the death of a sheriffs deputy. the question whether they were properly prepared. could we get a break from the wind today? it was so strong yesterday it tore off the side of a truck in larimer county. we are standing by with the forecast. glan. we are going to have all of those stories coming up this morning. let's start with breaking news overnight. deal. >> they have been on the run jamie is life this morning with details. >> good morning. they took those three people the car chase ended near 20th

this was the outcome which ended around 11:00. police spotted the suspect, followed the vehicle and ended up doing a pit maneuver to ultimately bring it to a stop. an officer on scene confirmed they were connect today the craigslist shooting and all three were transported to the hospital. their conditions are currently unknown. early they are week lakewood police responded to find that a man had been shot. investigators say he and another man arrived at the scene to complete a craigslist transaction and say they were forced out of their vehicle by somebody else who then opened fire. a second person drove off in the victim's car. police tell us the craigslist ad was likely related to drugs. now all three were taken into custody. denver police have yet to tell us how exactly they are connected to this shooting. we are look into that. cbs4 morning news. >> thanks very much.

you can see a lot of headlights out there now on either direction along i-70. not enough to cause any slowing. almost green across the map. take a look into the high country. fighting the winds near georgetown and u.s. 6 over loveland pass. we have had adverse weather conditions. a shake up just a week after a man kill add deputy and wounded two others. it happened as they served an eviction notice on martin worth who lost his home to forclosure. deputies shot and killed worth after he shot carrigan. senior sergeant wells tongis

was retaliated his oversite and handling of the incident. the sheriff said this is something we have to address. tonges says he believed he was a scapegoat for what happened. was being demoted. the sheriff placed his under sheriff on leave. they say the suspension was also a result of a series of events of administrative actions that were done incorrectly. we have also not been able to reach the undersheriff for comment here. a faculty member accused of rape will face a judge today. she a drum instructor for

they say he took a former student home from a bar in january and sexually assaulted her. he is now on paid leave. the republican presidential candidates are facing off tonight. ben carson said he is not taking part and doesn't see quote a political path forward after super tuesday. he has not officially dropped out but there is a push to find a solution to the frustration. some voters tell us they are downright angry. we have their story. >> reporter: lines stretched for blocks as people waited for hours to vote in democratic caucuses. >> it is probably time to figure out whether or not we can do a system that has caucuses that go on as well as presidential primaries. >> reporter: colorado democrat

colorado republican party chair steve house are urging lawmakers to bring back primary. >> it might pass today with a high number because of challenges on both sides last night. >> reporter: if democrats and republicans are frustrated unaffiliated voters may be more so. they don't gate say, only registered party members can participate in caucuses. despied record turnout it represented just 14% of the party. >> 67% of new registrations were unaffiliated voters. it is our largest voter affiliation. we think their voice needs to be heard. >> reporter: head of the denver chamber of commerce, they got approval far ballot measure that would allow unaffiliated voters to participate including a presidential primary should lawmakers bring it back. >> one way or the other i think

it will be windy in some areas. 20 to 30 miles per hour gusts. it will be windy in some of our foothill high country areas today. significantly calmer than yesterday, maybe a little breezy at times. overall it will be pretty calm. enjoy it. i'm excited about getting outside today. right now winds are about 40 miles per hour and we are gusty along the passes. about 26 to 62 miles per hour winds. winds are a little bit calmer. it is 24 degrees colder this morning compare today denver. anything from 10 to 20 degrees difference from yesterday.

let's go to jill. she joins us this morning. what do we need to know before we leave the job, jill? >> too many departing workers are cashing out of their retirement plan assets and unnecessarily paying a tax early instead of rolling over the funds into another retirement account. investors who are younger than 59.5 had to pay a 10% early withdraw penalty. you cash out and you may have just 35,000 bucks left. of course retirement savers of any age will no longer enjoy that compounded road.

is it ever advisable to withdraw money to pay down debt? >> i think this is a classic question, right? you see a pile of money there but you also have debt. you should know the irs allows for hardship withdraws including medical expenses, costs relating to the purchase of a principal residence, not rental, tuition, burial expenses. there are tonsover workers over the age of 59.5. they are temping to use those retirement asset to pay down their mortgage. there is a risk in doing this. you are depleting your liquid assets. it is now liquid over 59.5.
