court antonin scalia are going to hold a memorial in washington dc. the court is a model of civility. other supreme court justices are expected to give remarks at the memorial service. scalia died last month in texas. president obama meantime is going to sit down with senate republicans at the white house today to talk about replacing scalia. the white house says the president intends to make a nomination. but is still reviewing recommendations from his legal team. republicans say they will not consider a nominee. they want it left to next president next year. people can get their hands on brand new colorado drivers license today. the dmv is showing off the new design. it features a more colorful background, but the driver's photo is in gray scale for

the license also has a laser engraving of the driver's information. it will be handed out at the littleton dmv, and the offices in frisco will do the same. those are the only places issuing the licenses for now. a man forced from his home from a $175 tax lien says the generosity of people -- he suffered from multiple sclerosis. he used that money to pay for medical bills. a viewer set up a go fund me page. it worked. people have donated more than $18,000. he's using that money for a new place in aurora. >> i couldn't believe it. it's incredible. so [indiscernible]. i live here safely. i don't have to worry about circumstances causing me having to leave. >> things are changing. he and

for the news you need when you need it, like us on facebook, twitter and cbsdenver.com. good morning, everyone. breaking news here out of aurora this morning . this fire happening in what appears to be a mobile home. copter 4 got to this scene that they made it before police arrived. we saw a police cruiser roll in and we suspect the firefighters are there. you can see them on the left side of your screen. they'll attack this fire and a moment ago we saw two people who seem to be maybe the owners of this home. they were looking at this fire in disbelief. the inside. the first firefighter is working a hose and get work onto this fire. and this mobile home burning pretty hard right now.

laying out the hoses. we don't know if someone is inside. from the gestures the two men were making, i don't think someone is inside. that's good news. they didn't seem to want to get in inside for a person. we're making a guess. >> the firefighters are moving quickly as soon as they got to the scene. lauren is here. what are firefighter grappling with? >> it's not wind y here in denver -- it's not windy in denver. gustier. winds is an issue in the high country today and into the foothills. 37 mile-per-hour gust in winder park. you'll notice it's gusty in our foothills and we'll see bigger winds. 30 mile-per-hour wind in estes park. and all the way down into georgetown. windy in our foothills and not as bad as yesterday. winds stay in the foothills.

windy here in denver. tomorrow, the winds will pick back up and we're going to get gusty from denver to the eastern plains and wind gust at 50 mile an hour. fire danger is high tomorrow. 30 in ray. 21 in akron. 37 in avon this morning. 3 #1 -- 31 in grange januaried. we-- grand junction. fairly clear. taking a look at our future cast, we'll have mostly sunny skies and light snow in our high country and not picking too much of that. an inch or two. here in denver, more clouds in the evening hours. skies clear, but tomorrow morning the winds pick back up and could pick up a couple of inches of snow. we're windy tomorrow.

low 60s on the eastern plains and our mountains, 40s today and 40s on the western slope. 65 tomorrow. fire danger high with the wind and mild through the rest of the week and into the weekend. let's check with joel. good morning. >> good morning, look at the taillights southbound coming into town. this is typical this time of day. it's a reminder of how many cars we have heading into down. speeds from the 40s and 30s. 12 minutes on the drive from 120th to i-70. take a look along us 36 and you travel along i-76. you can see it's nice and wide open. i-270, a different story. this cbs mouse trap cam, not a lot of space between the cars southbound along i-225. we're going to see traffic develop as you get around the stadium curve. lights malfunctioning and that's at sheraton and louisiana. treat that as a

it's on 13th not causing delays there. c 470, 285, 6th avenue, nice and wide open, but britt, they're loading up. >> thank you, and a moment ago we brought people breaking news. let's go back to that picture because copter 4 is over this fire. what appears to be a mobile home on fire. now that the sun is rising we can see it looks to be a bigger structure here in aurora at colfax and i-225. firefighters had just gotten to the scene. they're working this fire trying to douse the flames. this fire looks pretty aggressive. >> you saw what happened there when they opened that side door and the oxygen got to that fire back there. it shows you what firefighters goes through. it blew up there on the left side of your screen behind the graphic. it's tough to see with the graphic over it. there we go. we dropped the graphic so you can get a better look. the flames kicking outside of that mobile home. they're trying to

a mobile home like that contains that heat. all of that metal around there holds it in like an oven. you can see the flames and the smoke pouring out of this right now. >> the flames jetting out. the other thing we noticed from this picture is the smoke billowing out of this home. it's thick. it's dense. earlier this morning when we first brought you this live picture, we saw what appeared to be two men outside of the home likely maybe the owners of the home, and they seem to be not in any sort of hurry looking for anybody inside. we don't believe there's anybody trapped inside. this is a developing story. >> i'm wondering too britt, because as they seem to be looking at the back end of the trailer, i'm thinking maybe they think somebody -- we don't have that information right now. but as the fire blows up with that heat, you can see what firefighters have to deal with. the copter backs some distance. you get a little heat coming through the frame and blurring out the picture a little bit. this trailer is going to be a

let's take you back out to this fire live this morning. we're watching this fire at colfax and billing. it runs parallel with 225 right by colfax and 225. the firefighters seem to have this knocked down a little bit ago. a few minutes ago, we had flames. >> you tip your hats off to the

been working to get the flames the smoke billowing out of this structure. we understand that copter 4 was we don't know when this fire broke out. the details slowly coming in. it was dispatched after copter 4 was in the air. we saw two men outside gesturing toward it. we don't know if someone is inside. firefighters searching inside and having a good look at what's going on. they have got this knocked down with their water on that fire, but that trailer, a total loss this morning. we'll keep our eyes on this fire for you and we will work on getting any word on whether anybody was inside. >> it seems as though mother nature was on the firefighters side. lauren, you're talking about the winds being calmer. >> it's calmer and cooler. that's good for them. we have a

colfax and billing near 225 and now this -- they're indicating they don't believe they have anyone inside this trailer. we're working to verify that with aurora police. britt earlier, wow, was it going. >> let's go to video we shot, we captured a moment ago after 6:00. you can see how big the flames were. there were completely consuming this home. jetting out of the roof here. when firefighters opened the door, we saw a mini explosion where the fire burst through that door. we also saw two people who seem to be running out of the home, and we don't know if anybody is still inside, but again, that good news, at least coming off the scanner, authorities don't believe anyone is trapped inside. we will continue to follow it though. >> certainly will. the two men we saw standing outside watching the fire burn, but let's hope there's nobody in there. in fact, we're working to verify that. a live look at sunrise

denver area, we have one side street accident near colfax and 225. you have sheraton and louisiana where the lights are malfunctioning. you can see the slowing along i-225 and a lot of curiosity as the fire burns. super tuesday, the biggest day in the presidential campaign. voters in 13 states, primarily or caucuses including colorado. voters have less say in the choosing of the democratic and republican the preference poll was cancelled. we won't know who is getting in the caucuses, they won't have those showing hands saying i favor this candidate and favor this one. it comes after the national committee made preference polls binding, meaning delegates would have been required to vote at the

candidate who they voted for in the caucus. in the past, the delegates could change that. the democrats will poll tonight, but they won't award delegates. only members of the political parties are allowed to participate in the caucuses and there's a move of foot to return in the primaries ahead. trump was interrupted in virginia. a photographer tried to record them as they left the a secret service agent through the his name is christopher morris who later cursed at the agent before physical. we will have a light report on super tuesday from washington dc in just a few minutes, and we'll also have a look at how the candidates are doing in the latest polls. sports caster erin andrews is going to take the stand against a man who admitted to

that stems from a 2008 case where barrette secretly recorded nude videos of andrews. she testified yesterday about the moment she found out the videos were online. >> everybody put up that i was doing it for publicity and attention and that ripped me apart. >> that marriott is where barrette reported one of the videos through a peep hole. she's seeking $75 million. barrette spent 2 and a half years in a federal prison for recording the videos. a denver firefighter says she was harassed and driven from her job for being a woman. the city just paid big bucks to sell her complaint. tonight at 10:00, cbs 4 investigator brian maass looks into what happened. here's a preview. >> she had one dream growing up: >> it was her dream to be a firefighter. >> she was appalled at what she found in the fire house.

information about the dalai's visited will be announced in the coming months. we're going to give you a live look from copter 4 in this breaking news. we have a mobile home on fire since at least after 6:00 when copter 4 was there at the scene. this is happening at colfax near i-225 there. you can see firefighters moving more slowly here because they finally have the flames knocked down, but boy, i'll tell you when. when they got there, they were dousing those flames. this is what it looked like earlier. >> there's two men standing outside of the fire before the fire truck got there. they're trying to figure out if they can do anything about that fire. again, we're hearing from scanner traffic. they do not believe anyone was inside here. if you look at the gestures the men were making, it's one of someone being respondent over the fact there's a fire, but it

we're at 28 in denver. 32 in boulder this morning. 20s on the eastern plains and 20s in the high countries to start the day and 20s to the low 30s on the western slope. we have clouds out there and looking clear for the eastern plains and a mixture of sunshine and clouds. sunny to partly sunny skies. we have a chance of a little light snow in the high country today and mix in wind. maybe it's tough to see at times. across the front range, we have clouds later on tonight and overnight, skies do clear. tomorrow morning, it's breezy, but as we head into the afternoon, the winds ramp up. should die down by the evening hours and we may pick up snow in the high country tomorrow. a couple of quick inches of snow for us. temperatures, we're looking at 57 in denver. 59 in fort collins and greeley. 58 in burlington. the mountains, 40s. 45 in eagle and 59 in grand junction. winds really ramp up tomorrow like i said. with that becomes a chance of fire danger.

low humidity and gusty winds. this includes the foothills all the way to the eastern plains. tomorrow, we have to be careful outside. for your 5-day forecast. 65 tomorrow and 60s through the week. let's check with joel. >> we've been watching i-225 and 104th. we have seen it in all stages in the last quarter hour. you have traffic moving, but -- you see the brake lights turn into taillights. speeds in the teens and 20s. southbound coming into down, that's a 19 minute drive. look along i-76 and 270 in the eastbound direction, mouse trap cam, the cars bunching together and that's being reflected on the road sensor data as well. sheraton and louisiana, treat that as a four-way spot. i-225 from parking road is starting to load up.
